you guys are probably wondering about the title of this post...

it's a song from destiny's child. entitled cater 2 you.

here's the song...

but this song has nothing to do with this post. but the title of the song fits it perfectly...

you see yesterday my mother has a catering job. and since i'm jobless right now  i decided to help... with pay of course... lol..

it was really tiring. i helped in buying the ingredients. and mind you we bought it in a wet market.. wet markets here in the philippines are really something... let's just say that i almost fainted from the smell... and i was carrying a lot of heavey stuff!!!

that was saturday. and in the evening i helped in preparing the stuff were gonna used and i made the buko pandan salad.

the next morning. i woke up early to help around the kitchen like peeling and slicing stuff, washing the plates, glasses, utensils that gonna be used. and in the event i was the waitress/server/busboy!!!!

ohmygod i was so tired!!!

but you know what? i find it a fulfilling job. i would rather do this than sit in the office.

my mother then told me that i should stop my job search cuz honestly it's going no where... all those damn interviews and exams and i'm still jobless!!!

she told me if i helped her in the catering business she'll pay me. she'll make me her manager or something... since she's the financer...

in short i'll do all the dirty work... lol...

but it's okay though. it's almost december and we have so many things line up for us.

because so many people nowadays would want their christmas parties catered!!!

and yesterday was a blast!!!

everybody love the food!!! some people even asked for our calling card!!! (note to myself make calling cards!!!)

and i'm planning to make a website or something...

maybe make an account in any networking site. since here in the philippines so many business can boom when joining a networking site like multiply, friendster or myspace.

what makes our food different from others is that our cook make some usual homemade filipino dishes and put a little twist on it.

everybody loves it!!!

well i'm gonna be serious about this. it's better doing this than sit around and wait for a job...

at least i'm doing something.

i know i'ts gonna be slow first and i may not earn a lot. but if we get popular then i would probably earn more than my last previous job.

so what do you guys think??? lol...

i have so many ideas for this. like maybe i could start learning how to bake to make desserts...

well i have time for that...

this is a good start for me since i want to have a career in the culinary world... ;-)

although my only problem is dealing with mother. she stresses me out sometimes...

oh well... lets just wait and see... ;-)

keep on blogging!!!

p.s.

to all filipinos living in the philippines, if you guys live in the manila and quezon city area and in need of some catering, we do weddings, birthdays, parties, baptism, etc... please pm me!!!

If you want to work with food as your career, then I think this is a really great start to that. Because this will give you some experience in the field. And most parties need desserts right? So you could start practicing your pastry chef skills right now. I think it's a great idea!

Queenie- GREAT FOR YOU!  This is going to be such a rewarding opportunity for you.  I'm sure you'll be great at it, and yeah, even if business is slow at first ... use that spare time to advertise, advertise, advertise.  Myspace, Friendster, business cards, brochures, etc.  Anybody can do anything with these things.  I've been doing it for a while, even before I got the job that required me to do it and provided me with the proper programs to do it with.  Another thing, for instance, on personal emails you may exchange to anybody, forwards especially, include the name of the catering company and its contact info.  Then it'll be even more likely somebody might catch 'Such and Such Catering' and go 'Oh hey, I need this catered, I'll call them!'  Any little bit helps ... then, before you know it, you'll be too busy to worry about all that on your own ... and you'll need to hire somebody else ... and so forth, you see how it works.  It will take time and perserverance though, so don't get impatient, it is SO worth it, it's what you want to do in life, more or less, so grab it, don't let it go and make the best of it!

So far as your worry over working with your mother ... is there anyway to sit her down and establish with her that when you two are working you would like to be treated as an employee, not 'daughter employee' and then when you are not working, you can be seen as the 'daughter' role again, so as not to get the two completely skewed?  Seeing as how you're her daughter, I can see how she'll probably have higher expectations of you, which although it may hurt at first, she's just crampacking all kinds of learning into it too if you can look at the bright side, if you can't find a mutual agreement anyway.  Good luck and I can't wait to hear what else will happen in the future!

    good luck hun!
i wish you the best! and hope you grow!
you guys need to  get in touch with food sellers to help your prices!
and make sure to price out everything per person!
also have it to were if they say cook for 50 and then change it to 30. you need to say that say x amount of days before you must be told of the number changes!
i have done to many groups that want to change the price that moment,. i say no and send all left overs with them...
also you need to make sure the person you are working with knows these key points for you.
allgeries, diet nonos, if they eat no meat...
cause it sucks when someone comes up and says i cant eat that..... cause they will find a way to blame you!
if you and you mom are also doing the serving then you need to add a tip into your priceing....
unless you no they are good tippers lol!
if you need any ideas or tips look me up.
worked restraunt for 13 years... and i have done every job..
and if you want any recipes i no simple easy ones!
    good luck!!!!!!!!

Queenie.......i think you are on the right path. At least give it a serious try. I would love to have a business like this.....years ago my Italian friend and I were actually thinking about starting a catering service of Italian meals here in Dallas.

We were also talking about going to cook directly in our potential customer's kitchen showing how to prepare Italian stuff. We were pretty serious about it but then life threw us unexpected and hard balls...both us of got divorced and our lives took different directions...

I say.....go ahead and show what you can do!...:-)

Good for you Queen....before you know it you'll have your restaurant also and that will go hand in hand with the catering.  Then you need to get a signature dish that will identify your restaurant and make it stand out from the rest...then your only limit will be your imagination.

I'm happy for you girl...I know that you'll be good at that.

Wow.....sounds like you've gone full circle ya know...looking for a job when your calling was right there at home! When we labor at what we love the satisfaction beats the tiredness any day. And that excitment and love for what we do because we are good at what we do keeps us going even when our weary bodies want out. This could be your opportunity to start making pastry delicasies and throwing them in as free samples for your customers and pretty soon you'd be getting closer and closer to your dream career until you wake up one day and shock the hell out of you when you realize you are living your dream!

I'm so excited for you over here I can hardly contain myself.
  • queenparanoia said on Nov 28, 2008....

queen:  This is perfect!  And while you're catering and making desserts, you can experiment and come up with your own recipes, and that bakery business will be just around the corner!  I didn't know your Mom had a catering business.  Consider this on-the-job training for your dream-come-true!  Yippee!
  • queenparanoia said on Nov 28, 2008....
