I just saw a tv show on HD Net about a book by Tom Harpur called The Pagan Christ. Maybe I'll order the book if it is cheap, used, on Amazon. It says that Jesus Christ never lived, as far as I can tell. It says that Christianity was a knockoff of ancient Egyptian myths about Horus (Jesus) and Isis (Madonna). It says that the whole thing, all of Christianity, is to be found in ancient Egyptian myths, the whole story, lock stock and barrel. It says that Constantine was a bad dude who spread a lot of lies, and suppressed the truth, and sent people to rewrite history and destroy ancient knowledge. And yet, the author remains a devoted Christian, more devoted than before, not caring that there never was a Jesus, happy to have deep roots going all the way back to ancient Egypt, and loving the "analogies" found in the Jesus story that are relevant to us, how virgin birth is analogous to our own realization that God is within us, that sort of thing.
It's the kind of "rewrite history" thing that appeals to me. Also on the show were some Christian theologians saying that Harpur has holes in his theories, and that the ancient Egyptian myths are not known to the degree that Harpur says they are, and that he is making them out to be whatever he needs them to be in order to strengthen his case.
I'm always up for believing that some big shot was a skunk. Constantine the skunk. That's my type of theory, since I pretty much believe that all the big shots in the history of the world were skunks. Fits right in with my own likes and dislikes, knowing absolutely nothing about Constantine. He was emperor of Rome? That in itself proves that he was a skunk. I think you can't go far wrong with that approach. Ambitious men claw their way to the top. Top of the food chain people are not nice. That's the general rule. They are either evil, stupid, misguided, or a combination of these wonderful traits. Lincoln being an exception, and America's founding fathers also providing lots of exceptions to this rule, which is why America is as great as it is despite having nothing but skunks in charge for over 100 years. That's Lennyism in summary.
