Redeploy Iraq troops home and to Afghanistan and re-equip, looking for orderly withdrawal from there too.

I think Osama is dead.  He would have released a tape to help McCain win if he had been alive.

Keep troops handy to bolster local Afghan authorities upon request in order to put down any would-be governing body sympathetic to murderous Muslims.  (as opposed to the far more common peaceful variety.)

Avoiding spending money on pointless destruction is a good start towards repairing both our economy and our world standing.

I have little hope that Obama will be any good. He's not going to stop the thieving "bailout" that gives an obscene amount of money to wealthy bankers without helping homeowners in trouble at all. He's not going to stand up to the filthy international pharmaceutical industry that keeps prescription drug prices so damn high, inflating our health care costs to the point that we can barely afford to have health insurance, making windfall profits far beyond recovering their R and D costs. He talks a good game but that's about it. He's more of the same. He's not Dennis Kucinich. He's a run of the mill politician and the only thing good about him is that he won't be as bad as Bush. What's the first thing he should do? Stop the filthy thieving bailout, get the money back that has already been given, and help out the homeowners themselves by offering them a better deal, lower interest, lower principal remaining, and break the back of the international pharmaceutical industry's power in America, forcing them to lower the prices or be prosecuted once again for illegal price fixing, which they have pled guilty to in the past, paying nearly a billion dollars in fines and passing them on to the consumers. This time, put the bastard felons in jail, no fines, and forces the prices down.

Seems to me that forcing the pharmas to do anything suggested will simply encourage them to move to more lucrative markets. So many big pharma corporations are global entities and can very likely find more profitable venues than the U.S. If you want to import your drugs from India or China, please do go ahead and prosecute them.

The first thing Obama should do after being sworn in is light a cigarette on camera. He is reportedly a smoker, but I've never seen a pic of him with a cigarette. I don't want him or any other holier than thou liberal hypocrites lecturing us about how tobacco is bad for health and all that guff while their messiah lights up in the back room of the White House.
  • kelly said on Nov 22, 2008....
As far as smoking goes, smokers can go to hell until they learn how to keep all the smoke to themselves.  It is nothing less than a physical assault on everyone around them.  A single smoker can foul the airspace around him for half a block.

I really don't care if smoking is bad for YOUR health.  Have at it.  But I care if it's bad for my health and I care that the stench is revolting.

AH Curm I don't know what pictures you've got to look at but I found out he smokes when I saw it in a picture for myself.

O do the same that Bush did. Immediately repeal the tax laws that Idiot Bush out into place when Clinton left and he took over. Then get our Husbands, wives, sons and daughters HOME! Let the chips fall where they may in Iraq as they are fighting around us and through us. You gotta take the training wheels off sometime. When is enough enough. Make them spend their own surpluses up.

Then i would go after Osama who is starving in a cave somewhere in Pakistan. I truly beleive Bush knows where he's at or that the government has an idea at least. This would be the greatest of embarressments to the last of the fake ass Bush Legacy.

I would then call on WallStreet to give Ceasar it's due as they are the ones who caused this Mortgage crisis with their greed and we are bailing them out and not the homeowners. Go fucking figure? I would use whatevers paid back to fix the market and save the homeowners. As for the Big 3. Let them sink or swim. How do you show up to Congress and plead poverty riding in a Luxury jet? Brainless huh. I say sell the jets and you have a couple of million right there to infuse capitol into your companies. But of course the Big boys won't part with thier perks and toys as they have apperances to keep up with.

Seems like everyones got a hand out these days. I'd have them lay bare their books(Financial records) for all the world to see and see how fast they recoil and suddenly don't need the funds. When we did that here in N.Y. we found the MTA had kept a second set of books and actually had a surplus.

Either way his 1st 100days will be BUSY!

the movie about Tehran is something that people are shocked about, no less, but all the boogie-men are paper cut outs. Iranians are really a very old and civilized people, they are in defense mode...not offense - the US is the terrorist in this scuffle

The bailout is simply a further monopolization of power...we better hope Obama is really a populist, because the American pop has been set up for a fall after losing Habaeous Corpus and getting railroaded with the Patriot Act

If internal terror cells were really an issue in the US, do you think Ashcroft would have wasted time and money on Tommy Chong? No this is a cultural war after all and Bin Laden was the boogie man that helped the sheople give up the Bill of Rights!!! fuck and double fucked!!! I said ba aaa a

I placed the Iran thing to point out that Bush is a fraud.

Iran hates and distrusts the united states for a good reason. Our CIA and President Eisenhower, along with the British MI6, were responsible for the coup that led to ouster of their very popular prime minister Mohammed Mossadeq.

Operation Ajax - Iran and the CIA coup.

