I know how contradicting this is gonna sound, but it's raining really really hard right now.  For the past 3-4 hours I've been sitting here at my desk watching sheets of rain flashing across the windows.  The wind is so strong that the rain is traveling sideways.

I'm a little nervous about driving in this weather.  I've completely given up the idea of walking down to the pizza place for a bite to eat.  And we had daylight savings so that it's getting dark already and it's not even 5 pm!!

Where did all that lovely wet soft rain go?!!  This stuff sucks!  I'm definately going to stop and get a bottle of baileys to add to that espresso roast bean I got yesterday.

Careful driving, U-I - can't the pizza be delivered?

And yeah - daylight savings stinks with the getting dark early business!

I knew saying it would make you buy it! baileys I mean... LOL

You know I'm the biggest wuss driving in the rain, mainly because I can't fucking see even with my glasses on whilst driving in daylight... take it easy and heck... do you think it will ease up?

side note ~ Baileys and Pizza... hmm not such a good mix no?

Sideways rain?  Holy fuck!  See if that shit happened where I live I would go get my blanket from my trunk (it's wrapped in a plastic bag along with a change of clothes) and I'd sleep on the floor.  You best believe!

I don't like that kind of weather either. Not only is your visibilty reduced but that heart stopping feeling when your car starts to hydroplane, it sucks . . . big time. I remember going out to pick up some food one day and it started to hail. It lasted for about ten minutes and covered the ground with an inch of ice balls the size of marbles, it looked like snow . . .that really sucked I thought for sure my windows were going to break ! If I were you I'd wait it out . . . . . . wow that was over two hours ago, your probably home drinking baileys by now  . . .whatever the hell that is :0)

wishy - I ended up stopping for chinese take out and "waded" home.

Lucy - my car is so small and light I was more concerned about it being blown around on the road.  Baileys and chinese ..... er .... maybe not again.

SR - But I don't have that so I crept along getting home.

CM - I think we're actually supposed to get more of it.  We need the water, but this is ridiculous.

Disorienting isn't it ?  We get that all the time here in South Fla. and specially during Hurricane season.
The only good thing about it is that it doesn't last long and you can easily wait it out.
I've been in that situation and I know it's very disorienting.  You have practically the same visibility as in a blizzard and the sideways rain really throws you off 'cause it's so unusual.
Over here the topsoil is so thin that it doesn't hold the root systems of trees too well and the combination of soggy sponge soaked ground makes for many downed trees blocking roadways and knocking out powerlines....thus the importance of keeping your trees trimmed on a yearly basis....

Oh I know that kind of rain only too well. I  hope you enjoy your Baily's  and the espresso.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2008....
CM - haven't been over there yet.

queenie - I ended up going with chinese food and getting to bed early.

RC - here this type of rain can go on for hours.  It was still raining well after I got home with the take out food.  No idea how long it went.  This morning it's beautiful!

Skald - thanks!  I did, though I wouldn't advise eating chinese food with it.  Bleech!

link1 - Well, I did have to get home.  Sleeping here at work is not an option.  And yes, even when it's bright and dry, the idiots on the road are something to keep an eye on.

unique- Oooooooo Baileys. Now that can cure a lot in this world. Tucks you in nicely.

Those rains are bad anywhere, but deserts are especially bad for flash flooding. It seems every year I hear of people's car being washed off the road and drowning. It has happened inside this city before.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2008....
BTV - I hear about that too.  Where I grew up it we had flash floods and mud slides a lot.  Yes, Baileys can cure a lot of ails.

unique- I just noticed something. I need to watch my English.

I didn't mean the car was washed off and drowned, the people did.

    Did you catch that?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Nov 04, 2008....
BTV - No, I guess I was reading intuitively instead of literally :)  Yes, cars rarely drown.
