piercing pagoda?  I hadn't thought you shopped there frequently, but what do I know?!
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 19, 2008....
That's a lot of stores.  I think if I give any gift cards it will be the pre-paid Visa cards.

Uni ~ I don't even know what piercing pagoda is.  This is a list that a girl got off from the internet.  I just put it up here.  There are a few I haven't heard of.  One of the Home Depots closing is in our area.  It was a fight to get in here, now I think there will be a lot of people who will miss it. What kind of store is that anyway?  Or should I even ask!

CW ~ Yes, that is a lot of stores, and a LOT of people w/o jobs again too.  Yes I think pre-paid visa cards would be the way to go.. or just plain cold cash.. if not mailing.

Wow--that's scary.  If I get gift cards, they are usually just the old standard Wally ones because they are easy to get and mail.  It's terrible how there is just more and more bad news every day about the economy falling apart.  Where are we going to be in a year, five years?  If they don't do something?
  • quietone said on Nov 19, 2008....
wombie ~ we all will be living in the south where there is no winter in communes..... LOL  (oh, and there will be little sheds to go to) To keep your things in! No one will work, only there, in gardens planted and mud huts to build.  we will all be self sufficient like the Amish.  But oh, how I will miss the conviences of microwaves and electricity... well maybe we better find a way to keep that! LOL

I know another store around here that's closing down too. Mervyns. I'm not sure if they have those in other places besides California, but it sucks because I liked that store! It's pretty sad that so many businesses are going under.

ET - Mervyns is a California only chain.  Yeah, I didn't think they were in such bad shape.

    scary ain't it!?

i think that's why the gas is so cheap right now to help all of us .....spend spend on the holidays! it's their master plan. shitfire just a month or so ago gas was 2 bucks higher. see.... it's a plan.

yup it scares me. i hate to see this. i'm not giving bought gifts anyways, mine are homemade. *smile*

i feel for the folks that are about to or have already lost their jobs. my prayers goes out to them! sigh..

    take care sis! *smile*

Ha Ha with the "shed joke" thing!  (inside joke)  We might be cold and miserable but still happy!   Hey, I learned about turkey farms and they are more or less self-sufficient, if you don't mind eating just turkey meat and turkey eggs!  We could do that!  (and I've eaten a few turkey eggs--the protein does wonders for your libido!)
  • secretlife said on Nov 19, 2008....
i'm so sad about Linens and Things!!!
Piercing Pagota is in 3 of the malls here- in the center.  They sell lots of jewelry; not just earrings.  All of us have had our ears pierced there!
I can't help but wonder what will fill all of these big stores that will soon be empty....

Do you think the Feds will bail them out too?
    Sorry.........i can't resist.
  • quietone said on Nov 19, 2008....

    e. t. and uni ~ nope, there aer Mervyns in Washington state.  There was one in the mall where I lived.  I liked that store too.

mobil ~ no its not, sad to say.  But hopefully when all is said and done someone will learn something around this world.

fraggle ~ I don't think you are alone in that statement.  It will be a different christmas for a lot of folks.

memy ~ I love homemade gifts way better anyway.  More thought and more love involved in them.  :)  Good to see ya s.s.

wombie ~ yup, I could live on turkey and eggs.. don't know about turkey eggs, but I suppose I could get used to them.. as far as that libido..... ha, I think it would take more than a few turkey eggs here! LOL

secret ~ I like linnens and things better than bed and bath, they seem cheaper and have more good things.  Hey... I wonder where the "bail" will end?  probably just before it gets to the real people who need it!!.......... US!

Quietone is correct. There was a mervyns in the Kitsap Mall in Silverdale ... not sure if it's still there since I don't usually go to malls.

Hello quietone I'm glad you posted this information. For the past couple of years I have given out various gift cards but this year I have stopped. This year I started my shopping early and I'm enjoying the holiday season alot more. I can't tell you how much money I have thrown away over the years by not using a gift card before an hidden expiration date or store closing related issue from various cards I've recieved as gifts. I'm a good one for taking a Christmas card and tossing it in a drawer and forgetting about the gift card inside !  I know there are some laws protecting consumers with illegal expiration dated cards but I have been burnt alot in the past. Gift wrapping presents can be a headache but what the heck. Trying to find a place to put everything is my problem, and for those special gifts that need to remain hidden well I thank God for my r/v. Take care of yourself quietone it's been nice talking to you.
  • quietone said on Nov 20, 2008....

kitty ~ yup, mervyns was in the mall in Bellingham where I lived.  I did like that store too, as they carried different clothes than the other places... and reeasonable too... its too bad.

Cman ~ good to see ya.  Ah, nice to see a man out there doing some real christmas shopping!!  I used to enjoy shopping, but the past few years I am more of a bah humbug type person..... and I hate, hate wrapping!  LOL  the first few packages look great - then as it progresses.... egads! LOL But, kids don't seem to care what it looks like... they are too interested just to get to whats inside!

  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 20, 2008....

I never cared much for macy's although I'm sad to see it go.

Circuit City, on the other hand ... worthless bastards can close.

  • quietone said on Nov 21, 2008....

kitty ~ I go in to Macy's now and then and you can find some good deals if you look around, but other than that... nope.  Circuit City, well I kinda have to agree there.

  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 21, 2008....
Every time I went into Circuit City with my ex, sales people swarmed ... when I went in alone, I didn't exist. Was nice to see sexism alive and well
  • quietone said on Nov 21, 2008....
Yes I have been in stores that do that too...not just circuit city.  Or if I as a question like in Sears about a tv or something... they say things like they think I am stupid and wouldn't know the difference... that pisses me off!  LOL
  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 21, 2008....
Really?? At a Sears?? I've never had that experience here.
  • quietone said on Nov 22, 2008....
LOL the people here at sears must be the rejects from circuit city.  we don't have one of those stores in town.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 22, 2008....
The Sears here is awesome. I've always been treated with respect ... the sales people I've dealt with have always taken the time to answer all my questions. You should come here :p
  • quietone said on Nov 23, 2008....
Are you in WA?  I don't even know where "here" is!  LOL if it IS WA.. I have already been there for 10 years.  :)
  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 23, 2008....

    LOL

Quietone ... are you talking about the Sears in Silverdale?

  • quietone said on Nov 24, 2008....
LOL  I am talking about the sears where I live in Vermont.  I don't think I know where silverdale is.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 24, 2008....
LOL ... okay. Sorry. Thought you lived here in WA. My bad.
  • quietone said on Nov 25, 2008....
I used to live in WA for 10 years, then I moved back here.  I loved, loved it out there.  I lived in Bellingham.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Nov 25, 2008....
nice ... I lived in California until 1991 when the naval base my parents worked at closed down.
  • quietone said on Nov 25, 2008....
Yes, there were a few bases around that time that did close.  I moved back here in 99... I had to come home to be near my grandson.. he is now 9.  I am glad I made the choice as I would have missed both boys growing up... and that would have been just too sad.
