Last night there was a pretty stupid fight card at the Playboy Mansion. In fight after fight, an obvious favorite defeated someone who really didn't belong in the ring with him. In almost all the "headline" fights anyway.
There were 5 fights on the card in which I at least heard of the guys. I'll call those the headline fights. Trevor Prangley decisioned Anthony Ruiz, which was a gimme. Ishida beat Moishe Pippick, which was a gimme. Terry Martin stopped Cory Devela in the 3rd round, which was the only good matchup on the entire program, the only one that wasn't a mismatch. Josh Thompson beat Moishe Pippick's sister Havva Pippick. And finally Kazuo Misaki beat Joe Diesel Riggs of the bad back.
Who is Misaki? He beat Denis Kang. That would be his claim to fame. He lost to some good guys like Paolo Filho, Dan Henderson and Frank Trigg. I don't know why Riggs keeps trying.
Who is Josh Thompson? He's the guy who beat Gilbert Melendez to win a meaningless championship. But Melendez is good, so that means Thompson is good, and his opponent was a joke. What are they thinking, at the Playboy Mansion? Why do they put top guys in against utter mediocrities? Do they even give a damn about competitiveness?
All things considered, I don't know why they paired Cory Devela up against Terry Martin, since they are both at about the same level and it would make for a competitive fight. It spoiled their record for shit matchups.
