1.  I saw a blurb on some comedy show about this and it got me to thinking...I know this has got to be something all of us do, no matter what the age.  Remember when you were a kid and still believed that scary things could get you in the dark?  I do.  Now, some of us wouldn't admit it at this point in our lives ... but how many of us STILL have those moments? You go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and whether you hear a noise or not you quickly shuffle those last few steps either INTO the bathroom or back to your room?  Or perhaps you even have those moments where you quickly jump onto the bed so nothing will get your feet?!  Also, somehow, covering up completely makes us invisible and invincible to those monsters too!  Right.  Heh, I'm not afraid to admit ... I still do this.  Anybody else?

2.  How many weird quirks do you have when you're eating?  I eat very methodically.  I eat the thing I least like first, then the next thing, saving the best till last.  I do not mix and match, a bite of this here, a bite of this there if there is a definite difference in my liking for each item on the plate.  I even do this with soup!  Vegetables first.  Then I drink as much broth out as I can get.  Then the noodles (if any).  THEN the chunks of meat (if any).  I still separate my m&m's.  First into color categories, then into the number of each color.  The color with the most goes first, until I have just one of each left usually (unless it's the brown ones, but I don't know why) ... then I close my eyes and randomly select them one by one.  What eating quirks do YOU have?

3.  Hygiene patterns.  Most of us have them, but not all  I'm sure.  I pour my bath, get undressed, get my fresh clothes all arranged where and how I want them.  I put the folded bath towel onto the toilet seat.  I get in the tub.  I have a certain order that I wash in.  Then I get out, dry off and get dressed accordingly (yeah, not skilled enough yet to figure out how to put the pants on and THEN the underwear).  Then I brush my hair.  Then I brush my teeth.  I leave the bathroom and promptly clean out my ears.  My bathing and such is done with.  Do you have a hygiene pattern you follow pretty much to a T every time?

4.  For those of us book readers.  I cannot for the life of me live with myself if I have to stop reading mid sentence.  Hell, if at all possible I won't even stop mid paragraph!  I HAVE to finish the paragraph or else it just eats at me.  I could be on a red alert bathroom emergency and I will finish that half a page long paragraph first!  Also, I do not skip ahead to see what's going on, but I will thumb through to see how many pages are left of a chapter, or a story if it's a collection of short stories, or even to see just how long til the end of the book.  Any other reading, or hobby related, quirks you have that you just can't shake?

5.  The internet.  We're all here.  We all obviously use it.  Do you have an internet pattern?  I get online, check SC, check my Yahoo email, take care of my WW online, check my AIM/AOL/PeoplePC emails (all through Outlook) and then if I have any leisure or extra surfing I wish to do, that is always last.  It always screws me up when I don't do something in order.  I used to play Furry-Paws (virtual dog game, still do, just on a hiatus actually).  It messed me up for the first two weeks I went on hiatus from it because that was always the FIRST thing I did!  Now if I do something out of order I get all thrown out of whack and have to stop what I'm doing to go back and catch the previous step that I tried to skip.  It's almost compulsive!  Do you have an internet pattern?

Ok, this will take a minute because I have to go up and down to see what's next.
    1.  I'm not afraid for my feet, but I have to keep my wrists covered because they're so bony and veiny I'm afraid something will cut them and I'll bleed to death in my sleep.  How weird am I!

    2.  Scrolling up...oh, easy one...I smush all my food together into one big food.

    3.  Stumble into the bathroom in the dark (just a nightlight, I don't want to wake up yet), turn the shower on, get in (I don't wear anything to bed), sleep-wash (it's an art), get out, wrap towel around me, sit on edge of tub and drip dry.  Go downstairs, drink 4 cups of tea, wake up and do all that other stuff.

