What am I the only friggin' blood-filled human being on this planet??? I don't get a mosquito bite for at least 10 years and all of a sudden it's like  "Get in the car mosquito kids...we're going to the Twyla drive-thru for take-out."
AARRGGHH!! I have 6 bites on one arm!

ever heard of the "west nile virus" caused by the bites? What a thrill!

Mosquitos love me.  I used to think it was because I was sweet.  Now I'm thinking it's because they want to kill me.
  • woman said on Oct 01, 2008....
Twyla~ditch the cigarettes AND the mosquitoes. Here's the reason. I enjoy reading your posts and your comments and I don't want you to suffer from the results of either of those nasty things.
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Lol...maybe I should just set fire to the mosquitoes!
It's sure not because I'm sweet, Uni...I'm the female Mobil since I quit smoking!
Aww, Woman...now, you are sweet! No, I'll never smoke again. I keep 3 packs of cigarettes in a drawer, just to play mind games with myself. If they're in there, I can tell myself I'll have one later. I don't actually have one, but then it's more like my decision, you know? It's not because I quit, it's because I don't feel like having one now, does that make sense?
When someone asks me when I quit, I answer "40 pounds ago."

What I want to know is why are there mosquitoes in my house in friggin' OCTOBER???
  • woman said on Oct 01, 2008....
LOL. That's why I like you Twyla. You are funny. I wish I had something to blame the 10 I've gained on!! And Twyla, I DO understand the whole mind game thing. Does that make TWO sick puppies?
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Woman~ I've lived with this mind for almost all of my 59 years. I say almost because I've lost it on more than a few occasions. And yet, I can still manage to fool it every once in a while.
That sounds like a great  opening line for a post, doesn't it?
Feel free to use it if you'd like...I can't think of anything else to say.
  • mobil said on Oct 01, 2008....
Dump the smokes Twillie and take vitiman B, the mosquitoes don't like your skin when you take vitiman B and wear a white shirt, they don't like white either.
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
How come they don't touch my husband? He sits 10 feet behind me, all smug and unbitten. I haven't smoked in 8 and 1/2 months, Mobil. Pretty good, huh? I think the vampire mosquitoes like my newly smoke-free blood.
    I take a multi-vitamin with B...does that count?
  • pickersplock said on Oct 01, 2008....

This works really well and it has sunscreen also!
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Thanks, P. I bookmarked it. At first I thought it repelled bullfrogs, which would be great, too because there's this one that sits outside my patio doors every night when I come home from work and it just won't move. I guess I'm not the scary Twyla I think I am.
Whew, Mobil...I thought you were gonna blow a fuse because I said I was the "female Mobil since I quit smoking..."  ha ha.          Ha ha ha.           Ha ha....is he still looking?
  • Lucytorial said on Oct 01, 2008....
Mobil ~ Such a smart man.

Twyla  I could send you some vegemite?? full of B12.  Actually here in the tropics we got mozzies and sand flies... I never get bitten cause I have heaps of Vitamin B (group) in my blood.
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Ach, I hate sand flies. I leave near the beach, so they're in my garden. We have no-seeums, too. Nasty things that attack your scalp as soon as you step outside. I'll have to buy vitamin B. Just plain B?
  • Lucytorial said on Oct 01, 2008....
No B12, mozzies don't smell your blood, B12 leaches out through the skin masking your scent to them.. its a chemical thing.. weird but it works!
  • Battycat said on Oct 01, 2008....
We have nasty midges here, they eat your scalp as well :-(
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
I think that's what the no-seeums are, Batty...midges. They're called no-seeums because you really can't see them.  Feel them, oh yeah! But not see them.
  • mobil said on Oct 01, 2008....
Yes Lucy is right it's B12 and I am proud of you Twillie on the quit smoking gig, it's a tough on to tame.
  • CayenneMan said on Oct 01, 2008....
Sure I believe in and support the Red Cross but now I think they've gone a little too far !
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
    Uh huh. I'm lost.
  • Jenna said on Oct 01, 2008....
Twyla.....I think it is our blood.....I can sit outside with ten people and no one gets bit but me.  Spiders like me , ocean flies and bees too.....I really think they are attracted to the sweetness of our blood.  LOL...that is my uneducated hypothosis. and I am sticking to it.
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Oh jeez..I get it! Duh, 6 minutes later. Red Cross...lol!
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
And Palmetto bugs! I try to walk around them, they race toward me. Bees and wasps head right for me, stupid tree frogs jump at me! What do I look like..a roach motel??
  • RollingC said on Oct 01, 2008....
Ever hear of the product   "  Skin so Soft  "  by Avon ?  It really works.  Learned that after one Hurricane and now I keep a bottle in the house.   Don't have to put a lot and you can water it down some to make it last longer but it works like a charm repelling the mosquitoes.
And I vouch for this message. !

