I'm here checking in, saying hello to my friends.  I haven't been doing much.  Just trying to keep my head above water.

I've been working a lot on Mamie's quilts.  So far I have six quilt tops done.  They need to be quilted and bound yet, but so far I'm satisfied with how it's going.  I sent her pics the other day and she was very complimentary.  She is always encouraging and optimistic.

Wonders never cease.  When the little cherry tree was uprooted during the Big Blow, mrM took a few small branches and set them in water to see if they'd root.  Their leaves turned brown, shriveled and fell off and I assumed that they were dead.  I had even gone so far as to throw one of them away.  (I got a stern look for that from mrM, but I glared right back and said I have minimum standards of home decor and dead twigs were definitely below minimum.)

Well.  Lo and behold, Saturday I noticed that the twigs in a jar of water in the sewing room are getting ready to bloom!  In November?  There are clusters of buds all along the twig.  I noticed the same thing on the jar of twigs on the livingroom window sill.  You just never know, huh?  Maybe we will have an indoor cherry crop in March.  Maybe a whole handful of them.  Um, I doubt it, but then, I thought the branches were dead too.

Sorry I don't have anything more exciting to report.  Hope you all are doing well.

Well that was exciting. So you will have a new cherry tree after all. That is great. And you are so good at the quilts. I admire you. I have not done any hand craft for a while now.

Interesting stuff Mimi, quilts and cherry trees, perhaps this could nudge your artistic talents towards a cherry tree quilt design?

Amazing how life seems to accomplish what we think is impossible.  I think I'll take a lesson from those cherry branches.  Thanks MissMimi!

Hi skald!  I admit I was excited when I saw those little buds.  And very surprised.  I still don't quite understand how it could be blooming at this time of year.

mobil, my daughter suggested that too.  I'll put it on my to-be-considered list, which is already a mile long.

uni, there does seem to be a lesson there.  Overcoming adversity?  Getting back up after being knocked down?  Interesting.
