Since joining soulcast 10 days ago, I have realised the amount of mental stimulation I have missed out on for a long time. The oppotunity to speak to othrs from accross the globe, is one not to be missed. There are some real intellectuals writing their views, and their are some real activists on-line. From entering into some discussions with others, I realised that culture, is slightly different accross the pond, and I want to understand why?

Now I'm not going to voice an opinion in this blogg I have a real desire to understand how free you all feel within your own country, be it America, or England, or any where else in the world.

I live in England and at the moment, I enjoy real freedom of speech, thought, and culture. However, with this freedom, comes the fear, that whilst we all carry on feeling free and accepting others, there are certain groups who want to rob us of that freedom. We allow even extremist views to be verbalised. Sometimes it can be very upsetting, when a person from another country/culture, comes to stay in England, claims all of our benefits, then stands on a podium calling us the infidel. However in the nature of freedom we at present allow this to happen.
We have relaxed laws of many subjects, abortion is still accepted without too fear of retribution from activists, christianity is not rammend down our throats, life is fairly relaxed.

Now, and I only speak from what I have seen on the news and read in the paper, so please I would love your insight, and feel free to put me straight. America appears to have a democracy, and freedom of speech, however, there does seem to be a stronger religious network, abortion is more difficult and you don't have a national health service. I don't think you would allow immigrants to stand on podiums and put down your country, and you seem to have in some states very strict views.

Which country to you feel is the most democratic?
In which country can you voice the truth without fear of recrimination?
Which country has the most freedom?
The internet gives us access to the whole globe, and with this in mind and the fact that many of us are willing to hear the truth as well as tell the truth I feel this is an ideal oppotunity to find out what you all feel.
Thankyou xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well, MissF, the USA is not a true democracy, nor is any country in the world to my knowledge. I believe they are republics. But to go beyond semantics, I have to say that I am mostly comfortable with life here in the USA. You cannot get on a soapbox here and advocate the violent overthrow of the government, but it is said we have a revolution here every 4 years. I have never lived under another government, so my experience is quite limited, but I am for the most part content with our system on this side of the pond. After all, everyone knows that the word politics comes from the Greek "poly" meaning many, and "ticks" meaning bloodsuckers, right?

Interesting satyr, it is true that we are usually comfortable with what is familiar, and judging by the lack of comments it would appear that no-one is really that bothered either way.
    thanks for your comments.

I feel really sad that no-one wanted to pass a comment, maybe I'm treading on dangerous ground, I would have loved to have learnt more.

    Good Question...
I'm not a real authority on this but I have lived in other countries (South America) and I'm glad that I live in the U.S.
In other countries....(doesn't matter what your socioeconomic status is) you can go to bed one night with one goverment and wake up the next day and surprise....another goverment has kicked in and taken over. Life still goes on but with another goverment in power...it usually only affects the ones with close ties to the former power that was.
That doesn't happen in the U.S. or G.B. but as far as who has the most freedom? don't know as laws tend to vary in each country and in the U.S. it can vary within each state.
I think of freedom as freedom.... is one woman more pregnant than another ? if both are pregnant then that's it. Then it's only a question as to who's pregnancy is healthier and who's going to have the boy or the girl.

missfickle, it's hard to answer that question honestly unless one has actually lived for a long time in both countries. I've never lived in the UK (unfortunately - I would sure love to!!!) but the US sure doesn't feel that free to me.

Thanks Strangeone, from an outside viewpoint, I don't see you guy's have that much freedom either, but hey what do I know? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

One of my friends at work was telling me about this date she went on the other night, and she wanted a man's opinion about the whole thing. I was more than happy to tell her what I thought, but I am curious what other people might think too....
