The page you were looking for no longer exists

I went to Walmart yesterday to get some pictures developed from my memory card.  I go there a lot.  My grandson wanted the pictures of his puppy and so didn't I.  I did the usual touch screen here, enter this push that bla bla....

The first machine I tried, I couldn't get passed the screen where it showed you where to put your card.  I gave up and moved over to the second machine.  I started from the beginning once again.  I got as far as where I started printing my name etc... and it stopped became blank for a moment and then said please remove your memory card.  I did.

I started again, and finally got it loaded only to notice all the pictures I wanted to get printed were gone.  Yes GONE.  No puppy pics, no moon picture, no pictures of my nephew with his dog either....... all gone.

I kept looking and scrolling like they were going to magically appear I guess.  I finall came to the conclusion I was seeing the truth...... GONE.

I pulled the card out and told the girl behind the counter that these machines were not working right.  She looked at me like I had two heads.  She said "you can't pull your card out because you may loose your pictures"  No shit!!!  I took it out cause it TOLD me to.

I am so very glad I didn't have something very important on there like wedding photos or graduation... you know a one time shot!  (like the moon one)
I went back by the machines later to see if she had put a sign on them.......nope.  I hope no one else lost any important photos that day.

So, this taught me that from now on, I will put the pics on a disc and bring the disc to the store.  I am glad I do have the pictures I lost on my computer so I can do just that!

That would so frustrating, quietone!  That was good thinking to save them on your computer before you went to have them developed.  I probably wouldn't have thought to do that and I would have been sunk.

Last week I tried printing my own off here at home and it worked pretty well.  I saved each picture that I wanted to print and then copied them into a Word document.  Then I loaded some photo paper.  I had sheets of photos that I could cut out. It was a little extra work, but I got to be creative and play with them a bit.  That's always a plus for me.  :-)

CW ~ I have done that in the past.  I liked creating my own "thing" on  the computer as well.  but for simple printed pics, walmart is pretty cheap and I print a lot of pics.  I hardly ever use my printer thse days.

I think thats the best way to go, put them on disc and keep the originals on the memory card. I'm glad you did'nt loose the moon shot too.  If I were you I'd make a private disc just to put very special shots on and keep it in a safe. 15 cents a photo copy at Walmart ain't all that bad when you consider the price of printer ink. I don't know if somebody can download a virus to the Walmart machine or not but if they could that would suck. Have a nice day quietone.

    quietone,
It's a shame that the lady was so cavalier about your pictures being lost.

I hate when the customer service people give you the impression that you're the idiot when it's undoubtably their machine that screwed up.  To not put a sign on the machine is just another symptom of being apathetic to other people.  I'm glad it wasn't one of a kind photos lost.

Lately I've been using the flickr function to print photos.  You can send your pictures from flickr to Target and have them ready in 1 hour.  It's a little more at 20 cents a photo, but I don't have to carry any CD, thumb drives or memory cards so I am getting pretty attached to it.
