There is something very refreshing about watching Liberals try to rip apart Sarah Palin.  It wasn't that long ago and none of them even knew here name, now suddenly everyone is an expert at pointing out here alleged inexperience and shortcomings.

The funny thing about this is I've heard so many Liberals talk about how Hillary Clinton would have been a better choice for VP for Obama than Biden.  So lets put Hillary Clinton up next to Sarah Palin as far as executive experience, skeletons in the closet, and overall likeability.

Clinton has 8 years experience in the White House competing with her husband for the spotlight, and her short time in the Senate.  Palin was a mayor and has been the governor of Alaska for the last two years to which she holds an unprecedented approval rating.

If one were to open Clinton's closet they would be knocked over and crushed by the numerous skeletons her and her husband have piled up over the years.  What do we have on Palin?  Troopergate?  Her daughter's issues?

As far a likability Clinton is liked by a lot of Liberals and hated by all Conservatives.  Palin is liked by all Conservatives and hated by some Liberals.  The Clinton marriage is similar to most hollywood marriages, a joke.  It really isn't even a joke, it is a business designed for a powergrab.  Palin seems to have a reasonably stable marriage.  Who is a better role-model for our kids, Clinton or Palin?

Sarah Palin punched the Republican party in the arm and woke it from its coma.  Her enthusiasm, her status as an outsider, her past record of going against injustice even when it was in her own party, and her historic place in history just drives Liberals insane.  They know Palin is going to scoop up virtually every independant and moderate Democrat.  So let the smear campaign continue, it's fun watching these people come unhinged.

You must be living in a happy fantasy world but I'll play your game cus it's fun.

    1.  Hillary was a senator in one of the most populated states, with one of the biggest cities in the world.  She probably got more experience in the first two weeks than Palin got in all of her years.  Her city has a population of 5k.  My High School had that many, so she had the responsibility of. . . .A High School president of class!  (actually a little more, but it's not comparible.)  She then spent a short time as a governor of a state that has just over half a million people.  So she ran. . .what?  Four blocks of New York?

Any honest apprisal of Hillary vs Palin in terms of experience just based on real things (that I was married to the White House for 8 years was and is Bullshit) has Hillary so far beyond her it's not even funny.  That said just like Barrack it is possible that Palin's LACK of experience is a good thing, she's not so ensared in the machine and it's workings that she believes that the way it is, is the only way it can be.  Maybe she can find a better way where Hillary won't rock the boat.

    2.  Honestly I don't think their marriages should be compared but if we are going to compare them. . .I'll just cede the point mostly because I know nothing about Palin's marriage, though I suspect it's just like her daughters.  Someone got knocked up, someone got married and it's not a marriage of love, nor a marriage for power.  It's a marriage so the boogeyman won't send you to hell.  But that's my opinion and I've no facts to prove that at all.  Clinton's marriage is clearly in many ways a powergrab and probably always was.  Seeing how one of them became president and the other very nearly accomplished it I'm not sure which marriage I would say we should emulate.

    3.  The independents are moderate Democrats seem to hate Sarah.  She's Pro-Life, she asked about how to ban books, she wants Inteligent Design taught in schools.  She's going to have a hard time with those middle people, she at she did accomplish however is getting guys like ALIEN who didn't like McCain to pay attention.

I was born and raised in New York, and it is one of the most liberal states in world.  Hillary has been a junior Senator for 8 years with a majority of those years either selling books or running for President.  Before that she was a first lady and before that she was a lawyer.  New York is one of the most overtaxed over-regulated states in the country.

Sarah was a city council member for 4 years then mayor for 6 years then Chairwoman of Oil and Gas conservation commission for a year, governor for 2 years.

As far as executive experience, sorry Sarah beats Hillary.

4 years a mayor of my high school and 2 as govenor of my county.  Check.  I don't care about her being Chairwoman of X, Y, Z any mroe than I care that Hillary was Bills Hubby for 8 years.  The only thing it kinda tells me is that she can ballance a check book and run a company.  So I would like to see her economic plans cus she might be surprising.

I'm a Californian, we are THE most regulated and THE most taxed state in the nation.  And we still manage to be the the seventh largest economy in the world.

