For the past few weeks I've been on a diet. So far I'm about 15 pounds down. Yay for me!!!! (party in my head is still going)
I have to give credit to the grocery store on the corner for my continued success. I know, if it were left up to me, that I would have fallen off the wagon and would be making smores over the campfire I would have built with the wrecked wagon. This place is a kind of "mother" to my childish diet hating side. I absolutely hate having to premake my meals.
They serve a full hot breakfast bar every morning that I can and do fall back on when I forget to bring my yogurt and other foods. (I eat 2 meals a day at my desk) There's a Starbucks inside the front door that can make me a sugar free, fat free mocha on harsh days. I do have to avoid the blintzes and other more fattening choices, but can pick up cheese omelets, sausages, bacon and whole grain toast.
For lunch they have a fantastic deli that will make me a 1/2 sandwich with high quality meats and cheeses so I don't stuff myself. They also have a full salad bar, soup bar, olive bar and lunch hot bar. Really good quality foods that are fresh and healthy. Their produce section always has something interesting and exotic if I feel up to making my own salad.
Today as I munched on spinach and mushroom quiche with a green salad loaded with yummy toppings I had to stop and give thanks for having such a strong ally in the war of just saying no to fast foods. I know I spend a little more this way, but I really do feel better. If I lived closer I doubt I'd have more than wine, diet soda and yogurt in my fridge at home.
