My younger daughter just graduated college as a music education major, and despite her nearly straight A average from a well respected school (The College of New Jersey) and a pretty amazing stint as a student teacher where she singlehandedly gave her adopted high school a percussion band that kicked ass in concert, she found it impossible to get a job in the field.
The summer was almost over. Time was running out. Did she just waste four years of college? What is she going to do with her life? How is she going to pay off her student loans? Is she going to be miserable?
Then on August 25th, suddenly out of nowhere, a week before the start of the school year, she was offered a full time teaching job! On my mother's birthday. Hi mom.
My daughter just said, this evening, that she got her first kiss from a student. She teaches kindergarten through third grade. She loves her job.
My son has been living in a horrible little apartment with his wife and two children aged 7 years, and the baby just 3 months. Struggling to pay high New Jersey rent of about $1400 a month for crap. Falling behind.
This past Monday he flew his entire family to Jacksonville, Florida, checked them into a motel, and started looking at apartments there. He signed the papers on a beautiful apartment yesterday, (under $1000 a month) and the moving men are bringing all their stuff from NJ today, my father's birthday. Hi da. My parents lived in Florida.
