The page you were looking for no longer exists

its just an observation really, just something ive picked up on everytime i've logged into Soul Cast. there's always the most popular blogs, that have up to 50 or more comments! and i read the title's an sure, some seem interesting, even enough so that i will read part of it, but they don't need my comment. they have 50 some others, for me i tend to search or scroll down the list to see who has the leasts amount of comments and then makeone. i almost feel bad for those who have less comments, it just doesn't make sense to me.

once again just an observation-

you can never really tell what posts will get attention and which won't here.....all you can do is blog what's on your mind, and toss it out to cyberspace and see what happens.

hi dreamloser. i notice this too, as a curious phenomenon that seems to follow some pattern, but i still can't put my finger on what triggers it. some type of posts are predictably "comment magnets," but sometimes you just can't say.

so, like secretlife, i tend to just blog away (when i have time...), comment here and there on posts that i like to react on, although like you (and again, like secretlife), i also make sure to spend some time to check out the newer bloggers.

    Hi Dream.
Some people around here will tell you it's a secret conspiracy. LOL
But it's no mytsery to me.

You just have to get involved.

When you comment on another post, it gets your screen name out there and other blogger's get curious about who you are.
They'll go visit your blog and if they are interested in what you write, they will subscribe to you.  Once they do that, you posts pop up everytime they click on My Users.
So even if your posts don't make it to the front page, they can still find you easily.
It isn't easy to wade through pages 5 and up on SC.

    Now here's my theory.
The more comments you get the faster your page goes to the front page.
But they can't be just any comments.
If you comment on you own page, it only counts for 1/2, that also counts for any other screen names a person may have (I'm not saying you have another screen name, but a certain person here, has a lot of screen names to drive his/her post to the front pages).
If a more popular blogger comments on your post, it counts more.
Also, the number of different bloggers that comment count more.

    Does that make sense?

Certain people run around here leaving nasty comments on other posts and wonder why they aren't popular bloggers...............well, it's simple really.
It's all about making friends and writing well.

Now, you may see a few dopey posts on the front page and wonder how they got there........sometimes it's soemone using all of their alts, or sometimes it's just someone with a lot of friends, but  other times it's just merry
mayhem.  Sad to say, one of my dumbest posts is my most popular.
I was just being silly and having fun.  It took off, and before I knew it, I had a bazillion silly comments.
So, I guess you also have to get other people involved in your writing as well.

    I hope I've been helpful! :)

Picker...I agree with you...not only should you blog away, but you should also get out there and read other blogs.  Read the popular ones...read the less popular ones...it'll get your name out there, and if you're not being rude or distasteful people will begin to pay attention to you, thus bringing in comments.  I say this because it worked for me.  I think I posted two or three blogs just because I needed to rant, but I didn't go looking at any other blogs.  After that point, when I just wanted to get back on here to see if I'd had any comments but I didn't particularly have another blog to write...I decided to go ahead and look at some other blogs.  Before I knew it, just from commenting elsewhere...I began getting comments on my blogs.  Also, it seemed to really help to actually remember to write my intro blog.  I didn't think a thing about it until I saw somebody else do it.  It was one of those moments where I smacked myself in the forehead and went 'Duh!'  Also, perhaps of those blogs out there that don't get as many comments...some people don't necessarily want comments...they just need to rant...the comments are just a bonus to them.  But also, yes, write well.  I've only been here a couple of months but I can speak for myself in saying that if I think a title is catchy I'll decide to read it...but if the person blogging is not making sense, or seems immature, or even snippy I tend to quit reading.  So anyway, that's my two cents..now on to reading some other blogs, have a great day!

it's self reinforcing. Once a few people read and comment on a post it goes on the homepage which get it more attention and more comments. I don't really pay attention to the home page unless I'm bored. The 'my users' and 'my interests' tabs give me the posts I'm more likely to be interested in :)