    4.  I don't read, I scan.  No patience anymore for pretty much anything.

    5.  No internet patterns.  I sit at the computer a lot only because this chair is so comfortable.  It's a big, leather swivel arm chair and a half and I can sit Indian-style in it.
  • Hegemone said on Dec 03, 2008....
Twy - Still, some very individual quirks, even if they aren't necessarily defined patterns.  Never knew anybody with wrist fears, but hey, not too weird, pretty valid if ya think about it.  I have some books like that ... I get too impatient for a chapter or whatever to end so I start "speed reading" (heh, I like to call it that, I'm really just scanning).  Also, I envy you and your comfy computer chair!  I have an old kitchen chair, lol.
  • Twylarants said on Dec 03, 2008....
I bought the chair in Goodwill for $35.  I have a footrest under the keyboard tray so I can put my feet up, and I'm right next to the tv so I can watch it while I'm typing.  Right now I'm watching a doo-wop show on PBS and swaying back and forth to "Angel Baby" by Rosie and the Originals.  Life is good at the moment...lol.
  • Hegemone said on Dec 03, 2008....
Lol grrr ... envy is growing ... need to get to Goodwill!  Lol.  I have a TV in the vicinity of my comp also, but the plug isn't long enough to reach the outlet and the darned extension plugs are all occupied!  So I can look at it all day, lol, but I don't get much entertainment out of watching a mirrored image of me in the room.  Maybe I should make funny faces sometime, perhaps THEN that would get that TV some better ratings, lol.

    1. oh yeah!!! i wont tell you guys what i saw but yeah!!!!! really scary!!!!

    2. i dont know if i have a quirk cuz i'm not really picky... well i dont really like vegetables... but i eat everytihng that has tomato sauce in it...lol... ;-)

    3. yup. i brush my teeth while in the shower... like i dont use the glass anymore. i'll just open my mouth and let the water fall.lol.. saves time for me... ;-)

    4. if i get bored with the book i read the last page... and i have the urge to read the last part if the book is really good but i stop myself...lol... and yeah i watch tv while surfing the net...

    5. well nowadays here's my pattern. if sweetheart is online i dont read anything else cuz it messes my pc whenever i video call and surf the net at the same time. but if he's not online i open some site at the same time. i just shuffle through the sites... i open my email, soulcast, perezhilton.com at the same time... ;-)

Queenie, that's interesting brushin' yer teeth while showering.  I never knew anybody who did that, but hey, it's not like you're gonna REALLY make a mess, you're already in the shower!  I know how ya feel computer wise, I have pick and choose my battles there.  If I run this program with this one that one won't work and if I run that program with this one then three others won't work, lol so I think that's part of why I've gotten so methodical about it.

    1. not so much scared of monsters, but I will scream like a sissie if a spider the size of a head of a pin crosses my path.

    2. I don't have an eating pattern, but I do compulsively line up the plate and silverware before I start eating.

    3. I do have a routine, but it's mostly so that I don't forget to do anything.  Wash, deodorant, teeth, brush and style hair and if it's called for make up.

    4.
  • Hegemone said on Dec 04, 2008....
Uni, heh the spider fear seems to be common.  I'd call it a pattern if ya gotta line up the plate and silverware before ya eat.  And I assume that since 4 and 5 are blank ya either don't have anything to say about 'em ... or is SC eatin' stuff again?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Dec 04, 2008....
Damn it!  No, of course I had thoughts ! LOL I guess SC in it's wisdom is making me repeat them.

    4.  I hate to leave a book less than finished reading the page, much less paragraph.  I've been known to abandon a book if I've had to abruptly stop reading.

    5. I only have my work computer now, but I do have a routine.  Coffee, mail, SC, fun sites, then work.
  • Hegemone said on Dec 04, 2008....
Lol Uni, I loved that, then work, lol.  Sometimes that how I feel when I come ... I need some time to continue waking up and getting caffeinated before I can REALLY do anything.
  • starchini said on Dec 04, 2008....

lol, hege your sooo cute!  : )  A little ocd, but cute!

    okiedokie, here she goes...

    1) Ive never been afraid of the dark.  When i was little I was told that saying the "our father" immediatly vanquishes anyharm.  So if i hear or think i see something, i dont run or get scared.  I quickly say:  "Our father who art in heaven hollowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespassers as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliever us from all evil"...some people say the "thine is the kingdom" and something about glory part but i wasnt ever taught that part.  My prayer ends with asking him to deliver me from evil.  : )  I supose the quirky part would be that i say it really super duper fast.  I gotta beat the scary thing to it before he gets me right?  I can say that prayer in....7 seconds flat : )  Im a big faith person and truly do not believe that anything can harm me so long as i ask God not to let it : )  Sorta like a holy bullett proof vest i wear.

