Who's reading FunctionalForm (2):
As emo as that title sounded, what I mean to talk about is that I haven't been able to sleep in about a month, due to sometimes severe pain in my wrist and numbness in my hands. See my previous post on RSI for more info. Anyway, I've tried everything I can think of to deal with the pain so that I can sleep, but to no avail. Nothing over-the-counter works, heavy drinking relaxes me but I still can't sleep for more than an hour or two at a time (and I don't really want to get in the habit of that), ice does diddly-squat, and I've HAD IT!!! My head hurts all the time and I feel completely useless at work. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it? Is there anything that works? Help!

I have found that short of prescription drugs...nothing forces the body to sleep while in pain. I have used meditation to help supplement lack of sleep though.

Your physician should have something they can give you for the sleep deprivation. There are plenty of mild sedatives that do not disrupt ones ability to waked quickly or in less than eight hours.

Thanks, LG - I think you're right. While I'd rather not rely on drugs, I may have to for a while. I once had a bad experience with asking a doctor for pain meds when I was in a lot of pain (after sinus surgery) and she denied me because I was poor and no longer had insurance, and somewhere in her brain she was *sure* I was either going to sell the drugs or become an addict. Needless to say, I haven't gone back to her, but I still feel hesitant to ask for any prescription pain meds from a doctor, even though it's a perfectly valid request. I live in Seattle, so I might just drive up to Canada and get some Tylenol with codeine, which I believe is over the counter there.

I just sent for the book you noted here. I've been suffering from what I assumed was carpal tunnel for the past 3 months. My left hand is almost always somewhat number. My right one comes and goes.

I haven't been to a doctor because I frankly have had enough of doctors.

I bought a brace which helped a little, but I work all day on the computer.

I guess I'll read the book and see if anything clicks...

Hypnotherapy can be used in many ways to help remove or ease pain from a sufferer. A small amount of pain is necessary to prevent further injury or a misdiagnosis. This article looks at some of the ways pain can be treated with hypnosis....
