I often times give the impression that I do not believe in the the truth that is captured in this book. That, in itself, is not true. I've read this book from cover to cover 4 times, and study it often. I live by many principles that are held inside.
What I do not follow is the interpretation of modern religion that I believe has perverted the messages held within. This book is a collection of ideas promoted by humans and their perceptions of a relationship with the universe and the non-human beings they've encountered. It is their interpretation of the situations they've encountered, and it is a common point that many can use to express their own experiences.

Love those around you as much as you can, even when you don't feel like it, because the rewards from that type of selfless love are what you are looking for to fill the void in your life.
Treat others as you want to be treated, because they will treat you about the same way you treat them. And treat others as they treat you, because that's how they want to be treated.
Always remember that there is more to the universe than yourself, it does not end with you, you are only a part of it, but nonetheless, an important part.
Every person that ever lived is unique, and is here for a purpose that is uniquely their own.
Evil comes from nowhere else but inside humans, as far as humans are concerned. So fight that evil whenever it presents itself to you, but always remember to embrace the goodness. Goodness can be your ally in a stringent battle, and the goodness just might be in the one you see as evil, so always look for it.

For me, it's not about 'worshiping a higher being'. That limits me to being just a follower. And the example pointed out in that book named 'jesus christ', was not a follower. It is about recognizing my place and my power in this world, the influence that I command, and the responsibility it entails.
Yes, I live by the words of the bible, and of many other texts. Because they are good words. They teach me. They point the way to a better life. They comfort in times of trouble and doubt. They remind me that there is more to life than just my base desires.
work out your own faith. leave out the fear and trembling, paul was speaking to a different world.
