Let your voice be heard.

I will never ever believe that it doesn't matter if you don't vote.  I feel so strongly that it is my civic duty to vote.  I remember that I was in sixth grade during the United States' bicentennial year.  I soaked up all the history of how this great nation was founded and how important it was back then to create a democracy so that each and every citizen had a voice in our newly formed government.

The days of aristocracy were over.  Freedom to choose was fought for and won.  Image the courage it took for our founding leaders to do that.  Imagine the courage it took for people like you and me to stand behind them.  Imagine how wonderful it felt to actually have a say in their government.  Imagine how they would feel if they knew that so few of us turn out to vote these days.

It boggles my mind when I find that some people don't vote because everyone has an opinion about our government.  Some of those same people that never cast a vote tell me I voted for the wrong candidate.  That is really a pet peeve of mine.

"No taxation without representation!" is in my blood.  I had ancestors participate in The Boston Tea Party.

In a true democracy, every citizen has the right to be heard.  That means you and me.

Choose your candidate(s) based on your beliefs and please go vote Tuesday, November 4th.

We do make a difference.   No excuses.

I did the early voting a few days ago. This is so easy there's no excuse for not voting. I've wondered for some time why we continue to vote on a Tuesday. Wouldn't Saturday work better for just about everyone?

I'm ready!  I haven't been this inspired about an election in a long time.  I'll be dragging mrM to the voting booth, even though we'll probably cancel each other out.  LOL

    beyond,
Saturday does sound better.  I wonder if the first Tuesday in November is tradition or law?  I might have to check that out.  I'm glad you voted.  :-)

    Mimi,
I think my husband and I are opposites this year too.  We both are still voting though.  Each of our votes will get stirred into the big pot called voter turn out.  :-)  I'm happy to hear you plan to vote too.

    amen creative woman!

i voted on thursday - i'm happy about the turnout...its good to see the folks line up early

i always get mad that they wait until the last minute to point out the broken aspects of our electoral system: bad voting machines, under serving poor neighborhoods etc...but, i'll get over it someday when we create a national standard that can't be monkeyed with

i be voting, none-the-less to be sure

my ancestors were in Massachusetts during the first shots of the Revolutionary war too!. I'm from a long line of scottish rebels. I think its very patriotic to point out the failings of a Republic as a way of creating balance that allows for greater levels of freedom. We are far from being free and at the same time free=er than most of the world.

anyway creativewoman, I too have love for my country, no matter how much i complain about it. Today i'm loving the American populace for showing up long before tuesday...yipee and God Bless America!

    andora,
I'm glad you are voting too.  I heard on the news today that the turn out for this election could reach record levels.  I sure hope it does!  :-)  It's about time the voting public takes an interest.

Three early votes for McCain from my family. I agree with the early voters. It
probably took all of five minutes from the car, back to the car. I will be interested
to see if the turnout is any better this time than usual. I saw one news cast
from an early voting place and they said blacks and older people were turning
out, but younger voters were light. Anyway, the final results should be interesting.
I predict that people will never believe presidential polls again.

Early Voter turn out for South Fla. was amazing.  There were waiting periods of up to 3 and 4hrs in some places.  Like a lazy ass I didn't go on my days off figuring I could go in the AM after I got off work on Saturday but the line was so long I put it off again.  On Sunday I went after work to mass and then to the early voting station to see a good 30+ people on line looking relaxed and settled in for waiting....then I found out when I got in line that it didn't open until 1pm....and it was only 9:15am  !
I decided to wait till voting day where the voting station (a park) is just 1 minute down the street from my house and I can get to that one directly from coming to work on my way home.
The only way I can justify any criticism of mine for the government powers that be is to exercise my right to vote.

    ALIEN,
I'm happy you've already voted.  It's going to be a close election and I do agree with you about the crazy polling.  I know you and I differ on who we want to win, but I'm thrilled we are in a country where we each can cast our vote and be heard.  And...still be friends.  :-)

    kelly,
I'm not in support of McCain either.

    Rc,
I think it is so refreshing to see long lines forming for those wanting to vote early!  It gives me more hope for our country than any political candidate just to see that we CARE who is going to lead us.

I hope you don't have to wait a really long time on Tuesday. I'm going to go mid-morning to cast my vote.

    ALIEN,
I disagree on that.  We are already leaning that way with the Bush administration.  This bank bail out is a prime example because of Greenspan's "miscalculation".  McCain would try to fix it, but in my opinion he would have the same ideology as the current administration.  I don't want that.

    Alien,

trickle down economics is like getting pissed on

    as Obama says,

building the economy from the ground up is the only way to have real growth, instead of the 'COOKING THE BOOKS' type of growth that the ENRON types have been getting dirt rich off of.

I assume you are not a rich person Alien, if you are a working stiff, then i am not impressed with your desire to keep 1% of the population as the 'owning class'. I am not a socialist, but a living wage would be a good start in spreading the wealth. holding down a full time job and not being able to afford rent or mortgage is not freedom, its slavery.

    as Kelly said:

a vote for McCain is a vote against the Constitution!

God Bless America and keep Barry Obama safe as he challenges the Good Ole Boy choke-hold of our nation!

    thanks for demonstrating what it is like to be 'CIVIL' creative woman...forgive me if i am not that mature ;}
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 03, 2008....
    Andora,
I do not agree with McCain's  ideals but I don't agree that he is against the constitution.  I do believe that he believes in trickle down economics though.  I personally, don't believe it's working too well at the moment.  Greed is too big of a factor.

I do ask that you follow my lead and keep the conversation civil.  ALIEN is allowed his beliefs and I respect him for standing by them.  I won't allow anyone to be personally attacked on my blog.  It's happened before and I have done some blocking and deleting.  I prefer not to do that. I only ask nice once these days.  :-)

It's not that McCain is against the constitution so much as the Republican party--as imagined and led by people like Rove, Cheney, etc.--are quite literally against constitutional checks and balances on executive power.  This is not a rant, this is what they themselves say.

The leadership of the Republican party is hostile to the idea that this country was founded with 3 separate and co-equal branches of government.  They believe that the executive (president) branch should have the power to do literally anything it wants, either on foreign soil or here at home, to achieve the goals it wants.  Congressional power is only something to be subverted when it gets "in the way."  Civil rights and human rights are quite literally scoffed at by people like David Addington, who is Cheney's right hand man.

Taxes are nothing compared to the eventual government interference which could become our future.  Namely, throwing anyone in jail that disagrees with or gets in the way of the executive branch.

I think Obama is OK, but mostly I voted against this kind of thinking that is now dominant in the Republican party.
  • CreativeWoman said on Nov 04, 2008....
I can agree with your reasoning about the Republican party., kelly.  Rove and Cheney give me the chills.

The lines in my precinct were not so long today thanks to the early voting I guess.... and I still had a bit more than an hour of waiting but everything went well.
Don't know how crowded it was later on during the day but I saw a couple of my neighbors standing in line also.  I can tell that the vast majority of registered voters here in South Florida went and exercised their voting rights....and that's a good sign.
