Armour

There are a few general rules for level 1-40:
For the first 40 levels you will only need defence stones in your armour; the more the better.
If you have the money use level 3 defence stones.
Remember the more slots the better an armour is because it means you can add more stones.
The rating for armour will determine how many times you can reinforce the armour for example AA armour can reinforce 10 times with a relatively low failure rate. A armour is around 8
If you have the money buy Unique armour because you can reinforce it more.
Do not sell reinforcement potions unless you are seriously running out of money
All greaves/pants should have physical resistance 2 stones or skill block level 2 stones

There are a few general rules for level 44 to 60+:
Do not use defence stones, instead use physical resistance
At level 44 use level 2 Skill Block and physical resistance stones
At level 52 may use level 3 Skill Block and physical resistance stones if possible
At level 60 use level 3 Skill Block and physical resistance stones
All greaves/pants should have physical resistance level 3 stones or skill block level 3 stones if above level 60
Main chest armour should use stamina stone level 3, physical resistance stone level 3

My strategy was to only buy unique armour and skip second set.
So buy level 15 unique skip level 26…Buy level 35 and skip level 44.

This strategy saves a lot of money, but not all players are capable of doing this. Therefore if you are finding it hard to grind do not skip armour sets. By the time you reach 52, it is not possible to skip armour sets, because extra protection helps when grinding.

Rings and Necklaces
A Mage needs intelligence/knowledge as a stat for ring. This will increase overall damage
Stamina stats will help with more health when grinding.
The necklace if possible, must be a level 8+ stat necklace. If you cannot find a higher level one, then just use the old one. All it means is less elemental resistance, which is not really needed until PvP or hunting elemental bosses
The ring of transcendence is not bad for low levels as long as it gives 8+ or 7+ stats, but at higher levels the ring is useless and does not maximise damage for Mage.

One thing to notice between the comparison of transcendence ring and a knowledge ring is that past level 40 approximately, the intellect/knowledge as a stat increase is greater than simply 8+, which is the highest I have seen a transcendence ring.

Main Weapon – Staff

The mage will use a wand to start off and at level 22, start using a staff to maximise damage. The wand is used at earlier levels because you will be using normal attacks often, due to a lack of AoE spells. Wands have a fast attack rate, whilst a staff is medium. It is not hard to see why wand is a better choice at early levels.

Basically the more slots the better and the more elemental attack the better. I suggest looking for weapons with slots 5+. Anything lower is not really worth getting.

Do not mix elements, always have elemental stones based on your most powerful elemental spell. eg Whirlpool at level 40, use a level 38 Arcane staff, filled with level 3 or 4 water stones.

Horse & Lance

Buy the horse at level 35. There is no need to buy any of the other horses except for the last one at level 61. If you want to buy it is fine, but depending on how the owners of Inflame Castle set the tax, it maybe very expensive or pretty cheap. But it is most likely to be expensive. Therefore, no real need to buy horses or lances that much other than the level 35 one and the last one at 61.

Potions

If you are finding it difficult to grind try using the potion next level up it should make it alot easier. You can buy it or grind it. I prefer to grind it gives money as well.

It is best that you are grinding at a rate where the replacement of pots is faster than the use. This can be done by playing around with the autopot level or whether you are grinding low level mobs or not. At higher levels of course this is not the case.

Quickness pots increases the distance between the enemy and you. Attack pots are quite self explanatory increase attack speed etc.

Should I Use a Wand?

There is only one player I have met so far that is a Mage and still uses a wand to play at level 6X. His name is 'Sober,' on the same server Gaiahon as I am.

The benefits of this is that not many players use wand to play Mage, therefore his equipment is alot more cheaper than my one. Anyhow beside this one day, Sober lent me his wand.

I was rather impressed by this wand which had better stats than my staff. So I went out bought a wand and tried this myself. 6 slot wand vs my 6 slot staff. What I found was that the wand did about 100-200 less damage than the staff, but this could also be affected, by the different stats of the two weapons as well. The cast time was not faster.

With some testing if you had the CC credits to buy reset orbs, switching between Staff and wand is a good choice in playing this game. Since wands are more abundant in AH its not hard to find a 8 slot wand, which is better and easier to find than a 5-6slot staff. However, if the staff has 7 slots or more, then it is definitely better than the wand.

 

Therefore if you had the patience and money wand is actually not a bad option.