    Rc
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Rolling~ and it still works if you water it down?  I only ask because I don't like the smell of Skin So Soft, although people swear by it as a mosquito repellent.

Jenna~ it's so nice to see you.  I don't know the answer, but even flying bugs, butterflies, for God's sake, bump into me as they're flying!  I'll go along with the sweet blood,  since it happens to you, too, but I still think it's because I don't smoke.
Can you tell I want to smoke?   Lol!

Cman~ I do believe they took too much blood this last time and it's causing me to miss jokes.  That's not good.  Two more bites on the same arm, but I set the a/c on 65. If I can't swat 'em, I'll freeze 'em!

Mobil~ I'm pretty proud of myself, too, at times. Other times I think I must have been crazy to quit. It's almost 9 months, but I'm still not over it.

    Lulu~ Vegamite.  Hmm.  No.
  • CayenneMan said on Oct 01, 2008....
Since the Red Cross put the mosquitos on the payroll things have gotten much worse. Yes RollingC I've heard of that I know people who swear by it.
  • gingersoul said on Oct 01, 2008....
Twyla....ahemm.....are you going to swap me like one of those nasty mosquitoes if i tell you i didnt have ONE single ONE mosquito bite this summer? First time evah.....And i live in Texas...land of humongous flying insects....

    And i don't smoke.

In Italy we use basil....lots and lots of basil plants in the house to keep these babies away ....it works better than citronella...
Give it a try and if doesn't do the magic....well..you can always chop the basil and eat it..
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Gasp!!  That's the only way I know to denote shock.
Gasp!! I forgot about basil! My grandmother used to keep sprigs of fresh basilico on the windowsill to dry out, and to keep bugs away.  It used to grow in the cracks in the concrete in the back yard of the cold-water flats we lived in.
See? This is what happens when an Italian moves from Jersey to the Land of No Ethnicity.  Tsk.  Thanks, Ginger!

My wife and I went outside to greet one of the neighbours the other week. We came back in, me same as I was when I went out, my wife six bites on her ankles. Maybe your hormones have changed and you are now a delicatessen for mozzies.
  • Lucytorial said on Oct 01, 2008....
Hotcakes ~ Thats not such a strange idea..... Twyla the magically scented Mozzie girl... at least you know something's getting turned on by your natural aroma!
  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Hah! Lucky me, yeah? When I was young and beautiful I attracted old geezers and  squeaky-voiced teenage boys. Now it's bugs.
  • hotaka said on Oct 01, 2008....
So what do you prefer? Guys who leave their teeth when they bite or bugs that leave with your blood? Or is it the teenage boys that you prefer?
  • gingersoul said on Oct 01, 2008....
    Hottie.........what a silly question...for me.....sinking teeth, of course..
On the side of my neck and on the Mount of Venus of my hands...oh yes.....:-)

  • Twylarants said on Oct 01, 2008....
Oh, the bugs, definitely. At least I can kill them.
  • hotaka said on Oct 01, 2008....
    Legally.
  • hotaka said on Oct 01, 2008....
ginger, don't get me thinking of your Mounds of Venus. I'd need wipe the drool of the floor after.
  • starchini said on Oct 02, 2008....

  • queenparanoia said on Oct 03, 2008....

  • RollingC said on Oct 03, 2008....
I'm confused...Mounds of Venus or Mount or Venus....are you making a mountain out of a mound ? .........and you got your hands on it ?
And then rub bananas on your arms then stick 'em in your pockets ?
Are you guys starting a Voodoo ritual ?
*goes to get some more coffee*
