You're shipping off for Great Lakes over winter? Ouch! Try to keep warm.
Have you ever played an instrument in your High School Marching Band or scored high in the ASVAB? If yes, you're probably headed for a drill company. Recruit Drill Companies do bootcamp twice as fast so they can train to perform for bootcamp graduations. I hope for your sake you're in a Regular Marching Battalion.
You'll probably have to wait for your company to be formed - it can take a few days sometimes but don't worry, they'll get you standing recruit watches. Sleep when you can.
Do you know how to tie a square knot, a clove hitch, a round turn and two half-hitches, a taunt-line hitch and a bowline?
Have you memorized the 11 General Orders for a Sentry? Or your Recruit Chain of Command?
Recruit Firefighting training and the teargas are the two biggest concerns in bootcamp. One's smoky and wet, the other's not that bad. Just don't touch your face after leaving the chamber until you've had a chance to wash up.
Just remember to pay attention to what's going on around you, to stand your scheduled watches, keep your uniform, bunk, locker and berthing compartment neat, your boondockers shined and your face shaved - then you'll have nothing to worry about.
