when we were young we have so many pets in iloilo...
we have pigs, chickens, dogs, cats (well technically they weren't our pet cuz most of them are strays), ducks...
my grandfather, who is retired, used to take care some animals for more income...
he raised pigs and then sell them... will later becom lechon or roasted pig... but we stopped doing it cuz it was tedious taking care and cleaning after them... and the smell... i hated the smell...
he also raised some ducks and then sell the eggs used for balut ( a filipino exotic delicacy). but we stopped cuz someone is stealling from us. yes they stole our duck eggs...
until now we have some chickens... my grandmother loves the native chicken eggs... the best kind of eggs... did you know it oculd heal a lot of ailments if eaten raw? yuck i know but it cured my mother... and sometimes on special occasions we have those chickens for lunch.... imagine the delicious native chicken dishes like adobo, sinigang, etc...
and of course our dogs...
some come and go... some died by car accident... in front of our house is the highway and too many cars drive by...
and of course ciara...
ciara was our favorite so far... the most memorable dog in our household in iloilo...
i met ciara when my older brother brought her when i was 12 years old...
i find him a very cute puppy... she was half german and half askal. (askal means a street dog no particular breed at all, an ordinary dog).
she was an energetic dog when she was younger...
she seldom entered the house because my grandmother dont like it... and if she does i always shouted "gwa" which means out in hiligaynon.
and were lucky with her cuz she pooped on the garbage fill!!!!
in iloilo in our back yard we dug a big hole and that's were we throw our garbage. and that's where she poop!!! how convenient! my grandmother hated it when some dogs pooped on her bermuda grass...
and when i came home from shool she always greet me... i love those moments...
she gets scared during new years eve... that's the time she will go inside our house and hide under our bed! she is scared of the firecrackers!!! my grandmother didnt mind..
everybody loves ciara... when my grandparents play their mahjong or card games ciara would stay under the table and sleep... no one minds...
and she knows if a stranger especially someone who has ill intention upon us would enter the house... she would growl at them with this kind of growl where she is ready to attack... does she does this to every stranger? nope... only to those who have bad aura... you see if a good person (the ones who are postive and has good intentions like my grandparents friends and some neighbors) she would simply ignore them... but other wise she would growl at them...
and sometimes at night when the dogs are barking... you know where are series of barks are heard... i think they are communicating or something.... all the dogs in the neighborhood... ciara would seldom bark... and if she does not really that loud...
but if she barks really loudy... like so loud you would jump on your bed. we would jump in our beds and check outside... this means that there is trouble...
cuz one time she bark so loud we saw someone crawl from our fence!!! but ran off when he saw ciara!!!
puppies... oh you would love ciara's puppies!!! i think she gave birth more than six times in her life... we always gave away the puppies but the last time she gave birth we kept one...
after 8 years...
she died...
we really dont know the real reason... my grandpa said she is too old... it was sudden... all we know is that before she died she was okay... and then she died...
i remembered her son (the puppy we kept) kept smelling the place where she died and thn kept howling... i guess he knows his mom died...
i cried when ciara died... she was my favorite dog... she gave us unconditional love and protection... i guess she's in dog heaven now... (dont laugh but i believe in one)...
her son also died after a few months... hit by a car.. ciara also went out of the house but is smart not to cross the road...
we had some few dogs after that.... the last one we gave it to a relative who lives in the fields... they needed a dog more... plus my grandma hates it when the dog chased the chickens.
but we always remember ciara...
sometimes unintentionally we mention her in our conversations... i guess he memory still lives on with us...
for now here in manila were okay with our dogs... purple is still cute... and i think pregnant again... yeah she's a bitch...lol...
well that's my story about my memorable dog ciara...
do you have a childhood pet you still cheerish in your memories???
keep on blogging!!!