I'm not disputing that there is a such thing as over regulation, there is.  But can you cite specific examples of how NY is over regulated?  I ask this for two reasons, one is because I think (both sides on this issue) have little idea what they are talking about other than parroting what the guy above them said.  And second I belive that the person making the claim bears the burden of truth.  When the regulation was put in place it was the side of the regulators to prove the need. Now that it's in place it's the  side of the people wanting to repeal those regulations to cite specifics as to what is going on and what would change if we did things differently.

For the moment I'm going to use fighting as an anolgy.  A truly lassiez-faire economy would be like a street fight.  If you get a broken bottle, cool, your friend sneaks up behind him with a chair?  That's cool too.  Our current economy is like boxing, or MMA.  It's still a fight it's just there are rules.  One on one, no weapons, no low blows etc.  Show me that boxing would be more competitive if we allowed them to kick.

(for the record true socialism/communism is like professional wrestling.  It's simply not a fight, the problem is that getting dropped off a cage onto a flaming table is more likely to break your arm than geting punched by Frazier.  It's got most of the risks and fewer rewards)

I mentioned Palin being chairwoman of the OGCC because, energy is a hot issue.

I don't live in NY anymore I live in Vermont.  If I wanted to buy a handgun I can walk into a gunstore show my license, wait five days, then go pick it up.  Just about ten minutes over the border in NY in order to legally purchase a handgun:

1-Drive to the Sheriffs department and get paper work.

2-Fill out paperwork which consists of three seperate character references.

    3-Pay between $200 to $300 in fees

4-Wait over a year because each character reference has to fill out part of your paperwork and sent it in and if they forget you are denied.

5-After a year if they approve it you can get a permit to buy a handgun.  Silly????

In New York a piece of wood that says "peacemaker" on it in the shape of a club is called a "bludgeon" which in NY is a felony.  At the same time the same exact fucking stick resembling a broken billiard cue or a piece of firewood is not. Silly????

Palin has proved she can be an executive in a pinnacle energy state, this in my opinion makes her have more experience than Obama, oh, no wait I mean Clinton.

Ok, I agree that gun control is wrong at a basic level.  Do you think New York (economy wise) would be better of with laxer gun laws?

The fact is that we've allowed gun control to get so far out of hand already that to me it constitutes a non-issue.  If the problem it was put in place to prevent arrises (tyranical government) we are already too fucked to prevent it and since that seems unlikely we're better of focusing on other problems for now and shoring up those weaknesses before we start working on tearing that back down.

New York's economy wouldn't be crap if the taxes were reasonable.

My problem with gun control is it simply doesn't work and never has.  It it is ridiculous because this red tape only burdens honest people.

  • SeanRenaud said on Sep 29, 2008....
Gun Control does in fact work.  It works in England, it works in Japan, it works in Singapore and in hundreds of other countries around the world.  The notion that "if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns" is flawed.  See outlaws still can only get what is available and the black market is even more driven by Supply and Demand than the "regular" market.  You don't for example see terribly many gangsters with .50 cal machine guns, because they simply aren't available.

New York's Economy is the 16th largest IN THE WORLD, so calling it's economy crap. . .is almost just lying it is certainly relative.  It's third in the US trailing behind California and Texas both of which have massive coastlines and more land mass to use period.  Again you're economy is crap how?

New York and Californa are two of the most highly taxed, highly regulated states in the country (likely #1 and #2) and they have the highest income, the bigest economies, the most sucessful cities etc etc.  So clearly heavy regulation hasn't screwed you by but so much.

The question is only if those regulations have helped you get to and maintain that size, or if they are keeping you from attaining new heights.

Gun control works if there are little to no guns to start out with.  When you give all of your citizens the right to carry guns then make them illegal it only empowers the criminal.  New York City has a no handgun no exception rule and look at the gun violence in New York City.

.50 cal machine guns are available, anyone with a half a brain is not going to try to use a .50 cal for crime.  The thing that is interesting about gun control is taking away guns and you have more of other crimes, but loosen the rules and these same crimes drop.  Crimes like rape, robbery, home invasions, etc.

I don't know the specifics of New Yorks economy by I know they are hurting because I here the local news everyday and my parents live there.  They are losing businesses, unemployment is high, they just raised property taxes.  New York City and New York are practically two different entities but in NYC they outlawed smoking in most public places, transfats in restaurants, any form of reasonable parking, the list is endless.  Everyone calls the oil companies evil for their profits, it cost $30 an hour to park in NYC.  Just to visit the place for a day not counting gas or any attractions is about $100 to $150.
