Today Olia had her second cheerleading competition. Her squad placed first again! She was so excited!! They are such a great squad; they never make a mistake; or at least any mistakes are not noticeable. Some cheerleading parents are crazy! They are just too competitive for my liking. Dan and I just want Olia to have fun at cheerleading. It is really nice that her squad won first place twice, but just being part of a team should be exciting for the girls. Some of the girls on other squads left in tears because their squad didn't place. I think Olia would just blow it off if they didn't win! Of course, there are always vendors at the events. Olia purchased a sweatshirt with a cheerleader painted on it with her name painted over the cheerleader, She wanted one that was really big. I guess most of the girls on the squad wear oversized sweatshirts. I don't really like the baggy look, but at least it will fit her for awhile.
Last night Olia went to her friend Erin's house. Erin has two older sisters and each girl had a friend over. Erin's mom said that Olia was the center of attention because the older girls thought it was really cool that Olia came from Ukraine. They asked her to say a lot of words in Russian, but Olia is now forgetting Russian again because she hasn't used it since our host child left in Aug.
We went foor shopping after the competition. The Walmart that we went to has a supermarket as well as a department store. Olia loves food shopping. I guess that is because she loves food! She wants a pair of warm boots to wear at school during the day. Olia seems to be so much colder this year than she was last year. This year she wears a sweater or sweatshirt over her clothes everyday. She always tells me that out house is cold. I tell her to put on a sweater because our heat is on 71 and we are not turning it up! She said that she was always cold at the orphanage.
Tonight Olia is sleeping at her friend Leah's house. Leah and her sister Amy are on Olia's cheerleading squad. They are both really nice girls.
Last night I was out to dinner with three good friends because we were celebrating one friend's birthday. They all love Olia. They asked me if Olia ever comments about how different her life is now than it would be in Ukraine. She doesn't talk about that. I think that kids just go with the flow. I don't think that they ever really think about the magnitude of the change in their lives.
