For the past few weeks I've been on a diet.  So far I'm about 15 pounds down.  Yay for me!!!! (party in my head is still going)

I have to give credit to the grocery store on the corner for my continued success.  I know, if it were left up to me, that I would have fallen off the wagon and would be making smores over the campfire I would have built with the wrecked wagon.  This place is a kind of "mother" to my childish diet hating side.  I absolutely hate having to premake my meals.

They serve a full hot breakfast bar every morning that I can and do fall back on when I forget to bring my yogurt and other foods.  (I eat 2 meals a day at my desk)  There's a Starbucks inside the front door that can make me a sugar free, fat free mocha on harsh days.  I do have to avoid the blintzes and other more fattening choices, but can pick up cheese omelets, sausages, bacon and whole grain toast.

For lunch they have a fantastic deli that will make me a 1/2 sandwich with high quality meats and cheeses so I don't stuff myself.  They also have a full salad bar, soup bar, olive bar and lunch hot bar.  Really good quality foods that are fresh and healthy.  Their produce section always has something interesting and exotic if I feel up to making my own salad.

Today as I munched on spinach and mushroom quiche with a green salad loaded with yummy toppings I had to stop and give thanks for having such a strong ally in the war of just saying no to fast foods.  I know I spend a little more this way, but I really do feel better.  If I lived closer I doubt I'd have more than wine, diet soda and yogurt in my fridge at home.

DD - thanks, I am happy with my progress so far.  It is hard to find places to buy healthy, tasty foods at a reasonable price!  There is also a convenience factor that has to be met, since it's so much easier to run in for a quick hamburger when you're running late.

Oooh, that place sounds fantastic! And way to go on the weight loss!

My college campus put in a "cyber cafe" that had a lot of healthier options than other places on campus did -- panini, salads, you name it and if it's fresh or healthy, they probably had it at some point. It was pricey, but I spent most of my meal plan eating there from the moment it opened! You just feel better when your body is running on less junky stuff.

I wish there was someplace within walking distance here like that.

I'm jealous, because I have to drive to town for anything half reasonable.... ohh a deli... a deli for my belly!

TIO - It is fantastic.  I do have to be careful to not go nuts in there because of the prices, but if I stick with the basics it isn't too much more.  I think once you clear your system of all the junk you really do start to appreciate running on good foods.  I am starting to crave salads instead of cheetos. :)

Lucy - I don't know if I'd make it too far from a good deli or at least a decent grocery store.  Like I mentioned, planning and prepping aren't my strong points.

So Uni.......what you are saying is you are too lazy to fix yourself good meals?

Sit down Uni, I am kidding, sounds like you have a good thing going there, and losing pounds in the process..........good luck continuing, but remember.

The hard part isn't in the losing, it's keeping it off that gets dicy......good luck with that too

mobil - I admit, I'm lazy. *sigh*  I have already started working on the long term plan for maintaining it and yes, it will have to be a lifestyle thing.
