Quote: "The torture techniques deployed against anyone George W. Bush unilaterally labeled an enemy combatant drove some of them insane"
Complete lie. There have been hundreds of investigations into every aspect of President Bush's foreign policy and to this date no-one as found any evidence of torture that can be substantiated by hard facts.
Quote: "A U.S. military officer warned Pentagon officials that an American detainee was being driven nearly insane by months of punishing isolation and sensory deprivation in a U.S. military brig, according to documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union and provided to The Associated Press..."
Pathetic ploy for emotion. If isolation is torture then every day we are torturing our own citizens in prison. Prisoners who have been set free and returned to the battlefield to kill more people and have claimed they lied to deceive prison guards and interrogators. In this whole article there is zero context as to who what when and why with any of these prisoners. Prison sucks, if you don't want to end up in prison don't practice terrorism.
Quote: "This was not even in Gitmo. It was in a military brig in Norfolk, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina, where the torture occurred on American soil and even against an American citizen, Jose Padilla. Many decent people in the armed forces resisted Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld, but they couldn't stop them"
Another flat out lie. Once again investigation after investigation and all these accusations of torture and NOTHING. During the investigations of Abu Graib certain soldiers were given commendations for blowing the whistle on treatment they didn't agree was right. Notice once again how Sullivans article contains no sources, no substantiated facts, just supposed gossip from un-named people.
I encourage people to read the Daily Dish by Andrew Sullivan. They will see it shows how parts of the media have become nothing more than a machine of lies. Ask Sullivan to prove any of the stuff in his article. He can't because this whole issue is not about torture or treatment of detainees, it is about a political agenda. A political agenda taken on by scum like Sullivan, Greenwald, the ACLU, MSNBC, and many others. As I've said before, thank God most Americans aren't as stupid as Sullivan thinks they are.
