Why is that when we want something new we do whatever it takes to get our desire? It’s like the King who finds a new lush land with beautiful fields, clear streams, and mountains filled with gold. The King thinks this would be a great land to add to my kingdom I have a lot of land and much power but with this new land surely I will finally be happy. He sends his soldiers into the land to find out if it is as it appears, beautiful and lush waiting for a king to rule it. The soldiers report back we can take that land easily for they have no walls to protect it and they have no ruler. So the kings send in his troops and conquer the land. The king feels so triumphant with his accomplishment. He looks around and is pleased that all this beauty is now his. Everyday he strolls thru the land and takes stock of what he has accomplished. But soon he feels living in this land is not as good as he imagined. His interest wanes, the land goes to waste, it is no longer the beautiful land he once knew. The fields are now bare, because of the battles fought there, the streams are now dry and the gold in the mountains is all gone. So he tires of the new kingdom and he begins to look for other lands to conquer.
How much are we (me) like this with things in our(my) lives. We have great jobs, wonderful friends, family that supports us but even though we have all this we feel as though we need more. We see a desirable mate and we do so much to get them to notice us and all that we have to offer. We present ourselves in a way that will make that person do whatever we want. We listen to them talk, we do special things to let them know we are thinking of them, we spend all of our time with them so they know how important they are to us. We finally win them over and they become part of our everyday life. Soon, though we lose interest, the field is not as green; in fact we have grown tired of the upkeep of the field. We have blocked the streams so it no longer flows and we have stripped the mountains of its value. Its no wonder we no longer want this land, we have stripped it all that was beautiful.
When things go wrong with our relationships we need to see if we have become the King of the pillaged land. If we took the time to treat everyone like that valuable land we so desired in the beginning we can have the Kingdom of Happily Ever After everyday.
I am trying not to be the king, I really want to have it all and have appreciation for all the beauty in my life. I do not want to pillage and ravage the people I love in my life. Time to put down the armor and embrace all that I have.