American CIA and British MI6 draw up Operation Ajax. A secret plan to overthrow the democratically elected Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadeq in order to secure their oil interests and contain Soviet influence.

I wish more Americans knew some history

of course they would have to learn it outside of the US education system if they want to get some truth

what we have been doing to Cuba and Iran in the name of democracy and freedom is evil

we overthrew a democratically elected Vietnamese government and then attempted to put in a deposed kings son, this sparked off the whole Vietnam problem...Americans just do not know this

in fact Phillipino's don't know that our military under general Smith killed millions of Phillipino's in gruesome manners and then gave a ticker tape parade to this general as the soldiers that tried to tell of what was happening in the Phillipines got thrown into Leavenworth prison for treason!

this memory no longer exists for Phillipino's, and it was only 100 years ago that this occurred. I tell my phillipino neighbors about this here in Hawaii all the time and they just go blank...they never heard of such a thing!

it is comforting to know there are people like you shelter that investigate history

    thanks

if you are reading this thread and have not seen the movies about Iran describing the tactics of the CIA, please do. As an American I must beg other Americans to stop buying into the persistent cover-up by our government about its un-American actions around the world.

The non-violent peace activists have been dealing with hired thugs who wear bandana's and show up at major peace rallies for decades...these people are never a part of the grassroots folks that are staging the rally and never speak to those who are not wearing bandana's - they are hired by people like dick cheney etc...to give the enforcement people a way to begin bashing heads and arresting American activists - accusing the peaceful objectors of being violent. In this way an entire class of patriotic Americans have been marginalized and scapegoated as a way of covering up the un-American activities of our gov

i beg you not to go glassy-eyed over this information and to tell others about this...we cannot afford to allow these types of things to be done in our name ever again. and bc of the net, we do not have to lay down and let apathy still our voice.

    just a thought

shelter, you are invaluable to this and i wish to give you some deep appreciation for exposing the truth in such an effective way! I hear you :]

when reality gets too real, they go to the doctor and get some meds for the head and begin compromising their organs, to the point they can no longer deny they are now sick and anxious. vicious cycle....then they put their kids on the meds while filling them with coca cola and beef that is pumped full of steroids and antibiotics...

I agree with your take on the Obama press releases

I have been interacting with two of their transition teams

john podesta and the economic recovery team

and Heather (can't remember her last name) who heads the energy transition team. this admin isn't even in office and they are soliciting our suggestions aggressively...this is different from the cabal that called itself the bush admin.

It's exciting to be included in the solutions...most Americans are passionate about helping in some way, i do believe this admin will give them avenues. especially the youth.

I have been promoting my watershed reclamation program that is being adopted here on my island...it is a remote stewardship program that gives college scholarships to the voluteers. This fits perfectly with Obama's plan to volunteer our youth in exchange for college so I am getting them aware of this prior to setting up their program. how wonderful, how very American of our president.

    Big Bailouts, Bigger Bucks

By Barry Ritholtz - November 25th, 2008, The Big Picture Blog

Whenever I discussed the current bailout situation with people, I find they have a hard time comprehending the actual numbers involved. That became a problem while doing the research for the Bailout Nation book. I needed some way to put this into proper historical perspective.

If we add in the Citi bailout, the total cost now exceeds $4.6165 trillion dollars. People have a hard time conceptualizing very large numbers, so let’s give this some context. The current Credit Crisis bailout is now the largest outlay In American history.

Jim Bianco of Bianco Research crunched the inflation adjusted numbers. The bailout has cost more than all of these big budget government expenditures – combined:

Marshall Plan: Cost: $12.7 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $115.3 billion
Louisiana Purchase: Cost: $15 million, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $217 billion
Race to the Moon: Cost: $36.4 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $237 billion
S&L Crisis: Cost: $153 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $256 billion
Korean War: Cost: $54 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $454 billion
The New Deal: Cost: $32 billion (Est), Inflation Adjusted Cost: $500 billion (Est)
Invasion of Iraq: Cost: $551b, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $597 billion
Vietnam War: Cost: $111 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $698 billion
NASA: Cost: $416.7 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $851.2 billion

    TOTAL: $3.92 trillion

    From Democracy Now.

Naomi Klein, Robert Kuttner and Michael Hudson Dissect Obama’s New Economic Team & Stimulus Plan (video).

On Monday Obama named New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy Geithner to the post of the Treasury Secretary. Former Treasury Secretary under Clinton Lawrence Summers was named the Director of the National Economic Council in the White House. Obama also called for a stimulus plan that will “give a jolt to the economy.” We host a roundtable discussion about Obama’s latest economic moves.

These unadulterated capitalist ideas are no better than any ism - whether we are talking politics or religion.
