public trasportation...

here in the philippines most people dont have any cars. actually those who have cars still uses the public transportation... (the prices of the gas is so high!) and here are the common public transportatin in the philippines...

the LRT and the MRT (both are trains) are only found here in the capital, metro manila. these trains are always packed and the most convenient if you want a trafficless commute. heres an example of an LRT...

Photobucket

and like any other countries in the world we have buses and taxis. but what's so unique with our buses? sometimes there are buses that has television on it! so if youre having a long commute you could enjoy a movie or program...

Photobucket

and we also have the fx... yup it's a car..  we use it as a public transportation... it's better than the jeepney cuz it has aircondition but the fare is higher... it also range from different model of cars.... i guess the owner wants to earn from it so they use it as a public transportation...

Photobucket

and the famous "jeepney". the most common mode of transportation in the philippines. and unlike taxis it has routes like buses and fx. it's cheap and i admit when it's not crowded it's fun to ride in... ;-)

another common mode of transportation is the tricycle. it is made of one motorbike. the difference it has  from a jeepney is that the distance is limited when traveling... and a maximum of three or four people can ride it... depends if it has a back seat though...

Photobucket

trisikad is a mode of transportation here in the philipines that's made of a bike. it's not really common here in manila but back in the province you can see a lot of trisikad... and depending on the province i think they have a different name for it... it's fun and we use to have one. i have a pic of this with my sister but i can't find it. anyway the distance travel for this is the most limited cuz it's powered by people. it's like the rickshaw in china...

Photobucket

and lastly, well actually i dont know if there are more modes of public transportation here in the philippines but what i'm sharing you guys with are the most common. the kalesa. it is horse drawn carriage. it's not really common here only in the province and some parts of manila...

Photobucket

so these are the common modes of transportation here in the philippines... if you ever visit our country i hope you guys try to ride on one of this vehicles... i hope you enjoy reading this as much as i enjoy blogging about it...

remember if you want to share about your country just link your post to this post on the comments area... and please remember RESPECT... we are all different so please keep an open mind on this post.... ;-)

keep on blogging!!!

Queenie This totally rocks, its awesome! thank you thank you thank you...

I'd love to take a ride on a jeepney and also a trycicle... it looks cool.  The jeepney's are so colourful! like a party on wheels! how KOOL...KOOL KOOL KOOL!

What I noticed with the Jeepney's is they are all very personalised, like the owners have a thang! for their vehicles, each one a different personality!

lucy: youre right lucy!!! every jeepne is personalized. it gives a lttle something to it!!! it's one cool ride!!! ;-)

You could have so many giggles on one of those, seriously I'd love to sit up front with the driver and giggle away at his bits and peices (those special items to him on his bus)

queenie:  in the US, we do have public transportation in the form of trains and buses.  where i live in NJ, it is common for people who work in New York City take the trains and buses to work because it's alot cheaper than driving by car, and paying for not only gas, but also tolls on the roads and tolls to cross the bridges/tunnels that separate the two states.
for example, to cross the George Washington Bridge costs $8.
if you carpool (3 or more people in the car) and have a special ticket on the car, it is reduced to $2.  this is supposed to give people motivation to car pool....

in the big cities, like New York, it's very expensive to keep a car.  there isn't enough parking and parking is very very expensive.  so for those people, there is an underground train system called the Subway.  The subway connects Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.  Trains run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!

where i live, most people drive cars to work.

Hey queenie, thanks for sharing this.  Here in Prague, we just have buses, trams, metros and taxis.... I like the variety where you are.  :)  jAnd I love all the different bright colors!

what a very cool series queenie!!!  I'm so impressed with how thoroughly you covered the systems in the Phillipines.  I'd totally like to try out some of your unique public transports.

Here in the bay area of SF we have three main public transports beside the usual busses.

     images.jpg
Cable Car in the city of SF, which is a big tourist thing.  They were the actual first public transport system in the 1800s.  I have to admit, I've never ridden one.  Something I must remedy soon.

Then there is the Bay Area Rapid Transit or BART system which is a high speed rail.  It doesn't go everywhere, but if you want to get into the city without the hassle of finding and paying for parking it's a good deal.

     images.jpg

The last is the CalTrain system.  This is even more limited, but it does go all the way to San Jose, CA which started being important when the Silicon Valley became a player in the high tech world.

     images.jpg

Honestly, I haven't used any of these systems but BART.  I have coworkers who use them to get to work and back, and I'm sure with the price of gas going up it will become more common.

secretlife:  i would love to ride the subway someday secret!! well with gas prices nowadays i understand why people carpool nowadays... thanks ofr dropping by... ;-)

Hello Queenparanoia! As a sailor on deployment, I've visited the Phillipeans several times. Our Captain wanted to purchase a Jeepney on one of our return trips to use stateside as our ship's vehicle. Sadly, this never happened.

In my area, public transportation is the bus, however they have been talking about community bikes - these are bicycles painted a bright yellow that you can ride anywhere in town to another bike point. Currently they're arguing how people will pay for this or if it's going to be free - we'll have to see.

  • hotaka said on Sep 29, 2008....
I gotta say the trisikad and the jeepney look really fun. I think I would just have to ride in one of those. And of course I would take lots of photos. When MiniHot is old enough I think I want to take him to the Philippines to try out some of these cool rides. Thanks for that interesting information.

Well, what can I say about Japan? It's trains, bullet trains, subways, cars, taxis, buses, motorcycles, bicycles and feet.
  • travelr712 said on Sep 29, 2008....
i'm sorry qpdoll, i spent a half hour copying pics and creating a post, and then none of the pics would show up. probably cause i didn't put them on flickr first :-(

    i'll try again tomorrow.

    Hi, Queen!

I don't take public transportation very often, but I have from time to time. I live in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, and our public transport system is the envy of many.

    There's the Max train:

    PortlandMax
    And here's the bus:
    Tri Met 1905

    Hi, Queen!

  • RollingC said on Sep 29, 2008....
What an interesting post Queen....here in Miami we have buses and trains for transportation....the rickshaw is here also but it's mainly a tourist attraction.
I have to set up a flickr acct. which I haven't done yet.
How nice...makes me want to go to the Phillipines to try out the different rides there.   The painted buses are reminiscent of South America where those buses exist but more towards the interior....the countryside....and they are very brightly painted just like in your pics (almost...I think the ones you showed are better).
All of them are highly personalized by each owner/driver.
