Thank God this long political season has come to an end! The outcome wasn't what I had hoped for, but I remain hopeful for our future. I pray that Barrack Obama will indeed be just what this country needs. I hope that we can now begin to bridge the racial divide that has divided this nation for so long (although I believe that divide has been a matter of perception)
I hope that we can put some of the political differences that have separated us behind us, and work together as Americans to make this country as great as we all know it can be.

God Bless America.....and God Bless Barrack Obama!

You know.....I actually liked McCain speech......its true, when you lose you have to show your gracious cheek and honor the winner but he had quite sincere words toward Obama......and Obama had many words recognizing McCain....its true..the winner has to be kind toward the loser...

But if there have been clear keywords that both emphasized those have been unity and cooperation.....i think in those two ideas will be played any chance to fix the American broken toy...

But History tends to repeat herself, unfortunately.....

    well said.

"although I believe that divide has been a matter of perception"

From a southerner, it is not a matter of perception in some parts of this country.

    I missed McCains speech.

I hope they can fix it too ginger.....but yeah....I know what you mean :\

that could be true I guess bloc......it cuts both ways......those that have experienced racism in it's true form probably think that it's like that everywhere.....those who have not probably think that it doesn't exist for the most part.....I think it is rare really.....this election should ease things a bit I hope.

Bloc......so true....reality is well different from perception and i am sure that from the point of view of who has lived on their own skin the conflicts related to having a different skin color these extended hands and peace signals might appear as a tough steak to chew..

D6..... in this consists the real challenge of Obama, i think...he will have to cool down the ones too eager to taste revenge and single out the ones who will try to play the racial card without appear himself as a vindicative one.....good luck!

John McCain is indeed a class act.  I disagree with a lot of his views, but I was so impressed with how gracious and complimentary he was.  My hope is that both sides will put aside partisan fighting and work together.  Indeed, God bless America and the new president-elect.  It won't be an easy road.

I agree with you D6fer. The man won and I will show my respect and support. I have no choice. I must admit I had my concerns had John McCain won, his age was something to consider when you look at what he would have been up against. The stress alone probably would have taken it's toll early and sometimes I think he himself realized it by the way he handled himself in some of the debates. He had plenty of verbal ammo in his pocket but he failed to use it, had he, this election may have had a different outcome. Barrack Obama really bit off a mouthful and I hope he can help bring our country back to par. In the back of my mind knowing that he will be  chief political executive of the United States there are still hidden issues that haven't surfaced yet about Barrack Obama I still have my own concerns. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. In the past we've often refered  to the president by the use of his initials . . . Barrack Hussein Obama refuses to acknowledge his middle name so I can only say . . . good luck to and long live BO.

Now I am inclined to agree with you D. In this day and age it is a matter of perception as we can now see. I too pray that he is what this country needs. I think the bridge was always there it was just about us walking across it together as a nation AS WE JUST HAVE:~)

I am proud of our country as it put it's needs ahead of the hype and hoopla. I hope we can all work together to improve it beyond the shell that it has become under the Bush regime.

I must say I was not backing McCain, however his speach showed me that there is a little hope for unity in a government hat has eating itself inside out for far too long.

Both men are charismatic, Obama has a tough job ahead, lets hope he surrounds himself with men who have good heads on their shoulders and the poeples wellfare at heart.  America needs to grow again into a strong nation not one caught up in paranoid and underhanded policies... its a hope at least.

D6......Cheers.....to the close of the political season.  I was wondering what kind of comments I would find here knowing there were of course ,differing views concerning who should be our next leader.  I, too, am so proud of our country.  People came out, voted, let their voices be heard.

I have the utmost respect for John McCain and loved his speech.  I truly believe seeing and hearing both men applaud the other is a baby step in the right direction.  Obama does have quite the uphill battle ahead of him, but now, since we finally have a leader that many of the people seem to believe in, I hope things soon begin to settle down and this country gets back on course.

    Here's to president elect Obama........

I think it is our duty as Americans to give each new president a chance to prove his (or her) worth......I may disagree with Obama and his proposed policies, but he will be my president too......I'll give him a chance.

McCains speech made me cry. And i didn't even vote for him. He seemed upset when his supporters booed, and knowing some of his supporters....even though i see him sincerely trying to make the effort to work together.....there is WAY too much fear on the far right for that to happen right now........maybe once obama proves himself to not be the anti-christ.

I thought Obama's speech was perfect and very sincere.
