Captured through one of the city’s traffic camera, the video - which is now spreading around the Internet - shows how one of the fire trucks actually colliding with the other truck coming from the left. According to witnesses, one fire truck was going east on Martin Luther King and the other was headed north on Taylor. The collision occurred when the Taylor-bound fire truck hit the one traveling through MLK. This prompted it to spin and turn on its side. Also, aside from the MLK-bound truck, the northbound fire truck ended up damaging another car as well. Although the accident seemed to be catastrophic, the eight firemen on board were lucky enough to escape with only minor injuries.
Since the footage of the two trucks colliding was filmed by a red light camera installed in the intersection, state officials are now wondering who was able to get a copy of the video and had it uploaded on YouTube. Officials were hoping to have the investigation done prior to something like this happening. One official who has expressed displeasure over the leaked footage is Director of Public Safety, Charles Bryson. He did reiterate though that this video can be used as a training tool to further educate their rescue units.
Before the accident occurred, both fire trucks were on their way to Newstead and Aldine where a building was reportedly on fire.
