Now it's that time again. My Altar must be taken down, and put away in a better place until i can figure out a spot for it. I just love setting up my altar though, so I can't wait til I can again!!!
Here is a picture of my Altar before the Cat. Yes I know it looks crowded and stuff - but it really wasnt. I had my rainstick, a pouch of charms and stuff, 5 tarot decks, 1 oracle deck, a scrying mirror, a crystal ball, a round bottle with the cresent moon, a wand, 3 knives, a oil burner, a mosiac tile, a rune pouch, a little budda, an incense holder, a small vase, a pendulum, countless candles, rose petals, and a few stars. >>' Okay well that sounds a lot.

Now here is a picture, after the cat. No he did not make the mess, but things had to be kept away from him and he avoided jumping up there with so much crap. Now he is currently perfering the kitchen window.

My only solution for now is my mini altar.

Dropped to the bare essentials for me. I looked around the house for a small cloth, something earthy, something airy, something firey, and something watery. Spirit I already knew I would put a small glow in the dark star. They are perfect symbols of the spirit. Glowing brightly one minute only to dim out the next. Thats Life. Well anyways, here is what I found!

I cut a small piece of this cloth I had left over from a bag project, I wanted an altar cloth - I usually have one but I just didn't manage one for the window. I found a fake flower and cut off one of the leaves for earth. I have feathers from several different projects, so that was pretty easy for air. For fire, I've heard people suggest just a simple match. Water was the semi difficult one, some people suggest a timble. I didn't have one so I settled for the next smallest type of cup - a Lid to some pop.
And, WahLa! Altar in a Bottle.

It's never hard to make your own homemade, non store bought altar. I've heard people ask, what do I >Need< on an altar. In my head - You need nothing on one. But if it helps you focus on the divine, I like to go to first the elements - I think this is the ultimate base for any altar. If you have that, I don't believe you need anything else. Candles and incense are cool, so are things like wands, knives, female things and male things. But all of that can be brought back to the basic elements of earth, air, fire and water. The God aspect is knife, fire, and air. The Goddess aspect is cups, earth and air. Heck your altar could be so cool as to only have a Cup with a kitchen knife in it. That is the union of both aspects. No altar is wrong.
