So I was just going through some pictures on faceook when I came across something that's been freaking me out for some time now. It was a picture of my classmate and her fiance. Yep.. she's getting married. In a couple of months. Married. Thats right. The M word! With a husband and everything! She's the first friend or acquaintance of mine who's getting married. Married. M-a-r-r-i-e-d. I can't even say it!

Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing against marriage. My parents have been happily married for 24 years now and thats how I want to be one day. But one day.. not right now! Not yet! I mean come on! Who gets married right out of college? Ok so I've heard of people doing that.. but nobody I know! Nobody in my class! Not one of us!! And its not just me.. my whole bunch of friends is freaked out! This is completely out of ordinary! I mean we're still having exams all the time. That's way to young to be getting married. We're still kids. When people call my parents they ask 'How are the kids?'. See.. we're the kids!!

This makes me feel like I'm five and something really weird is happening that I don't understand! But what the hell.. atleast I'll get to be all dressed up for the wedding! There might even be cute guys there.. I might as well be optimistic!

haha this sort of thing is not unusual where i come from. some of the people i went to high schoolwith married right after graduation, others during college, and others still after college graduation. nearly half the people i knew from high school are married now.

LOL you are too funny!  I do hope your friend has known this guy for a while though... or yes it would be yikes!!!!  have a good time at the wedding... and if you feel that strongly... better stay out of that line that catched the boquet~ hehe

brit: Oh my!! That would've driven me nuts! Actually maybe that would've desensitized me.. now that I've never seen this happen at all.. I'm sort of creeped out!

quietone: Actually they've been together 2 years.. but only in a long distance internet relationship.. he's been studying and working in a different country.. they've only been together in flesh for a few days when he came down here for an engagement party.. and now she's moving to a different country with him.. I tell you its the strangest thing ever!

How old are your friends? 21? My brother got married at 19 so I guess it doesn't shock me all that much. I always thought I'd get married really young too, but that didn't happen. Which is good because if I'd gotten married back then, I wouldn't have met Nat! Although, if I met her ten years ago, I can still see us getting married fast, despite how old we would have been. Sometimes when it's right, it's right. And if they feel ready, then I wish them luck!

e_t: I completely get what you're saying.. if its right then its right.. I dunno why it feels so weird! I guess I might be in a bit of a denial about being marriageable age.. hehe.. but you're right.. if it feels right, age's not a factor. Except.. o my god! See how hard I'm trying to be mature about this? I don't know why I keep cringing!!

some of my classmates got married right out of high school.
a lot of my classmates got married during college....
and by the time they were out of college some of them had already been divorced and only one or two weren't married by the time they'd been out of college for a year or two.

a lot of my generation got married at 18, 19 and 20 and in the early 20's. I was late 28.
Now people are getting married older.

My son Gummi was 20 when he became a father.

Fallyn: Wow.. that sounds so different than my experiance! So very different! Amazing!

skald: Hi skald!! A father at 20 huh? He must've been very mature and independant. Maybe thats what its about.. being independant.

Diabolicdame. if you don't plan on getting married in the near future may I suggest you stay in the house and don't answer the door. I've got a funny feeling some guy's gonna snatch you off of your feet right quick.
  • diabolicdame said on Sep 28, 2008....
CMan: Hehehehe.. is that some kind of a compliment? You've got me giggling..  very charming! Well I'm going to take your advice and be very careful opening the door!!     :-D

Someone as beautiful as you would have guys banging on your door for your hand in marriage !!!! Dont be scared of it.My folks have been married for 38 years and my Mum was 19 and my Dad was 22.I got married when i was 23 - its nothing to be scared of.if you get married in your early 20's - it is easier to enjoy life as acouple and relax.but from what i know of the indian nation,I know that they prefer ot get married in their 30's,not sure why.
Have a nice time at the wedding,I am sure that you will look lovely

It's kinda scary when the first of your friends or acquaintances get married.  It's sort of a wake-up that you're not the "kid" you thought you were.

But I find it odd that you could've gotten this far in life before it happened! :)

Like Fallyn...I knew people who got married right out of high school.  I knew a lot more people who got married during or right after college.  That's pretty much the normal time frame these days I think.  My best friend from childhood got married when I was 15 (she was 19).  For me, that was the "first wedding" in my circle of friends and it felt really strange too.

I had two cousins get married just out of high school, and the rest all married during or right after college.  One of my cousins is married and a mommy and I don't think she's 19 years old yet!

Me personally, I had only been 20 years old for a month when I got married!  Anyway my point is, getting married in college is not actually that young or that unusual.  But the first one of your peers to tie the knot is always a very weird feeling.  It's the sign of moving into the next era of your life, really leaving childhood behind and realizing even if you don't get married, you are going to have "married friends" and their life is going to change a lot which means yours is too.
  • diabolicdame said on Sep 28, 2008....
nytquill: Thats exactly what it is. Its a first. Thats why its strange. The kind of people I've grown up with and the way things are around me, none of my cousins are even married yet.. I'm amongst the oldest in the family but even the ones older than me are still unmarried. Everybody's studying and focussed on careers. The last weddings I attended were of aunts and uncles and my parent's friends! It is a wake up call of sorts!

I bet in another 2 years or so.. people will be getting married around me left, right and center! Hopefully I'll be used to it by then.

Ahhh ..................... errrr................. Diabolicbabalicious?? don't you have a boyfriend?? CUTE BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  lol

Hah, you know I felt the same until I was in my mid to late twenties.. actually hold on I got married when I was at 29 yrs old.. I still think I was a kid back then! 29!!!!!!

ENjoy the party, but boy keep those hands and EYES to yourself, for the sake of your BOYFRIEND?? REMEMBER HIM??

    ROFLMAO

Why do things always get worse? I hope this is a 'It's getting worse before it gets better.' sort of thing ... but I hope the better doesn't leave me alone, standing in the dust....
So far so good......
2 days and counting ... well 1 and a half ... well, ok today was just a good day!...
This is a GOOD one! I still can't believe this one myself........
