The page you were looking for no longer exists

They tried to blast it out of existence.. make it fall.. defeat it.. but they couldn't.

The Tah hotel stands!! Majestic as ever on Mumbai's waterfront!! The final count of hand grenades that were exploded in it was something like 50. It was constantly on fire as the attackers tried to create diversions. But almost four days of fire, firings and blasts later, the Taj stands!!

So do the Trident and Oberoi hotels and the Nariman House which were the other major places under attack for almost 62 hours.

The police found boxes and boxes of RDX and LOADS of other explosives suggesting that the terror plan was much worse than what actually transpired. The one terrorist that was taken in alive also said that the plan was to blow up Taj. It didn't happen though.

They underestimated it.. and they've underestimated us.

Sure there are wounds.. internal damages.. but nothing permanent.

We'll build up the interiors again.. fix our hurting parts.. and we'll be stronger than we ever were.

The facade of Taj is unshaken.. almost perfect.. even more beautiful in its surviving glory.. and so are we.

The General Manager of Taj lost his wife and children in the attack.. but he and the entire staff were extremely proffessional and brave and saved hundreds of peple by evacuating them.. they executed their drills to perfection and  messaged the guests that had gone out to stay out and not return to the hotel. They stayed until they were forcibly removed by the cops or killed in some cases. Ironically though, the brave GM lost his own family.

What is he doing today though? Working. He refused taking the day off.. said he was shattered at the loss of his family.. but he must work.

If he can work, so can we.

We are standing tall, proud and beautiful. Just like the Taj. Bruised, yes.. but not broken in the least!!

This is where true strength shows up. I am so sorry that these events transpired, dia...but I do know that with hearts like yours, people are going to heal and rebuild and overcome. You are strong and capable.

    They lost.

My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, been injured, or are just plain struggling to grasp what has happened.

Before I went out last night the news was stating they'd got them all.  I think India will now be far more mature in its protection of its citizens and I'm glad for that but sad that it took such a concerted and dangerous situation.

Because foriegners were killed India will now have the expertice of many countries to search the trails of where they came from, shame it all leads to Pakistan huh?

Diabolic.....I believe that when a fucking horrible thing like this happens, no matter in which country happens, people find always the courage and the strength to stand up to defend their rights.

The rights of having a life without the fear of being blown up without a pretty card of notice in the middle of their everyday life.
The reasons of this terroristic attack are ironically not important....
Whatever mastermind planned and plotted it, it blew up against them. Pakistan should simply bury its head under the sand...

What matters is that  your people, Diabolic, demonstrated a very high level of courage and pride......and the Taj will stand.

As well as other places that have been the target of other attacks ....all over the world....India is only one of the many targets, unfortunately....

The people at the end can win if they stay united and proud.

ddame, my initial reaction to the mumbai carnage is contained in a comment i posted at weird_world's latest blog earlier today. i'm writing a longer blog about mumbai, but not sure yet whether i have time and confidence enough to post it.

thank you for keeping us updated from a personal, on-the-ground perspective.

infernal: As the death toll continues to mount with the counting of the bodies.. my thoughts and prayers are also with people who have lost a loved one in this unfortunate way. A lot of people around here are beginning to talk about losing faith.. and that why I wrote this post.. and I'm telling as many people as I can find.. thank in this moment.. in this time.. we must keep faith.. and believe that we can make a difference. Thank you.

Lucy: I certainly hope India can be more mature in protecting itself against acts like this. But the worst thing is no one expected this! Other intelligence and federal experts from the world are coming over to help peice this together.. because foreigners were targetted.. but also because this is a first of its kind terrorist attack anywhere in the world in its complexity, scope, planning and sheer audacity.

I was watching CNN and they said that the scariest thing is tha this could be a harbinger of things to come elsewhere.. and we must protect ourselever against it.. by we I mean the whole world.. I hope everyone takes something out of this to learn and that we are all much better prepared next time.

ginger: I agree.. its a universal thing.. in times like this people rise, show strength and courage. It brings out the best (and the worst) in people.. thankfully we have a lot of people around. The reasons for such acts, as you said, are never important. Such acts themselves defeat the reasons. Proud and united.. thats the key! Thank you.

moonriver: Thank you.. I read wierd world's blog and commented there too. The more I read other people's thoughts, the more I am able to figure out my emotions about this. Right now I'm kind of a mess emotionally.. just when I think I am over it and am ok.. it strikes me again and I'm filled with sadness.. fear.. anger. It could've been me. It wasn't me though but it was hundreds of other people and its just sad.

queen: Thank you queen.. we are all built that way.. no matter which country.. we fall down and stand up stronger again!! Tall and proud!!    :-)

diabolicdame: Its good to be able to finally exhale that they got the terrorrists. And that Taj standing signifys a lot more, people trying to wipe out the history of India because that building is so monumental, yet with all their preparations, they failed miserably.

I shudder to think as you said CNN commented this could just be a tip of the iceberg. These attacks, whereas there are not entirely new, seems to become more sophisticated and complex with each attack. Even if governments all over the world are prepared, these terrorrists always seem to find loopholes to attack where people least expect it.

We can only hope in the goodness of all world citizens, hope that some of the terrorrists would develop a conscious and "blow the whistle" on their ring leaders.

One thing as can be seen from these attacks is for sure, these terrorrist cannot, and will not break the huma spirit. If anything their attacks help to unite people. Its just sad that sometimes people quickly forget that if we remain united, we can weather any storm. At the end of the day though, we all learn that we are and should always be "our brothers' keepers."
  • diabolicdame said on Nov 30, 2008....
cntlvmenuf, I don't know whether it will be the terrorist's own conscious or somehting else, but something definitely has to happen to reign this in. Its midless, irrational killing and I hope the world can find a way to get rid of it. Thank you.
  • sadsack said on Dec 06, 2008....
Yes, dd, though we are battered and bruised we are not down.  In fact we are more united than ever before.

Along with the sorrow and anguish the terror attacks have also been the cause of so many stories of courage , generosity and  selflessness.

The latest is Ratan Tata's setting up a trust to take care of those injured by the terrorists, not just at his own hotel, the Taj, but also all those who were injured at all the other locations. At a time when he has suffered so much, both emotionally as well as financially he has shown what a great man he is by this gesture.

I read about that too sadsack.. just the kind of thing that inspired me to write this post!!
