Well, apparently Volkswagen can. That’s why the company is working on having this new Beetle launched as soon as the second generation Beetle is released in the United States in 2011. So what will the new Beetle pickup look like? Well, if you can’t picture it in your head, here’s an idea for you. It could actually look like pickup concept Volkswagen unveiled at the 2008 IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover, Germany.
While the concept looks unique, I wonder how people, especially pickup enthusiasts, will receive this vehicle once it’s released. As we all know, most pickups tend to carry a fierce and rugged looking front that will make you want to run away from it. If this new Beetle follows the design of the Volkswagen concept, you might end up running over to hug it instead. Although I don’t have any problems with driving around in a cute (some might even say “girly”) pickup, some might find it a little bit weird.
So why is Volkswagen planning to pull a stunt like this? Well, just so it can increase its annual vehicle sales to one million by 2018. And now, this figure isn’t for its worldwide market. This is just for the U.S. market alone. So since Volkswagen is aiming to increase its U.S. sales, you can expect the company to have its pickup concept released in the United States.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if this new Beetle pickup will actually make it big in the U.S. If it doesn’t, it at least was able to inject a little bit of spice into the pickup world.
