I know I still owe replies on the post before this one, and I'll get there. :) Thanks to all who took the time to respond! I love learning about people.

I'm sitting here looking at gorgeous photos of autumn around the world on Yahoo! News. Stunning. I'd love to see that deep blue lake in Norway ringed by cheerful yellow-garbed trees for myself someday, or return to build a cabin in the fiery explosion of colors in the Blue Ridge Mountains that feels so much like home.

On the side, I'm contemplating fabric for my daughter-on-the-way's blanket. I got behind on my son's -- linebacker's and little one's blankets are both knitted -- and I know I won't have time to do the new one that way even if I finish linebacker's before then. So I've had my eye on this fabric (two colors, one for the front and edging and one for the underside) -- too bad it's so expensive! :-p It's pretty though, so maybe I can have it as my Christmas and work on it after that point. I love having at least some kind of tradition, something I do for all my kids that takes some real effort on my part (I will sew her blanket by hand if I do get that fabric), but that's tangible and useful that they can keep.

[Side note: Nyt, little one still regularly requests her "butterfly blanket" that you made, so we put it on top of whatever other covers she has on her bed and she settles right down.]

It's been a Goo Goo Dolls few days. I love them (and Lifehouse, and Snow Patrol, and...).

It might finally be the right time here in a bit to plant the bulbs I've been hanging onto for months. Little one and I are going to plant a small sort of memorial garden for my Nana, and in the spring when the flowers bloom (some are my favorite, some little one picked out, and I will add some of Nana's favorites next time if all goes well), I will think of her and smile.

I'm looking forward to dressing little one and linebacker in their Halloween costumes on Friday. Little one is going to be SuperGirl (or as she says, "I a superhewwo!") and linebacker will be a knight, since his nickname has been The Sleepless Knight around here forever. ;-)

Then the warmth of Thanksgiving...and onward we go. :)

nice and warm pensive, my friend. must be exciting days for superhewwo and the little sleepless knight.

a small flower patch for your nana is a good idea. i have two araucaria saplings, one for my father and one for my mother, waiting in my garden for me to make a decision. i'm thinking of replanting them into bigger pots this coming all saints-all souls weekend -- our combined equivalent to the american halloween and thanksgiving traditions.

Sounds like you have a lovely autumn going.  It's my favorite time of year too :)  Sad to say ours is almost over...winter is looming!  We've already had our first snow, though it's all melted now.

I'm glad to hear she still likes her blanket!  You are having kids faster than I can make quilts, I will have to get cranking! lol ;)

Infernal....my mom called me yesterday and told me
" What do you want me to do for your grandma, your dad and you sister at the cemetery?".

The First of November is the day dedicated to the dead ones in Italy..

We all go to the cemeteries to bring some warmth to those cold places...

    I told my mom:
"Please, bring to each of them a plant from me. But a perennial one, one that will stay with them for a long time".

I looked at the sky and thought:
"The loved dead ones are not there. They are with us in our memories and our heart".

So this First of November i will buy white flowers to bring in my home..
I will put them in a white vase and watch them stay.
Still and beautiful and smelling good, their light scent will keep me company.........like my Nonna did, and my father and my sister.....like they cant do anymore...

I like that fabric for the baby....:-)

infernal- I always read and enjoy your pensive whether I comment or not.

I've never met a superhewwo before - until now.

I love your blanket tradition.  I had one with my kids that I hope they pass down.  Both of them came home wrapped in the same baby blanket that their dad came home in.  It was a Hawaiian style quilt that was beautiful.  (none of mine survived my childhood)

I am going to start a blanket tradition too!  My Mom actually started it, but I have some new ideas to add to it, I'm excited about it :)  I have to say that fabric is awesome!  I never thought of using chenille!  It's a good idea to use it for the backing of a quilt!  Hmmm....you've given me a great idea!  I promise I won't steal that fabric though :D

Hi, I feel you are not so often here nowadays. Like the fabric.

moon: Somehow I knew you would understand about the garden. :) What did you ultimately decide for the saplings?

nyt: I think I would prefer to keep a bit longer autumn than that! Although your summer probably doesn't run right through September, either...and I promise, no more kiddos after this one! ;-)

    queenie: Hi! :) I'm due Feb. 3rd.

ginger: I am learning too, that the best way to honor the dead is with life...there is something about flowers that is so soothing sometimes!

beyond: Thank you. :) She really loved her costume last night, and everyone remarked at how cute she was -- even though it was cold enough here (which is rare) to have to wear her coat (open) over her costume!

u-i: I love your blanket tradition, too. :) Very sweet!

tizzy: Chenille probably would make good, soft backing for a baby quilt.

skald: Hello, my friend! :) I am here every day reading, but I don't always have time to post or even comment. I do read your posts though. I love how you share your homeland with all of us so beautifully, and give us a window into your life.

infernal -- this morning, i decided that the two saplings can remain in their present pots for maybe a year more. i'm asking sophie to take care of them in my absence. after all, the two araucarias were a gift from her like the first one that i blogged about. she loved my parents more than her own (no kidding, really), and my parents loved her like a daughter.

I knew that whatever you decided would be wise and heartfelt. :) Those araucarias will be in good hands, which must be a comfort when you're far from home.
