  So I'm still a bit sore about it.
   
  To clarify on 2.  I'm a proponent of make it all legal, and then sweep all of the drugs into existing Under the influence, and if you want make tier 1 and tier 2 and however many you want based on how strong the effects of the drug are and punish accordingly.  If someone wants to sit in their basement and do crack till their fucking eyes fall out I don't give a shit so long as they don't hurt hurt anybody.
   
  Honestly one thing that I would change in this country would be changing how lawsuits you would have to prove gross neglegance on the part of any medical staff when it results in injury or death.  Not just that they screwed up. I know there are bad doctors out there and they make a certain amount of mistakes but much of what goes wrong in medicine just happens.  One thing that it's hard to remember, especially when a doctor just fucked up on something is the simple truth of the situation.
   
  Medicine is practiced never perfected.

  suing everyone of them. I have not been to too many that I would call
  competitent recently, and it will only get worse when there is no financial
  encentive for the best and brightest. I dare say most doctors will not look 
  like you or talk like you when the socialists take over. Our health care will 
  also be farmed out to Indians. Yes, I do know what I am implying and I 
  say it from experience. If they were as well trained and proficient as U.S.
  doctors, they would not be working at Doc-N-The-Box.

  1.  Yeah you can, and the fact is that most people don't get that dangerously addicted to drugs.  That's sort of propaganda.  There are people with weak personalities, and people with strong personalities.  Not to mention our current system doesn't allow us to collect taxes and you know directly funds our enemies.  But that's ok too.  For the most part yeah we need to let people sink or swim, and being diagnosed as a drug addict should disqualify you for any aid.
   
  2.  Universal Health Care (as John McCain is proving) doesn't by definition remove the market incentive to be the best.  Or are you going to rationalize out that the government giving you 5000.00 dollar to spend as you see fit isn't socialism because you get to spend the money as you see fit and thus must be capitalis, instead of socialism since you know our tax dollars created those 5000.00 vouchers.

  Look im from Australia where we have - believe it or not - what you guys would call socialist or socialized health care and guess what.....No lawsuits downhere destroying the system! Also if you get cancer you dont have to sell your house to pay for treatment its all free. And finally if you think its bad for the economy check out our standing amongst the oecd nations and i think you'll find we are better placed to handle this economic crisis than you guys are - why? well a big part of the reason is because we have a strong welfare and health system which means people have more money to spend on things other than healthcare, which means they can consume more and prop up our economy. I Hope to god Obama wins for the worlds sake as well as your's, for too long economic rationalists (who have now been proven to be economically irrational) have ruled The U.S time for real social rationalists to prevail and bring sense to a sensless nation thats ruled by bigots from the midwest and south.

  RW3, I am from Canada and grew up in the UK, both of which have socialized medicine, now i am not sure how it is working in Austriala but the UK has supported a 2 tier system for years now and Canada is becoming a broke system, besides our tax rate (mine is currently 46%) we now pay a health care tax of 900.00 per person per year. having worked in the US, i much prefer the Canadian system but is in need of repair if it is to continue into the next decade.  As for lawsuits, while not common, they do occurr, and we did have the whole contaminated blood scandal here in Canada, which cost over 300 million in lawsuits. Salary caps for medical professionals do not work either, we tried that and close to 50% of my fellow medical professionals went south. maybe different in Austriala, but in Canada spend 6 years in med school, 2 years interning then have a government idiot tell you how much you will earn, add in our winter and you can see why some left to the more sunnier climes.

  ALIEN mostly hit the nail on the head here, the only significant thing to add here is that there is no reason why you can't have both UHC and a capitalism driven market.  I again mention that we have the post office AND UPS and FedEx and DHL (and there are numerous other local ones those are just the huge ones.)  We have public AND private schools.  Hell we even have a military AND Blackwater and various other Mercenaries.  The inclusion of one does not by definition eliminate the other.

Your arguments are weak and self serving our prime minister earns only about 300,000 a year in salery so doctors shouldn't earn that much more. In Australia its prestigious to be a doctor simply because your helping people. Of course the wage is reasonable but we dont place as much emphasis on financial reward but more on community reward, you could learn a thing or two by that...but then again you are living in the most selfish country in the world and as wall street has just proven extreme capitalism doesn't work what will it take for you to wake up to this fact, and it is a fact!!!!
