A few days after I started this job, I heard a strange 'thunk' coming from, well, i didn't know where from. A co-worker told me that it was the noise of a bird flying into the window. Over the last few months, I've heard this noise at least 3 times a week, but never witnessed it myself.

Well, this morning, as I was waiting for the water to heat up for my tea, I went to a window and looked out. There is a tree about 10 feet from this window, and there were 20 birds in the tree. All the sudden, they all flew out of the tree, and before I even knew what happened, one of the birds flew straight at me and, you guessed it, 'thunk', right into the window. It sorta fell halfway to the ground, recovered, and flew back to the tree. but several other birds flew up to the window, not quite running into it, but looking like they really wanted to get in.

I wonder, am I really that attractive that birds flock to me?

Anyway, that was just WIERD!

Aah!  Bless their little feathered wings.  I've had this happen a couple of times at my kitchen window.  Poor silly things, they have no concept of glass LOL!  I'm glad the little fellow (or lady of course:) managed to to recover.

Just realised trav - it MUST have been a little lady as she obviously couldn't resist your charms hee hee :)

Now I know this may sound a bit wierd but it is meant to work (I don't do it as my window is close to the feeders and it's only ever happened twice) but is there a way of maybe hanging some string across the window with a few bright coloured streamers on?  It would be such a pity for any of our little feathered friends to break their necks going into the window.  I've seen that happen and it really getsto  you I can tell you.  It was horrible to see.  Just as idea from an avid bird lover :)

Not that I doubt that you are the pied piper of birds, but it's also possible they are seeing their own reflection in the glass.  Good idea about putting something on the window so that they don't off themselves.

i think they're sparrows memy, and thank you for the compliment :-)

it's a verizon office building pc, they won't let us do anything like that, it'd detract from the asthetics

i hadn't thought about reflections ui, i bet that's what it is. the windows are tinted, and when it's light outside they look like mirrors. i bet the birds see themselves and think it's another bird coming the other way. i wonder how confused they get that the other bird can fly over there but they hit some invisible force field?

i am in fact sure that these birdies were women, because, yes, you do make us women want to bang our heads into walls sometimes.....oh snap! no she didn't!

Someone should put some kind of a pattern with tape on that window Trav, something to allow them to see it's not a fly through area.

only sometimes fraggiepoo? hmm, i must be slippin!

well, since i'm only a contractor and low man on the totem pole of a low group, i'm not gonna say nothin to nobody mobil.
  • mobil said on Nov 19, 2008....
Yeah, well when you get to the top of that totem pole, put some tape on that window will ya?...............good luck

Now then trav - there's no getting away from it now ha ha!  Uni, mobil and me say put some tape or streamers on that there window my boy!  Don't matter how low down you are in the pecking order ('scuse the pun) Mother Nature will be real glad you saved some of Her little feathered friends :)

PS (god I know how to piss people off) if you aint gonna say nothing to nobody, must mean you gonna say something to somebody as, 2 negatives make a positive right?! Hee hee.

now that is weird.....never heard of that before, I guess we don't have too many birds left in manila.

lol mobil, if i ever get there, i'll take it under advisement

just like two wrongs make a right pc? but i figure that since people who've been here 15+ years know about it already and nothing's been done, then my saying something won't change that fact, and might just 'get me on the radar' of people who's radar i don't wanna be on. at least not for a potentially negative subject as defacing their building because of some stunned birds, know what i mean?

hmm, how do you tease a bird sss sss sss?

    it sure startled me qpdoll!
