  god, parents have a hellova lot to answer for in some cases. holy shit. if you can get a few good come backs for when they try to belittle you like that.. it might help. it's condescending and critical iykwim????  i dunno Qp but if you can sorta politely tell them that you won't be spoken to like that or treated like that, it might help?? no one has the right to make continuous snide comments about people like that in my books.

  It really shouldn't matter, but studies bear out that "pretty" people get better jobs and better pay.  I think you're very pretty Queenie and so what that you're not anorexic model thin!!!  I think what's most important is that you feel good about yourself and you dress professionally.  Confidence is the sexiest most beautiful part of a person, no matter what they look like physically.

  Listen, I worked as a hiring manager for many years, and of course appearance is very important. Appearance, not weight.  Someone who is well groomed obviously cares enough to present themselves in the best light, and if you care about yourself you'll care about your job.  That's the first thing the interviewer notices. 
  But, more importantly, they want to see someone who can bring something of value to the company, someone who will take the job seriously.
  
  Too many job applicants are more interested in what the company is going to do for them, rather than what they can do for the company.
  If you really listen to the interviewer you'll be able to answer his questions more thoughtfully, and that makes a good impression.
  
  No one likes to interview applicants all day...it's very tiring. If you make it as easy as possible for this person, they'll remember you, and showing them that you are a good "fit", that you'll fit in well with their corporate culture and add value to their company, makes an impression on them....not what your parents or your scale tell you.

  I hired allot of females Queenie, I looked first for intellegent, well dressed meant they gave a shit and last I looked at how they would fit in to what was in place.

  Queenie, don't let that weight thing get to you.  I haven't seen those pics, but I'm sure you're beautiful ... just look at all of these other compliments!  That's pretty icky of your parents to treat you that way ... last time my dad made a derogatory remark like that to me I went off the deep end on him.  I explained that it makes me feel worse, which in turn makes me depressed, makes me eat, makes me lazy.  He's not helping, he's making it worse and I hope he feels guilty as hell when I die because I'm so depressed and overweight that my body physically couldn't handle it anymore.  I also told him I didn't ask to be given these genes and that I had been asking for help but wasn't receiving it.  I also reminded him that he never has known what it feels like to be overweight so he needed to keep his mouth shut.  Then I added a few barbs about his poor spelling/reading/comprehension skills and that pretty much capped it off.  He's not said another nasty thing to me since.  I don't let it bother me as much, I'll not lie, it does affect me that I'm overweight ... but when it comes to the important things like work, family, etc. it doesn't bother me.  I'm there for my brain, my personality and skills.  If somebody shuns me for my weight, I don't feel bad about myself, I feel bad for them for being so shallow and small minded.  So, you are very bright, smart, capable and beautiful ... you can and WILL do anything.  Don't let a little bit of weight stop you!  I haven't.

  Honestly?  I've never seen a picture of you to know if your beautiful or if you carry your weight well.  My ex carries her weight incredibly well.  That said yeah your weight does matter, particularly if it is a close competition for a job.  Anybody who tells you otherwise isn't doing you any favors.

  Maybe it's not a good way to judge people, but it is a fact of life.

  I gotta say Secret ~ You are dead right.  We had a bus driver come in for an interview the other day, I swear to god he spit polished his shoes, he was wearing a crisp white shirt, vest, black slacks, nice clean smart belt, groomed to perfection... for a bus driving job... most the drivers are slobs... we hired the guy on the spot! ohh he was also rather rotund. so it matters not what weight issues people have or don't I tell you its all about the confidence with which you put yourself out there with.
   
  Sean being over weight as well as skinny can adversly effect your prospects, however queenie isn't overweight like that.  Someone who looks ill, either toooo skinny or tooo fat won't have as much chance as someone who is healthy zoned you know, I know what you are saying though.

  I did mention that I have no idea what SHE looks like.  She might be pretty and well kempt in which case she should be just fine.  It's just I get sick and tired of the, "I'm fat, I'm healthy, I'm beautiful" mantra.  We've proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that obesity kills.  Just like smoking.  Even if you are healthy that means your lucky, not that you don't have a habit that needs to be fixed.

  It's one of those downsides to society that I see.  Just like I see nothing positive from the current educational system where we try to give awards to everybody and won't fail anybody, which ultimately leads to a nasty shock when they can't keep jobs because they haven't even the basic skills.

  She'll be fine if she puts effort into her apperance well kempt, well dressed, polite, all of that good stuff.
   
  Though to be fair even that partially depends on what kind of job she's applying for.  Secretaries for example in many cases are eye candy for your lobby and unless you really need someone who can type 100wpm then really any body will do.

  There is one thing though, taking responsibility for your own health is a huge problem all over the world although mainly in western countries.  The immediacy of our lifestyle creates the lazy gene in many, eating wrong, not exercising, smoking, drugs alcahol... etc etc.

  Well obviously the industry matters.  If you're programming computers no one gives a shit if your a six armed tentacle monster.  We want Vista to stop sucking so hard.  :-P

  It is also social and cultural. . .though to be fair being attractive is usually a plus.  There is no such place on earth as a female dominated society.  Women (even in the West) up until the day before yesterday were judged primarily by their ability to attract a husband.

  It is more than the immediacy or our life style though.  That hasn't helped, nor has the less active jobs that have started to dominate our lives.  But it is also the people saying it's ok you don't need to.  Which is why I compared it to the schools. 

  Our schools and our general health are both results of when we stop rewarding positive behavior and punishing bad and instead choose to generally ignore both.

  Hey, queenP. Well, I'd like to say that it doesn't matter how you look but I don't know about the Philippines. In Japan all resumes are accompanied by a photo. Maybe this is just an old custom and I don't think you can be rejected for being overweight or having bad teeth or whatever, not legally anyway. Maybe they just want a face to put with the details. But I think even in the Philippines they should be hiring you for your skills and abilities and not for your looks. Besides, even if you are heavy you have a charming smile. The most important thing is to be a good worker who gets along with her coworkers and don't cause the boss grief. If you can show off your charm that should be good enough for the looks department.
  
  As for your parents calling fat, that really doesn't help. An ex of mine started binging and then throwing up because she felt so bad about herself after her mother and father kept telling her she was fat and no one would date or marry her. I dated her and she was alright. In the end however, it was a clash of personalities that broke us apart.

  Yes there is an assumption that fat people are lazy and don't care about their appearance.  America has an obesity problem and 66% of this nation doesn't have glandular problems, nor are they females going through a phase of whacky hormones or anything else that a daily walk around the block and some sit ups wouldn't solve.  Those problems do exist and honestly people who have those problems should understand if the shoe don't fit don't wear it.  It like if I talk about people who look nasty because they come to work sweaty, if you have hyper active glands like my dad where he can sweat in the snow just taking a walk, well obviously you're a special case.  That isn't the norm however.

  but he said it was because he was getting teased all the time he decided to do something about his weight really...
