These are definitely troubling times in the U.S.A.
Our financial markets are crumbling.
Our leaders are selling out left and right (pun intended)
Our borders are porous and relatively unprotected.
Our people are divided and polarized politically.

Is Americas ship sinking?

Can we fix the financial market?

Will all of the people responsible for the financial crisis be brought to justice?

Will we secure our borders and demand respect for them?

Will our people ever become relatively united?

Would you like to see a third major political party? Or should we make political parties illegal?

I'm not sure what the impact will be but word is its not enough to save the US economy? Means a whole lot of other markets are going with ya.

The problem is that they don't actually have 700 billion to do this, so they basically have to print it up.......so we will experience some pretty rapid inflation and devaluation of the American dollar......they say that the money will be paid back, but history has shown us that our politicians don't keep their word, and our attention span is quite short.....so I doubt that it will......there will also be some people getting very rich on the transactions about to take place......whenever this kind of money changes hands in America, there is always someone there to skim some off the top.

d6- I think there are hard times ahead economically through inflation. It looks lengthly to me. And we do not need to start another war. We borrowed to pay for the two we have.

You're right, politicians aren't going to change (left or right) so we will just have to struggle through somehow as we always have. I think maybe two or three financial people will be brought to justice, but not many more than that.

There's no reason to make parties illegal even if you could. They would still form groups within themselves to have power structures. I could envision four, two from each existing party. But I'm just playing with words here.

Well, I for one am glad they passed that sucker!  If there's one thing America needs right now, it's wooden arrows, rum, and NASCAR!

Its not all doom and gloom.  We are in a bad slump.  When we reach the lowest point things will go back up.  Once all these foreclosed houses get sold the housing market will be back to normal as will the stock market.

We are strong country, things will change, suck it up.

Is Americas ship sinking?  No.  Maybe someday later but this isn't it.

Can we fix the financial market?  Yes, the question is will we, not can we and that is a matter of convincing people that what happened was really that bad.  What happened here was stopped (probably rightfully) before it actually effected the common man and as a result we'll forget it come January because really NOTHING HAPPENED.  Nothing we felt, nothing that will leave a lasting memory.

Will all of the people responsible for the financial crisis be brought to justice?  No.  The overwhelming majority didn't do anything illegal.  We set rules and the owners played within them.  It's like crying that some guy kicked you in an MMA match.  It's not boxing, it's not wrestling, its MMA.  If you wanted boxing you should have said so at the begining.

Will we secure our borders and demand respect for them?  No, simply because it's near impossible.  Hopefully we'll take steps towards alleviating the problem but the real solution doesn't lie at the border.  It lies at the employer.  Slam him until it's no longer worth the risk to work outside the box and the problem will solve it's damnsellf.

Will our people ever become relatively united?  We are relatively united.  Since you obviously mean MORE united it's unlikely and this comes more from the right than the left though it's not like the left is overly friendly.  A nice place to start would be getting the the left to stop accusing the right of being blood suckers robbing the poor and giving to themselves.  But then the right would hae to stop calling the left baby killers.

Would you like to see a third major political party? I hope not.  You think the public was pissed off with Bush becoming president with 49.9% of the popular vote wait until Arnold wins with 33.4% of the popular vote because had a third party.

Or should we make political parties illegal?  I'm not certain how you could accomplish such a thing and I doubt the end result would be positive if you accomplished such a thing.

"We set rules and the owners played within them."

We didn't set any rules.  Congress and their wealthy pals set the rules.  Then, when the scam came apart Congress voted themselves and their wealthy pals out of the problem on the backs of the middle class taxpayers.

This bailout is bullshit.  But at least now I can laugh in the face of those who tout capitalism, free market and 'personal responsibility.'  What a bunch of hypocrites.

We elected Congress, seriously stop trying to parse details.

And actually no you really can't laugh at the people who tout capitalism over this anymore  than they can laugh at you and many many many of them were against the the bail out.

When the capitalists--who are forever telling poor people that they're poor because they lack responsibility--come crying for a government bailout after decrying the evils of socialism, then yes, I can laugh in their faces the next time they dare suggest that capitalism is some kind of superior system that rewards those who work hard.  The people it seems to reward the most are the ones who get to buy the laws.

Kelly there is good and bad in every system, our system has far more good than bad about it.  Buck up little camper :>

Cutting our noses off to spite our faces?...
King Dennis gives you the truth for a change. The bailout sucks. I wish I could share his belief that Congress would do something about it if it could. I see Congress as utterly corrupt, and I see King Dennis as the only godly man in it....
