I haven't written anything in a week or so.  I lead a fairly quiet life, no big excitement to report.  But I wanted to say hi to my friends.

I had another cooking accident yesterday.  I swear I am such a klutz.  I was trying to drain hot bacon grease out of a skillet, and the pan handle slipped, splashing hot grease all over the back of my right hand.  I said a few pithy words and got my hand under running cold water, all the while watching grease drip all over the floor.

mrM took very good care of me.  He made a big bowl of ice water and made me put my hand in it.  I wasn't real keen on doing that because the cold in addition to the burn felt awful.  But it is really is a smart thing to do.  He even cleaned up the greasy mess on the floor.  Y'know, he sometimes gets on the last filament of my last nerve, but he does watch over me, even when I don't want him to.  There's something to be said for that.

So the back of my hand looks like it has a really bad sunburn, but no blisters thank heaven.  I told mrM I should file for workman's comp.

That's my big excitement for the past 24 hours.  What's happening with you all?

I am so glad that your hand didn't blister.  Good thinking, putting it into ice water.  I have been busy sewing here of late.  I just finished a comforter for our bed, and it is really 'comfy'.  It is made of red velour, and pj really likes it.

    Thanks for sharing!  Luv ya!....dee.

Hi ya meems! ouch! I am glad you got your hand in the ice water as it is a good thing to do as it stops the grease from burning in the skin deeper.  What a good guy MrM was to come to your rescue! awe!!

Oye Mimi, hot bacon grease. Everytime I cook a mess of bacon camping I burn my hands and splatter my glasses with the grease. That's some hot hot stuff..

Hope you feel better soon Mimi.

i'm sorry! i know how much it hurts just getting splattered by the little "pops" that come off the bacon when i'm frying it ... i can't imagine spilling a whole pan of it :(  i did laugh at the workman's comp. comment .... tee hee! hope it didn't effect your blogging hand :)

What a nasty accident triple M!  I'm glad you didn't blister up, and Mr.M is right about the cold water right away.

You know what I'm up to! ;)

Hi, Dee!  A red velour comforter sounds very decadent. ;)

quilty, it's good to do but it is sooooooo  uncomfortable.

mobil, I was sure I had really done it up right, but this morning it's only a little red, like a sunburn.  The splatters get my glasses too.

fraggie, I still think I should be compensated for my pain and suffering.  ;)  Chocolate ought to do it.

Infernal, hey it's good to see you, you little mama-to-be!  Burns do hurt like crazy, even little ones.

uni,  I've burned myself while cooking, more times than I can count.  Yes, I do know what you're up to...  quite an adventure!

mimi - this got me thinking about a story....i once knew a naked man.  he never wore clothes while at home...EVER...he kept his furniture covered with sheets so as not to ruin them with skid marks.  (i did not know this man well)  but it got me thinking......what the hell did he do when he fried up bacon?????
  • MissMimi said on Nov 20, 2008....
Ew.  There're a lot of cooking hazards for a naked man.  LOL  Maybe he was a vegetarian.  ;)

So glad you found a good use for Mr. M. ;) You are one lucky woman that your hand isn't much worse Mimi.

What have I been up to? Well I'm off this week supposedly to pack all my stuff for my upcoming move but I seem to be spending most of my time doing stuff for my new place. Had the painter over to look and give me a quote. Had the blinds guy to do the same.Took my Turkish rugs over and laid them down to help pick paint colours for all of the rooms - to get rid of that builder's white. Laid masking tape on the floor to check out the lay out for my furniture.

Did shopping for lights to replace the ones that came with the place. Found what I wanted but they didn't have it in stock so made a few trips to the electrical supplier. Thought the electrician was coming yesterday just to look at the place and give some comments but no - they installed my lights and moved a few thermostats (why oh why do they put them in the middle of the few walls I have??? Don't they know I have pictures to hang?) Luckily the moving guy's car broke down yesterday (well lucky for me, not him) so he had to reschedule for tomorrow and I could stay with the electricians.

I've been looking for a small chandelier for a dressing room between my bedroom and ensuite bath. Was planning a trip an hour east of here today since my friend saw some that I might like...but instead, this morning on the way to her exercise class, she noticed a gorgeous old chandelier (with real crystals) in the garbage! She got a friend of hers to help her with it...went to exercise class...so this afternoon we took it over to my new place to see if it would work. Yup! :D Needs to be rewired and cleaned up a bit but it will look gorgeous. oh took a car load of my good dishes over to my new place with the chandelier too.

Waiting for my apple crisp to finish...then back to packing.

  • sweetsoul said on Nov 20, 2008....
hehe no but the silk curtains that are replacing the sliding doors of my clothes closets are olive green. :D

I'm being very good with paint colours. They're lighter than I usually go.

oops I forgot, I'm painting my wardrobe a gorgeous olive colour with a yellowy cream inside. Guess I will need some olive green paint. :D
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 20, 2008....
Ouch, Mimi!  Do you have any aloe vera or lavender oil to put on it?  Lavender oil will take the burn right out and help to heal the skin.  I'm an essential oils nut.  :-)

    My day has been BORING.

Here's hoping you have more fun excitement in the future.
