so i went to the doctor yesterday for a routine shoot related to this weird eye disease I have. In the process they scratched my cornea! I've had a lot of injuries and suffered through a lot of hardships while in the military. I don' think anything was as bad as the way I felt yesterday. As a result I'll probably be less active for a day or two and so many interesting things are happening that I want to write about :(

    bloc- In my younger years I was stacking some brick and a chip flew off and scratched my cornea. That was one of the most miserable evening and night I ever experienced. If this is any help, the next day it was much better.

    @beyond

    did they put a patch on your eye? If so, was the sharp discomfort gone while the patch was on?

    It's been about 24 hours and it's still very very uncomfortable. Much better than last night, but still very uncomfortable. I had the patch put on today and I was under the impression that the sudden sharp pain would stop, but it hasn't. If my eye moves in a certain way it still hurts like hell.

    thanks :)

    bloc- No, he didn't put a patch. He said there was nothing he could do and any movement of the eyeball, eyes closed or not, would produce pain.

    Yours must be worse than mine. I was a lot better in 24 hours.

    Ouch!  That has got to be one of the most sensitive parts of the body.  I thought they could give you something that is essentially like novocaine drops?  They gave you nothing for it?

    I watched someone welding when I was in H.S. (against advise!) didn't think it would do anything......boy was I wrong! I had blisters on what I am assuming was my cornea....but I am not sure......they hurt for about three days.

    Good luck for a speedy recovery!

    the excruciating pain is gone so I'm doing much better, but it's still extremely uncomfortable.

    you know if you go ot starbucks and they fuck up your order them compensate you with free coupons or something. If you go to the doctor and they fuck up your eye they make you come back and pay more co-pays. Something isn't right here.

    bloc- Auto repair shops do that too. If they don't get it right the first time, try, try, again and you pay for every one.

    Oh my - I know exactly how painful that is!  If the pain is still as bad tomorrow, it may be worth going back and asking if they can prescribe a good pain relieving cream and tablets like I had.

    A few years ago one July I rescued a very weak baby rook from the grounds where I work who had a gammy leg so kept falling over and damaged all his tail feathers (I checked what the best course of action was first with the RSPB first).  I nourished him back to health, built him an enormous avery and bird house LOL and kept him for nearly a year as they dont get new tail feathers until they malt the following June/July.  He was so loving and liked nothing more than sitting on my shoulder pecking away at my hair and glasses bless him.  One day, I took off my glasses to stop him pulling at them and, as i turned round to look at him his head moved forward and he pecked me right in the eye!  I said a little more than ouch ha ha!  The scratch to the Iris and cornea was more painful than any broken bones or operations I've had!  Even with the patch on, like you say, just the eyeball moving under the lid was excrutiating.  I even found that trying to keep the other eye open hurt the injured one.  Eventually I couldn't stand the pain that holding the other eye open gave so I have to wear a scarf round my eyes.

    I can sympathise with how andora felt as not being able to see just for a few days was really frightening even though I knew it was only temporary

    Even now, if that eye gets a little dry from air con, the eye becomes scratchy where the scar is.  We take our eyes for granted really don't we.

    I really do hope the pain subsides soon bloc and that there is no lasting damage.  Eyes to heal very well though.
