Read his biography here

He has been my mom and i common crush.....
I grew up with me and her watching his movies ..the tv was in the kitchen and me and her would drink our espresso after lunch while re-watching for the third or fourth time one of his movies...commenting here and there....the sounds of her moving around the room....the smell of her food....our dogs sleeping underneath the table...the light filtering inside through the wooden blind....
She would chop the vegetables for the dinner.
I would sigh and say:
"Man, when he was born they threw away that mold "..

My sister loved him too...we created a list of old generation men we loved to watch.......Newman, Brando, Cooper, Clift, Dean, Redford.......

With the time i appreciated his effort and political involvement in making this planet  a better place.....green ideas and so on..
His foodie line was good, organic even though a tad too expensive....:-)

Bye Bye, Paul.

gingerpeach, we will have duelling posts!  I think that's fine -- he was certainly worthy of two.  I was wandering around YouTube this morning looking for a good video to post, and it's just so hard to pick one.  Which movie is your favorite?
  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....
    Mimi.........oh, its ok.......great minds think alike....lol...

So many........"The long, hot summer"...."Butch Cassidy"....."From the terrace"..... "Somebody up there loves me'.....

He just had that elegance and intensity, you know? Oh, i forgot....that sexiness....lol..

    What about your fav?
  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....

Ehi, Mimi....what about this video?......all those bathtubs and showers.....;-p
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 27, 2008....
Oh my, I didn't know.  What a great loss of a great actor and human being.
  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....
Unique.....the great thing about Newman is that he never seemed fazed by all this amazing buzz around himself...and the fact he was involved in so many charity and environmental projects without even wanting to be recognized for that...humbleness to its best...

It seems we aren't generating actors like those of the past or of Paul Newman's class.

One of his best pictures for me anyway was Slapstick. the hockey movie haha

    He will be missed...........thanks Gingerbread
  • MissMimi said on Sep 27, 2008....

mobil,  lol  now I get what you meant.

gingerpeach, I did love Butch Cassidy -- my fav scene was when he and Redford jumped off the cliff into the river.  Oh shi-i-i-i-t....  But my favorite has to be Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  He was perfect as the tortured former football star drowning his pain in a bottle of Scotch.

  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....

Mimi....oh yes....the Cat......the sexual tension was expressed with so small gestures and yet was more explosive that many explicit movies we can see nowadays.....

    That poor Liz Taylor character....:-)

Mobil......so right.....wonder who might be a present actor who might be compared t o him ...i can't think of any......

He was one of the best.  Even though it's illogical to expect someone to live forever, it's still sad to see him go.

Rolling...its like we invest them of such supernatural power...you know....forever beautiful.... forever ageless ....

They are made of the same fabric of our dreams,  after all..

That's why the most talented of them are also the most reclusive in real life...and Newman was one of them.....like Brando.

They knew the power of illusions..and how to play them.
  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....
Anon.......oh, what a pure stroke of genius...

Kinda too early though.....i suggest you to post it again for Xmas...i will wait for it...

Seriously, you have some issues but i am going to take advantage of your screwy mind and use this video for some Xmasy fun.....thanks for the swallowing idea.

Now, back to our normal transmission, folks.

Naturally, you know that from now on you will be deleted , right? Sweet thing of you...:-)
  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....
Guys, could you please delete those so un-classy tags up there?

    Anonymous got  hyper today.

Ginger - if you look up the word "Cool" in the dictionary there would be Paul Newman's picture beside it.  He was the coolest and while he hasn't done much in the way of acting in a long time, the fact is that he was a true humanitarian as well - he will be missed!

and married 50 YEARS!!  Hell, in Hollywood that's like a millenium.

  • gingersoul said on Sep 27, 2008....
    Future.......i agree with you.....cool with the k.........;-)

I hope that now that he is dead they will not discover some dirty sex secret about him....
One has to have some hope, right?
  • queenparanoia said on Sep 27, 2008....

One of the very few men who had heart, intelligence, class and sensual pressence.  Quite right indeed Ginger ~ They lost the mold when they made him, a special human being.
  • MissMimi said on Sep 27, 2008....

I got that lovely video from anon too.  Only since I have anonymous comments blocked,  Lemon_Party had to reveal himself as the jackass he is.

Boy oh boy, gingerpeach, that "Insatiable" video!  It got a little warm in here. y'know?  Verrrrry nice.

  • quietone said on Sep 28, 2008....

I went to you post about him too....:-)
  • skald said on Sep 28, 2008....
No one was like he. I posted today not knowing that you and mimi had posted about him. But dear I would have anyway in memory of him. He was one of my favorite actors. Thanks for this.
  • gingersoul said on Sep 28, 2008....
    Skald....as i said to Mimi.....great minds think alike.....lol..

My mom called me today and the first thing she told me has been:

"Did you see? Newman passed away. I liked him so much. I am so sorry'
"Mom, we will watch his movies again one of these days, ok? "
  • blogacious said on Sep 29, 2008....
Hi Ginger - just saw your post. I liked him a lot too and feel so sad. My mom also liked him - lots of people were touched by his great talent and he was also a great human being. He was a one-of-a-kind and I'll miss him...  :-(