    2) I use to be a very quirky eater, bc it was so special to me and i loved it.  But after i had my surgery and had to relearn how to eat.  A big part of what i learned is that food is meant for survival, NOT enjoyment.  Sure you can and should enjoy what you eat, im not promoting cardboard or anything.  But i try to remember that food has a purpose other than edulgment.  I dont have any quirks with eating and try hard to eat as little as possible.  Maybe thats my quirk, i have a love hate relationship with food.  I love the taste, and hate what it does to me (when i let it get outta control)

    3) hehe, you skipped the how you wash part.  That is where my hygiene quirks come in.  I keep toothpaste, a tooth brush, pantyhose and a wide tooth comb in the shower.  First off those arnt really staples in most peoples showers...First I shampoo, twice.  I do not wash the ends of my hair because it dries the ends out and causes breakage and when u rinse, the soap cleans it with gravity.  I shampoo my scalp twice.  Then i use entirely way too much conditioner and lather all the ends with it trying to avoid my scalp.  Then i take the comb and detangle while making sure to spread conditioner evenly throughout.  Then i take the ankle of the panty hose and use it as a hair tie to tie my hair up on top of my head.  This way while im doing the other stuff i dont accidentally rinse the conditioner of of my ends.  The pantyhose is very gentle and causes the least amount of breakage.  I let the conditioner stay in my hair until im almost ready to get out.  Then i get my loofa and my body wash and scrub my body from top to bottome.  Saving the privates for last of course.  Then i brush my teeth and wash my face and THEN i rinse the conditioner out : )...

    4) as far as books...i must read by chapters.  Not so much a quirk, but i cant stand to fold pages and i cant remember what page im on and its always easiest to think "chapter 13" and just open up to it.  If there are no chapters i cant stop in the middle of a page.  The sentence must START at the top of the page and its sometimes really hard to find a page that ends with a period.

    5) the only internet quirk i have is sneakiness : ) lol, im always watching out for my boss and always need a back up page that makes it look like im working : )

Lol Star, yeah I've definitely seen a lot of ocd tendencies in myself, but strangely, I'm not diagnosed.  But anyhoo, that's a neat way to keep the "boogymen" away.  Kinda neat having an invisible holy bullet proof vest.  Eating wise, I SO  know what you mean.  I've had to re-learn how to eat since I joined weight watchers.  I now know that there are SO many different things out there that while they don't look like much, they will fill me for longer, and amazingly, they taste good too!!  Lol, I've been eating things lately that I USED to think would taste like cardboard but boy was I ever wrong!   Now I would say that is definitely an interesting hygiene quirk.  I've NEVER heard of anybody going to those extents on their hair, but hey, to each their own and I'm willing to bet you've got a beautiful head of hair on you also!  I'd read forever if I read by the chapters, because even if I end a chapter I usually can't just stop so I peek at the beginning of the next and then before I know it I'm halfway through.  Internet wise .... oh oh oh I do that too!  Lol, I always have two tabs up on my internet when I'm at work.  One is my company's website and the other is whatever I'm doing.

well here goes...........1. to be really honest i dnt get scared in the dark at all its the silence i cant stand i have to listen to the tv to get me to sleep,
2,my food has to be boiling hot and covered in pepper, i cant eat cool or cold food, so i go to the microwave a few times while eating my dinner
3,i like a shower before bed and i have to wash my hair or i dnt feel ryt at all no matter wot time it is i always have a shower b4 bed...
4.iv got to say i read magazines back to front, i start at the back and read towards the beginn, wen it comes to books, well im not a book fan but if i do get 1 i tend to skip pages to the good bits or i end up reading the same line 2/3 times thru bordem
    5, i always check sc 1st then read,write.comment,
    not very exciting i know........good fun tho......xx
  • Hegemone said on Dec 04, 2008....
Lionesss, I'm the same way, but yet listening to a loud fan or something like that drives me bonkers!  My husband and I are polar opposites with food, he can eat cold stuff, or not thoroughly cooked, while I spit the stuff out.  I think it comes from the fact that as he was growing up he didn't have a choice, it was either eat it or go hungry, as his mom did a LOT of microwave cooking, resulting in food still frozen in the middle but she never checked before serving.  If the kids brought it up, she got all emotional and took it as an insult instead of just getting up and reheating the food.  I am never awake enough to take a shower in the mornin' either, plus they relax me so they don't help me wake up and I can ALWAYS tell if I skip washing my hair.  That's interesting about the way you read a magazine, the magazines I read anyway, always seem to leave the best parts till last, so I like saving it.  Nothing wrong with your internet pattern, whatever is entertaining is the important part!

nothing in the dark will ever touch your life outside of fear
  • Hegemone said on Dec 05, 2008....
Yeah but sometimes it's still fun to be scared because you know nothing will really get you.  Then you can laugh about it later.

I like the way u worded that Ouija...very true too.
