I put a profile up on Facebook about a year and a half ago.  Then promptly forgot about it.  For the past three weeks, I have been innundated by "friends" requests from people I haven't seen, heard or thought about in more than 25 years.

The joy is that I got to get back in touch with the woman (girl) who was my best friend from the age of 6 months old to the age of 10 when we moved out of the area we were living in.  The conversation we had was more than 2 hours long and we probably could have spent at least 10 hours more catching up but she has 2 little ones that she had to take care of.

The hell - people I didn't ever want to see again have found me there too....

But for the most part, it has been fun catching up with sleepaway camp friends, elementary school friends and college friends.  I even got contacted by a woman who I used to babysit for when I was 12 years old (she was 8) and since we don't live that far, we are hanging out a lot to play....

Ha! I too reconnected with a friend from elementary school...who proceeded to lecture me that I shouldn't fancy myself young and should marry an old rich man and start a family because guys our age have a lot of issues. This and she is planning on divorcing her old guy husband because he is getting on her nerves!

Facebook can be addicting. When I am down though it sucks to see all these people having the time of their lives and here I am stuck in a rut. Lately it seems that all my friends are either getting married or having babies. What can I say? Trying to deal with my jealousy issues right now.

Hope you are doing well. Glad to hear your joy of facebook.

I'm with you, Mobil, I think we're too old. I think it's for young people whose faces still look like smooth sheets of paper, hence the name..."facebook".
My face looks like the Dead Sea Scrolls.

You're too funny Twillie, I'd bet you look much better than you describe, though my face looks like it stopped an express bus. haha

I'm on it, but haven't really looked up anyone and don't spend a lot of time there.  Mostly I got one because of my kids and sister.

If I didn't keep in touch with someone from the past it was probably for a good reason.  Not everyone is like that, though.  :)

That is great. I am glad for you. I know that many of my countrymen are on facebook but I don't really know how to get there. My son is there though.

facebook made the front page of our daily paper today, was about three women who were friends and were saying things on facebook and one took offence at a comment ,there was a iron bar and a length of black polly pipe as enforcers of each others view now one is in hospital with blood on the brain.no way am i saying this is the norm as i belive you can have enjoyable connections on facebook but a bit of caution all round is necessary .imo blue.

Sorry it's been a few days since I have written or even looked at this post.  Thank you for all of your comments.

Personally, I have not become addicted to it - adding all the apps, playing the games, etc.  I just find it fascinating.  As for the difference between facebook and my space, I just find that facebook is for the people in my generation (30s and 40s) where MySpace seems much younger.

In terms of social networking, I am very involved in LinkedIn.com which is for the business world.

And Bubblegum, I hadn't heard about that incident, but what I have heard is that Facebook, Myspace and Twitter now have a really hideous virus which is being downloaded into people's computers and sucks up their banking information, so lately I have not been at any of these places.   But if you remember, there was an incident in Florida about a year ago where a cheerleader wrote nasty things on her MySpace account and all her "friends" called her to the house of another where they beat the crap out of her (and filmed it for YouTube).

Personally, I am very careful about what I put out on the net (including here which is why I like being annonymous).  Have you every done a search on yourself?  Seen what is out there or what others have said about you?  This is forever - you will never get a chance to remove this stuff from the internet. People should keep this in mind.

WAAAAAH!...
I'm thinking of signing up for facebook. This seems to be a good place. I want to find out more about it first though....
Facebook, Apple and Google all want to build the next great platform, all vying for web supremacy. Who will win the war?...
