A woman of the same age as Yuri. She almost had the same characteristics as Yuri's except for some things. Elle, though considered a silent type, prefers to mingle with friends instead of sitting in a corner meditating. She is indeed a monophobic. She doesn't want to start a conversation but when someone offers her a talk, she would get into it. The bottom line, a girl ready to be unleashed.
They have known each other since the 2nd grade. They graduated in the same primary and pursued their education in same secondary school. They were classmates until 3rd year. By 4th year, a reshuffling of sections occurred. Unfortunately, they didn't become classmates. Both of them didn't know if it is a by product of irony or a tricky play of fate when they became classmates in college.
Ever since classes began, their classmates noticed the deafening silence emanating in their area. While others were busy laughing, chatting, having the getting-to-know-each-other communication, Yuri preferred to perch his chair to the wall making him lean so that he could meditate and Ella busied herself scribbling. Both of them seem not to notice other's existence.
"Hi I'm Ed, and you are?" asked Ed, one of their blockmates.
"Yuri," Yuri nonchalantly answered as he dryly stared at Ed. Ed went away then and Yuri continued his MEDITATION.
Weeks passed, almost everyone know each other already. One time, Ed, as always inquisitive as he was asked Elle if she knows who her seatmate is. "Yuri, my friend." answered Elle. Ed, together with the eavesdroppers were silently slack-jawed with what they have realized; those two dorks who seem not to know each other's existence are friends.
Essy, a somewhat explorer, partly-somehow- investigated as regards to the history of the two dorks. Elle, stated her every detail of their friendship. As anticipated, Essy was dumbfounded.
After several days, an astounding metamorphosis happened between the seatmates; they are talking to each other now.
People started to notice something is going between the two. When they talk, they talk candidly. They always have eye-to-eye communications. Phlegmatic faces were of no existence. One question looms: Are they in love to each other?
One day, Essy was quite impressed of herself that she had cultivated the chameleon's feelings. Soon, she would be advising Ella to unleash her feelings and show the whole world her unrelenting affection to his Mr. Right. All of a sudden, she realized her daydreaming is attacking her again. Ed called her attention who pointed his index finger towards the new lovers(?) of their room. They are chatting again.
Essy curiously approached the two. "What's the real score between the two of you guys?" she asked intriguingly.
Both of them were agape. Yuri blushed, undeniably exasperated by the newly thrown question. Ella, on the other hand teetered. Both of them unable to answer. Both of them turned tomato red.
"Ayee!" jeered the whole class who heard the query of Essy.
Plethora of jeers continued to dominate the surrounding.
Essy noticed a slight smile tweaked the end of Elle's lips. Yuri is having a cold sweat now.
"We're just friends," impassively answered Yuri who in the end gave a slight smile.
Their blockmates noticed the smile that cascaded to further jeer. Both of them showed apathy to what was happening.
Their blockmates seemed to realize that Yuri and Elle were abashed. They truly were. The jeer slowly subsided. Their blockmates seem to realize that both of them were taking the jeer of grave importance. Eventually, the mob dispersed. The jeer went to extinction.
Both Yuri and Elle were left red-faced. They looked at each other slowly. When their gaze met. They got distracted and both of them gazed to different ways. They feel awkward now. Uncomfortable. The solace they have build was marginalized by the jeer, to worsen, it might have been ripped out.
"Curse that Essy," said Elle to herself. Deep inside, her feelings are coming to realization. Little by little, she comes to notice that since the day she caught sight of Yuri again, she is falling in love for him.
"Oh, the Hell," said Yuri in his senses. He finally got the thing he greatly feared of; fearing that somebody realized his secret feelings to Elle. He somehow regretted the day he started paying attention to Elle. Now, his deepest secret is revealed and he is having second thought if Elle noticed it or not. He can blame nobody. He is just a man.
Both of them didn't utter a line. After several minutes, "We're only friends aren't we?" asked Elle uncomfortably looking at Yuri.
"Ye...Yes!" answered Yuri who managed to fake a smile.
Both of them felt the pang into their heart as they ended their communication. Both of them left behind, unsure what move to do. Will they continue talk to each other and pretend that nothing happened and fool people and themselves that they are just friends, or will it be the other way around?
