Well, it's not every day you wake up without the use of your legs. Strictly speaking, I went to bed without the use of my legs, and things got no better overnight. I'd been in A&E on Wednesday night after having severe abdominal pains, panicing, hyperventilating and putting two and two together and coming up with the 'five' of 'cardiac trouble'. Family history and all that...
Upon arrival at A&E, all seemed fine with the ticker, but I was getting twitches in my legs which four hours later had turned into a distinct inability to stand or walk very well. The A&E doctor was at a loss, but as it seemed to be getting better, I was happy to go home and see what happened. One taxi ride later I managed to get up the stairs to the flat before my legs gave out again and still weren't working in the morning. Crawling was okay, but standing and walking weren't.
I was in Warrington A&E by 10am, and possibilities were quickly being eliminated. Since it would appear to be a neurological issue, I'm now in the stroke unit having spent most of the last three days in the excellent care of the emergency unit.
Enough for now, the keyboard on this bedside unit is truly awful in a ZX81 stylee. Suffice to say I feel a lot better than I Iook, I'm in good hands, and I'm slowly getting mobility back in my legs. A diagnosis is as yet elusive, so watch this space.
