Dear Diary,

Today was simply divine!  Mr. You Know Who took me to a very exclusive luncheteria for quiet conversation, mango spinach salad, and Manhattans!

We were having such fun, it turned executive and I had to play catch up all afternoon!

It was so worth it!

It’s going to be difficult choosing between him and Tony on Saturday nights, but I think I can manage!

Things are pretty much status quo at the agency.  Although our client has issued a challenge to Ex, in legal….or is it computers?  I can never keep track of all the hard working people here.  They are all so truly magnificent!

Why, I had only been at my desk a scant fifteen minutes this morning, when I found Ms. Torial desk side, with one of her divine coffee concoctions!

And Junie is, of course, the most fabulous friend and junior editor ever!

But I digress; this literary competition will be the talk of the town!

I insisted that it be kept G rated, naturally.  I’m thinking, that each writer should prepare at least paragraph or two, the beginning of an outer space adventure novel which will be a combination of the Da Vinci Code and 2001 a Space Odyssey, but without the Blue Danube, of course.

Oh the mystery of it all!  Will Ex prevail?  Will our client remain lucid?

Will it be a civilized game of literary chess, or more of a literary hockey brawl?

Stay tuned diary!

hmmmm Paige darling, I do believe it will be quite interesting to see if the client can manage to write with only one personality.

Another coffee sweety? I need one myself I'm positively shagged after my weekend away.

Love one!  But I simply can't!
I'd be up all hours, and then where would I be manana?

Sensative.. okay I shall just poor you a lovely little cognac (15 yr old)... make sure you warm it in your hands before you swallow the whole thing, you'll be asleep in no time!

A Dan Brownesque mystery in space? Sounds kinda fun, really. Contemporary or really out there? The paragraph you want - just a summary, right?
  • PaigeLe'Editor said on Oct 21, 2008....
    Thanks awfully Lu, darling!

Ex, I suppose it doesn't matter how far out there you go, and it doesn't have to be a summary.  It could be the opening paragraph of the novel.

I think, to be fair, I'll post them both on my blog.  A new post, of course, and then we'll vote!

To be even fairer, you can pm me the paragraphs, and I'll post them without names attatched, so no one will be biased!

Remember grammar and spelling count because I won't edit!  So the work will stand or fall on it's own!

    Are we agreed?
  • PaigeLe'Editor said on Oct 21, 2008....
    I have Ex's submission!
    We're just waiting for Hottips4u!
  • junioreditor said on Oct 22, 2008....
We may be waiting quite a while, Dear. It seems our Client has gone with another house.
BB has been so involved with Bambi and her Bambinos, he neglected to inform legal that Client's contract was coming up for renewal.
Client has flown the proverbial coop.

  • PaigeLe'Editor said on Oct 23, 2008....
....And I was so looking forward to this intellectual competition.

Ah well, I'm sure we'll have a new client before Ms. Torial can get me a fresh cup of java!
  • Expendable said on Oct 23, 2008....
It could have been fun. Oh well. Could have been a fun flash fiction contest. ^_^

Honestly, Dear Ones, I don't think our Client has one more good story left in him.  I've said it before, but I never get tired of saying it:
    He's a has-been of the highest degree.
We are fortunate to be shod of him.
He was only trouble from the day BB found him lying in the gutter in his own vomit.
Why? Why did BB take him on?
Because he had readers once upon a time?
He burned those bridges long before BB befriended him.
Everyone here tried to help him, but he spurned our offers.
I pity his new editors and publisher.

  • Expendable said on Oct 25, 2008....
The client has played this game before, threatening to leave to get more out of BB. What I don't get is why BB plays along with it? What is it about the client he likes so much? *sigh* Face it girls, we're stuck with him.
  • Lucytorial said on Oct 25, 2008....
I have a feeling BB has grand plans for client.  By that I don't mean grand as in baby grand piano, audience applauding the gradneaur of clients writing prowess.

I mean grand as in ohh how delicious to see that finally happen.
  • Expendable said on Oct 26, 2008....
It didn't take me a lot of research to find that the core of this latest submission  was copied directly out of a Wikipedia article on spamdexing, links and all, but then the client puts their own name afterwards. What is it they're trying to say here? It's very vague.
  • junioreditor said on Oct 27, 2008....
And why is he saying it at all?
    To what purpose?
I'm very sure no one cares in the least....do we all agree?
We already suspect the Client is...umm...mentally unwell, in all his identities.
Doesn't this latest submission verify our suspicions?

  • PaigeLe'Editor said on Oct 27, 2008....
    What is that I hear?
The sound of a thousand crickets singing the praises of silence.

    It's dead around here!
What do you say to lunch at Barnaby's?
    Executive, naturally!
  • junioreditor said on Oct 27, 2008....
Lovely!  If we can't get paid to edit, we'll get paid to eat!
  • Expendable said on Oct 27, 2008....
Client has SoulCast confused with a scraper site - I bet it has to do with both using Google Adsense. I'd try correcting them but they always get upset with me when I point out they're wrong - could be why they refuse to listen to a 'computer geek' from the basement anymore - I'm too lowly. LOL

Scraper sites don't bother with subscribers or creating their own content (they scrape it from someplace else). SoulCast is a blogging site where users put in their own content. Some of them are spammers, yes - but that's Spamblogging, not Scraping.

I can't get away for the moment, can you bring me back something nice? Ta!
  • PaigeLe'Editor said on Oct 28, 2008....
Darling Ex!  Did you get the take out, we took out for you?
    We hope you enjoyed it!
Where shall we all dine this PM?

By the by, have you seen?
Our client has once again returned, after a non absence!
    How predictable!

    Let's lunch now darlings!  It's all on B. B.!
