lol....that's right!!!! do you know this first-handed?

MM&I - well, I experienced the "any less irritating" part as I had to drive around a big truck parked in the middle of the road at lunch to go buy my chocolate.

uni, if i may add an entry?  "riding my ass, calling me bad names and giving me the finger (you know the one)" will not make me go any faster, it will only make me call up my friends over at police dispatch and have them run a trace on your plate so i can egg your house later :)  (not really)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 19, 2008....
fraggles - ya know what really pisses them off when they're already asses like that?  Slow down some more and hog the middle of the road for about 2 miles!

There ought to be a service that tracks down dickey drivers like that.

Hope it wasn't me.... No, really---one of my hubby's suggestions for my fear of driving in bad weather was to "go slow and put on your blinkers."   I won't stop completely though----unless I can't get up the hill.  Then somebody better push me!
  • nytquill17 said on Nov 19, 2008....
Wombie - going slow and putting on your blinkers IS a good way to deal with bad weather, especially when visibility is low.  Try to keep as much speed as you feel comfortable with so you're less of an obstacle for other drivers, but don't drive so fast you can't react in time when you can't see in front of you....and then because you're going slow and it's hard to see, put your blinkers on to alert other drivers that a) you're there (because the blinkers make you more visible) and b) you're doing something they might not expect, i.e. going slow on the highway.

We had to have a notice at my university every single year, that said "remember, putting your blinkers on does NOT turn a no-parking space into a parking space!"
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 19, 2008....
wombie - In really bad weather I can see slow and blinky, but today was a clear day and it was at a dead stop.

nytquill - LOL I've notice at universities that seems to be the common misconception.

I understand how you felt uniquely-ironic, I try to deal with it the best way I can  . . . like for instance I think about something a little more pleasant like being behind a school bus that keeps on stopping every hundred feet to drop off a kid or two when you're running late . . . !

Okay well here I am at another driving post and I gotta say I have had problems lately.

I seem to be losing my vision at night time, I have to slow down to a crawl because I can't see properly at night anymore... its damn scary so if you drive up behind me and start with your hand waving, yelling and shit I'm telling ya.. I'll slam my brakes on and see how good your brakes are... and reaction time.

I think I need to get my eyes checked again, its either that or stress.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
CM - yes, it can drive you nuts if you take it personal.

Lucy - since having lasik surgery on my eyes I've had shit for night vision.  I try my best to not drive at night, and if I have to it's much more cautiously than my day driving.
  • Lucytorial said on Nov 20, 2008....
I've only just noticed it, I mean my eyesight's bad already, I degrade about a point every year or two, but until recently I've never had a night vision problem... I feel like I'm going to hit something...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
Lucy - part of it is age working it's magic.  Do you wear glasses to drive?
  • starchini said on Nov 20, 2008....

I OBJECT!  lol...uni and fraggles, regarding the drivers that ride your ass...could it be that maybe they are really late for work and need to pass you but cannot because your in the middle of the road???

Im not defending speeders, they should wake up with enough time to get to work, but ive over slept before...so i understand the need to get to places fast.

And I would like to add an annoyance i have:

"i hate it when im late for work and some ass-hole is hogging the center line not letting me pass!"

    lol...

on the other hand, ive been the slow one many times...many many times.  Usually trying to save gas when im not late.  And when i see some one gaining on me and i know they need to pass, you know what i do???

I do this:  I steer off to the RIGHT and hug the SHOULDER and i let them pass me...

If traffic is thick and there is more than one car wanting to pass me i almost ALWAYS pull over and STOP so they all can go around.

Yes, im understanding when it comes to slow pokes and speeders, i like to accomodate for both groups sense i drive for both of them : )

Im glad im not driving behind u uni and fraggles, ud drive me bonkers if i wanted to pass and u squeezed over to the left so i couldnt see around you...id definitly flip ya both the bird.

oh oh i have another annoyance that i think prolly annoys everyone on the planet!

"dont you hate it when you let someone pass bc they were tailgating you, and the second they get around you they start driving slower than you!?  I hate that"

  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
Star - I do pull over, or into the slow lane, when the opportunity is there.  But, there are roads that are not wide enough to do that.  I know for a fact that passing one car on the road will not get a speeder where they're going all that much faster.
  • starchini said on Nov 20, 2008....
hehe, but we think it will : )
  • Lucytorial said on Nov 20, 2008....
I have to yes, its on my lisence.. I'm short sighted, but as far as my glasses go I'm starting to have trouble seeing signs again so I have to get checked... I'm thinking of doing it today, along with all the other things I need to get done.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
Star - that's the problem with thinking ;)

Lucy - I'm due for new "old people" glasses.  I keep putting it off as if somehow that will make it untrue.
  • Lucytorial said on Nov 20, 2008....
ohh that and the lies I tell myself about eye exercises?? of course if I do them I won't need glasses at all!! te hehehe..

oops sorry about the dent in the car honey I just didn't see that huge mother fucking cement pilon!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
As I understand it, there's no cure for long arm syndrome.  (old age far sightedness)  I refuse to go gently into that  dark night!  Compound that with the fact that when I put glasses on I look like a librarian and voila!  Instant ego crusher.
  • Lucytorial said on Nov 20, 2008....
I tried contacts once, green ones, they looked great for the first hour until I realised I was allergic to them.. people kept asking was I stoned? my eyes were so red and puffy from the irritation.. but I was determined to be green eyed for a day... I threw away $300 worth of contacts that afternoon... now I wear my library glasses...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 20, 2008....
I wore contacts and glasses for many years before surgery.  I had an extremely thick lens even with new technology.  I think that's why I'm fighting going back into contacts or glasses now.  I should just get over it.
