This is the guy that actually did most of the work.  It was amazing to watch him.  The big tree frog!  LOL

puppy 011

yup, he finished chopping him up this morning, and there he lies on my nieghbors lawn.  I wonder if they are going to use it for fuel this winter?  I don't have a wood stove.  I hope someone gets some use out of the thing!

this is all that remains of our plan.  Soon, this too shall be a faint memory and burried under top soil and grass seed.  I like it!!

It was amazing to watch these guys at work.  That last branch they took off yesterday was between power lines going to my neighbors house and mine, plus the main power line. He cut it the boom caught it, and that huge branch never even touched a line. I was impressed!!  Now that was talent ~
And, believe me, I paid a bundle to watch it go down!

And, this is the last one that will go.  This is the mother load....... the BIG one that sets about 10 feet away from my deck in my back yard.  As you can see, it splits into two branches and one hangs right over my other neighbors house.  I love this one as it shades my whole back yard in the summer.. and helps keep my house a bit cooler.  I will hate to see this one go... but better on my terms than mother natures!

Tsk. What did that tree ever do to you?!?

  • quietone said on Sep 26, 2008....
Expendable ~ oh, this tree did LOTS to me... 1. dropped massive amounts of leaves in the fall, 2. dropped zillions and zillions of "helicoptors" in the spring, 3. dropped many a small/medium branches across my drive and one pretty big one across my lawn.  I had enough... I killed it.  Now I feel guilty.  :/

Oh but you are a heartless woman Quiet, I did notice though the massive amount of green wood stacked there. Looks like a cord at least.

Enough to heat your house for a good part of next winter, you'll have to wait that long for the wood to dry out.

Get a wood stove maybe huh? What kind of tree is it Quiet?
  • quietone said on Sep 26, 2008....
mobil ~ these are all silver maples.  I had 3 2 in front of my house and this huge one that remains in the back.  The wood pile is on my nighbors lawn across the street.  I don't know if they asked to have it or what!  I wouldn't have a wood stove.. they scare me.  but that electric one you mentioned.. I am calling on today.
  • skald said on Sep 26, 2008....
Yes, I see why it had to go. What a big one.
  • quietone said on Sep 26, 2008....
skald ~ I hate to get rid of that one in the back yard, but it is so close to the house and my neighbors.. I don't want it to fall and destroy either home.
  • wishyouwerehere said on Sep 26, 2008....
So sad but as you said, better on your terms - if that came crashing down on its own, it could do serious damage!
  • secretlife said on Sep 26, 2008....
it's a get them or get you kinda world quiet-
i think those trees were way too big for their places and before they fell and damaged one of your houses, someone had to chop them down!

you can bet that wood will be used by someone.  if your neighbor doesn't use it, then the people cutting down the tree will take it and split it and sell it....

I can see why you hate to lose that last tree.  It's a beauty.  But just recently here during the big blow, I've seen what happens when these big old trees fall.  Lots of damage.  Better to take it down rather than have it fall down.

It is heartless, though, quilty...  ;)  (You know I'm just pulling your leg, right?)

crap!!  Now I don't remember what I said.  Never mind ..........
  • quietone said on Sep 26, 2008....

wishy ~ you bet better on my terms!  One more to go and I am done.  I will be glad of that!  Maybe I will stack and sell the wood from that one myself... help pay for the taking down of the tree.

secret ~ I don't know if the people who took it down gave it to my neighbor or are just piling it there for now.  Either way, I hope someone will get some good use out of it.  It woud be sad in todays world to just have it chipped up into sawdust.

Meems ~ yes I love that last one in my back yard...... but she will have to go - soon.  And yes, every time we get a good windy storm or its lightning... I sweat it out about that tree.

    starchini ~  chop chop~

uniquely ~  LOL I have had that happen to me so many times!  you will see as you get older how frequent it really does!  but it was a good laugh!

Yeah, I see what you mean, Quiet...you really have no choice. But that's a beautiful old tree.
  • quietone said on Sep 26, 2008....
twyla ~ yes it is old, and I keep thinking... well it has stood all these years through all kinds of weather, maybe it will for another 50 years... ya know?  But, its about 15 feet from my bedroom.... and if it falls on my house..... I don't think I will have to worry about the next day~

Wow quietone I don't like to speak about trees to much I'm afraid the tree witches with hunt me down and put me through it again. I don't have much luck with trees. When I had my tree removed I had the stump bulldozed and removed also. It was quite a mess. When it was all said and done I felt like I had taken a trip to Jamaica but I did'nt go anywhere. I don't no how you fared but I felt like I was taken to the cleaners.
I know all about the leave thing and the helicopters. Don't you like it when they fall into the cowl of your trucks hood by the windsheild wipers ? :0)  That really sucks doesn't it. Well I hope you make out ok and once this work is done you won't have to worry about it anymore. Take care quietone and good-night.

I think I would cry. I would leave town. I would feel too guilty to even say goodbye or sorry. I'm afraid I just can't watch a tree go down on human terms, even when it's "necessary". And I would stand by the stump later and feel hollow. But that's just me.
  • quietone said on Sep 27, 2008....

Cman ~ I really like those hellicopters when the fill up my gutters and grow little tree hedges in them!  Well, now I have about a million less next spring anyway.  Yes, I do feel like I went on a nice cruise, only it was just to the bank... yup!

hotaka ~ I love trees too, but have learned never to buy a house with huge ones this close to the house.  You would feel pretty flat if one of these babies fell on ya too!

  • hotaka said on Sep 27, 2008....
It happens every year in the Greater Vancouver Area and Fraser Valley. November is storm force wind season and big trees fall on houses. My parents were in the insurance business and after every big storm they dreaded going to work and counting the claims.
  • quietone said on Sep 28, 2008....
hotaka ~ yes, I remember those winds as I lived just south of there in Washington state.  The winds were someting else.  I can remember fields of trees all down facing the same direction from that wind.  I can remember getting pushed right along a parking lot while walking to my car.... had I opened my coat.. I could have been a human kite!  LOL
