A Shaman's look at the symbolism of the current presidential candidates.  A must read.  A shaman takes a look at what the candidates represent.. in ourselves and in our society.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on this (please comment only after reading the article).

kruu- I read with interest, but what I found provocative was the second article. I found substance in statements like 'when we look (at our leaders) , we are looking at a part of ourselves'.

'We can argue and point fingers and proclaim who is right or wrong, who is a better leader or who is a moron, but in the end it is ourselves we are talking about.'

Or, 'If we did not have such contempt for ourselves we would select good and competent leaders.'

One example of why I like what this says is listening to my friends who have said many times about the US over war, trashing the environment, and other items, "Look at what we have done".

beyond: Yes, I believe that principle applies to every aspect of life.. not just politics.  In brief.. if you spot it, you've got it.  I know this to be true for myself, because the things about other people that affect me on a visceral level are definitely the things that I despise about myself.  It's not always so easy to see it at first... especially in extreme cases... taking GW as a case in point.. I've never ordered bombs to be dropped on anyone, but I do have an anger and rage inside of me that is capable of horrible things.  I also keep myself ignorant of certain things if I don't want to deal with it.  On taking responsibility for the state of the world and our part in it vis a vis the part that our nation takes in world politics and business, I quite agree that we are all part of the problem.  Sometimes it feels overwhelming to try to keep up with what is going on in the world, and if feels so much easier just to turn the running of the world over to someone who wants to be our "leader," but we mustn't put on our blindfolds as we are being led, and we shouldn't choose leaders who will take us in a direction that we don't want to go in.

This material is from the Michael teachings. I have written a little about Michael here. Jose Stevens is an author on this subject. Basically it is saying that the two Republican candidates are "young", Palin being a king and McCain a warrior, and that the two Democratic candidates are "mature", Biden a warrior, Obama a priest. Elsewhere in the Michael teachings it says that Republicans in general are young and toddlers, while Democrats in general are mature and old. America is a young country. I can see Palin as a king, Obama as a priest, and the other two as warriors, so I agree with the article. The ages of course are not referring to their current chronological age, but to the age of their souls, meaning that Obama and Biden have lived many more lives than the younger souls have, and are therefore more mature.

7:  Thanks for your input.  So, you have heard of Jose Stevens before?  I just got a link to this article from someone in my acting class.  I'd never heard of him before.  But it's an interesting way to look at things, and may explain why we have chosen the leaders that we have.

Interesting stuff and it has a ring of truth to it. I think I'm inclined to agree with his assesment of the rope that everyone tried to shore up and that has snapped and that there is change coming and that people have to be open to it and stop looking to go with the status quo as it has done nothing for us and has to pass for a new foundation of government. I just wish others could be open to this. People are so hard to except change until they see the benefits of it or are forced to.

Ha. That whole thing could be boiled down to you are what you hate. Two-bit
    psychology, if you ask me.

If we did not have such contempt for ourselves we would select competent
and good leaders, the one’s we deserve. They may not be perfect and may
not be able to solve all the problems but they would certainly inspire us and
        help us to work together.

Well, the is some truth to that in this election cycle. Who the heck decided on
these two guys: a liberal (McCain) and a socialist (Obama)?

Republicans in general are young and toddlers, while Democrats in general
        are mature and old.

ha ha ha ha ha. That could not be further from the truth. The Republican is
made up, for the most part, of older, more experienced, and mature people.
The Democrat party caters to the young and people who hate authority in
general--people who are not mature and just want their way about everything.

it [that article] has a ring of truth to it

Not at all. Just a bunch of mumbo jumbo that you might agree with if you are
and immature liberal Democrat. Rehashed pop psychology at best.

God help us all if we base any of our decisions on this sort of poppycock. Does
a mature man sit in a church for 20 years and listen to racist bullcrap? I think
not. I know I would not.

ALIEN:  "Ha. That whole thing could be boiled down to you are what you hate. Two-bit psychology, if you ask me."  Maybe, but sometimes the simplest things in life are the truest.  Think about your own personal life and some of the people who really get under your skin.  What is it about them that irks you the most?  Now, take a good, close look at yourself.  Are you sure you don't see any of these qualities in yourself? Maybe something that you hate so much that you've tried to repress it?  I know this to be true from myself, and I've discovered some ugly truths about myself by training myself to look at things this way, but the good news is that this gives me the freedom to change the things I don't like about myself.

"ha ha ha ha ha. That could not be further from the truth. The Republican ismade up, for the most part, of older, more experienced, and mature people. "  The "maturity" that the author is talking about is not chronological age, but spiritual maturity based on the lifespan of the soul and the experience of previous lives.  From your comment on my Aslan post, I know you don't believe in reincarnation, so I don't expect you to accept that, but that is the gist of the article.

"Just a bunch of mumbo jumbo that you might agree with if you are and immature liberal Democrat."  Now, now, let's not get into name calling.  That's not very mature, is it?  :)

makes perfect sense to me. I often ponder the great differances between dems and reps. Their looks even differ greatly. I can usually tell what party someone is just by looking at them. It seems there will always be the old and the young and the in between. Souls that is. A good thing to keep in mind. Now I can quit telling Reps. to get brain scans to find out whats wrong.
