Some people can't bring themselves to vote black, even half-black Obama style.
Some dismiss McCain simply because in their minds he's "too old."
Others worry that Palin (or even Hillary) would have to wear a burka just to get respect in the Middle East. Who can take a woman seriously?
There's an ism against every major candidate. I'm starting to think that there are even more subtle isms at play than we suspect. Do we really almost always vote AGAINST others because of the isms and for the one who has the least "isms" in our individual minds?
Other isms I've noticed at work:
Gaffism - a prejudice against those who frequently make verbal errors (Biden)
Goofism - bias against the inadvertently goofy-looking (Guiliani)
Stiffism - hatred of the overly mannered and groomed (Romney)
Borism - a strong dislike for the excessively boring (Christopher Dodd)
Blessism - suspicion of those who frequently bless others (Huckabee)
Stupism - a blatant disrespect for the mentally challenged (Bush)
Dickism - lack of serious regard for anyone whose penis has been in the news (Clinton)
Blabism - hatred of those who are always giving everyone else advice (Oprah)
Schtickism - being fed up with overly cornball, dumbed down satire (Saturday Night Live)
Hypism - tired of news media claiming fake balance & fairness (Fox News, ABC)
These and still other isms are stopping all of us from evenly considering the ideas put forth by their inspirations.
Let us all adopt a spirit of "ismism" - the rejection of ismistic behavior - as we go forth deciding the fate of a nation.
Yeah, right.
