When it comes to inflating your tires, would you prefer nitrogen or ordinary air? This is one of the popular questions among car owners. While some would tell you that you can get by with the use of ordinary air, some would argue that a nitrogen filled tire will benefit you more. So which one is actually better?

According to some people, nitrogen is a better choice because it’s more environment-friendly. Why is that? Well, compared to a tire that’s been filled with ordinary air, a tire that’s filled with nitrogen doesn’t leak air quickly. So your tire’s reduced pressure doesn’t cause it to burn too much fuel, which can be harmful to the environment. At the same time, it helps boost your vehicle’s fuel efficiency, allowing you to save more on gas. Even institutions like Get Nitrogen Institute, a non-profit organization based in Denver, says that tires that don’t use nitrogen tend to waste fuel more and contribute to global warming.

But on the flipside, there are those who believe that ordinary air is just as good as nitrogen. Why is that? Well, that’s because ordinary air is made up of a good portion of nitrogen. About 78 percent to be exact. So if that’s the case, why spend more to have your car filled with nitrogen when the bulk of ordinary air is already made up of nitrogen, right?

At the end of it all, I guess the use of nitrogen or ordinary air borders down on one thing: preference. If you advocate the use of nitrogen because your vehicle performs better and you have spare cash on hand, then go for it. Otherwise, if your car runs properly on just ordinary air, then keep on using that for your tires. Just make sure though to do one thing. Regardless of whether you use air or nitrogen, be sure to have the pressure of your tires checked regularly. Not only will it make your vehicle more fuel efficient, it will also keep you from having to stop in the middle of the road to change a flat tire.
