My son, who is two, has been growing his vocabulary at an astonishing rate. Before I forget, I have to record some of the cute things he has said to me in the past week.
When I asked him if he wanted more to eat last night, he said, "no, I can't eat too much." Hubby and I laughed out loud. But soon afterwards our son changed his mind and came back to eat more.
Because our son kept bugging me tonight to do something, I started to play a game of "mommybot" with him, where I pretended to be a robot. He had never heard the word robot, before, I think. But soon he said to me, in a chiding tone, "you're not a robot, mommy," and "you're funny, mommy."
We were watching a video with the song "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and I started to sing along. My son pats me on the chest a few times and says, "listen, listen, listen," in an authoritative tone. I stop in astonishment, then he starts singing along. Apparently he had wanted me to listen to him instead.
All this week when we gave him crayons and paper, he wanted us to write his name, "daddy," "mommy," "grandpa," and "grandma" out for him. He's even starting to recognize certain words! I don't know if it's from memory or not. He hasn't quite caught on to reading yet, even though he is starting to pronounce the letter sounds as he reads each letter.
At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he learned how to read by the time he's five. More than ever, I am feeling the responsibility to train him well.
Now, on to the next challenge---potty training!
