After reading this article most people would be appalled.  I'm actually feeling a little better about the appalling state that my car is in.

I'll get a picture at lunch to prove it, but I haven't washed my car in over 3 months and it is starting to resemble a rolling dust ball.  I know I should just take it through the car wash, but there always seems to be better places to spend the same money.  I have absolutely no disillusions about how disgusting it looks.

The inside is as bad as the outside.  The trunk is full of stuff I can't find storage in the apartment for.  Including that wooden CD holder I got at the thrift shop.  I keep saying I'm going to go through it and toss stuff I don't use.  Right.  I think I could probably furnish a studio apartment with the things that are in there.

The inside of the car is dusty and has a lot of hair that I seem only to shed while driving.  I have paper and plastic bags, food wrappers, receipts for stuff I bought months ago, a change of clothes with no shoes, and other things I'm sure.  The dust on the dash has crusted over and I'm no longer able to write notes in it, which is a shame since I don't always have paper and pen handy.

So, does having a few bacteria alarm me?  No, I really don't think so.  In fact, if I cultivate it properly perhaps I can save on antibiotics.  I'm pretty sure I'm challenging my immune system, which is good, right?

mine hasn't had a bath in almost a year. yeah. ....
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Fallyn - wow!  that is impressive!  Do you remember the original color?
  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
my kids, and my niece and nephews decided they'd give it a bath.....
all well and good, till my nephew decided puddle water was just as good.

*sigh* it was smeared in mud. .....i tried to wash it off, but i didn't have soap......so it still has the mud water spots on it.....

i just haven't had a chance to get it washed again....i can't take it through the car wash cause the antenna won't go down.
and i haven't had time to do it myself.
and it's REALLY low on my priority list.

My car is going on about 6 months, I think ... but the inside looks like a rolling junk yard.  You are not alone, U-I!

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Fallyn - puddle water?!!  Bwa ha ha ha!  OMG, that's so funny..... er not for you so much.

WYWH - 6 months is respectable.  During the winter I don't wash at all.  I mean, that's what rainwater is for, right?
  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
wish, i think the inside of mine looks like a garbage disposal before it's been run......my house is a mess. my car is FILTHY. ....low on the priority list. i should do something about that shouldn't i.

UI......now do you see why my life is chaos? ......
GRRRR. littlest is walking through the living room with her cereal bowl (cereal and milk included) balanced on her head!!

    *sigh*
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Fallyn - tell her to go sit down!!!  Lordy woman!  You need to run that house like the military for about a month and then when your little soldiers are trained you can send them out to use clean water to wash the outside of the car.  I don't recommend having them do the inside since my own kids managed to spray a whole can of pepsi in the cabin somehow when they were about your kids age.
  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
UI.....*laughing* you think i didn't!? ....its the third time this week.
she spent time in her time out chair for that one. three warnings about cereal bowls full of milk on the head is ENOUGH in my book.

  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
*sigh* ill be back......she found the water colors.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Just think, in a few years they'll all be in school and you'll have 6 hours of blissful peace.

Both of our cars are pretty foul.  I don't care nearly as much as I should.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Eilan - I wonder what the appropriate amount would be?  I know some people are so passionate about keeping a sparkling clean car.  Now that's sick.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 16, 2008....

I have a car??? I thought I was driving a mud ball with windows ... HA.

I'm kidding. It's not *that* bad but it could stand to be cleaned.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
one wired - I would hazard to guess that your mudd ball runs on gasoline?  Mine too!
  • fragglesrock said on Sep 16, 2008....
oh, how good it feels to be among others! my friends turn their noses up when i offer to drive, added benefit to my filth????
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
fraggle - I am something of a legend in my office for having obtained such widespread reputation for driving a dirty heap that when I go to lunch people are eager to offer to drive ;)
  • fragglesrock said on Sep 16, 2008....
let's not let our secret leak out...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
fraggle - I won't tell if you don't.  It was either the smell or my driving and either way I'm okay with it.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 16, 2008....
LOL .. it runs on gas. I think it was a cream color when I bought it.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
one wired - can you imagine how cool it would be to find a way to run cars on dust and dirt?  Talk about a renewable resource!
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
    **Laughing histerically**

You know what I think, Too many people are sterilized, too many people get sick because they don't allow a few damn normal bugs in their system to boost their immune system.  Christ you'd think we should be sterilised every time we fucking well touch anything! Shit don't touch that stearing wheel its got old skin on it!

You stay filthy girl! you'll be healthier for it! oddly enough I think I may be right!

EDIT ~ BTW my car looks like a lump of mud..... if you can see through the windows its only because the sun isn't shinning! my dash board is my diary as well and if you pat the seat too hard you will suffocate in a mist of fine dust!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Lucy - Somehow I figured you for being part of the filthy and proud of it club.  I agree that we've become too germ phobic.  There are actually studies that suggest that we've let our immune systems go unchallenged and are now paying for it.  Not me though!  I swear my antibodies launch from my body and attack anything in breathing distance.
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
    Just like my breath!~

Mwa a ha ha ha yeh you know I've always been like that with my car, I am proud of the fact that I can still find fuel receipts from 2006 in my car.  & I also know that I had a minty a few err years ago!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Lucy - Bwa ha ha ha  Receipts from 2006?!!!  that's hysterical.  Remind me not to ride with you if I come visit.  We'll rent a car if you come visit me.
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
Nahh we'll take hubbies 1963 Triumph Spitfire - its a man magnet that little red sports car, and its CLEAN!

I was looking for a shoe the other day in my bedroom and thought "Now where the hell is the other one?"

Yep  you guessed it, IN MY CAR!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Lucy - *giggles covertly at desk*  OMG!!!  I went looking for my good tennies in my trunk the other day.  I didn't find them, mostly because I was distracted by the other "oh yeah, that's where that went!" items.

Man magnet huh?  I'm so totally gonna take you up on that.
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
Hold on I'll see if I can show you what it looks like!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
    Lucy - *tapping foot*  well?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 16, 2008....
Lucy - my bad.  Nice car!
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
Yarrr.... we'd have to tie hubby up and hand cuff him somewhere so he couldn't stop us leaving.... in a trail of cackling laughter!
  • skald said on Sep 16, 2008....
Too much cleanliness is killing us today anyway.
  • Battycat said on Sep 16, 2008....
Mine looks like a stable on wheels, in fact the inside is worse than the outside! A bit of dirt does noboby any harm, its good for you ( I hope) :-)
  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
I read today that pediatricians get really really sick in their first year of practice...but after that their immune systems are invincible.
makes you think....maybe a dirty car isn't such a bad thing.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 16, 2008....
My mom's anal retentive about clean. ONE pine needle on the floor and suddenly it (i.e. house, car, etc.) becomes a shithole.
  • Fallyn said on Sep 16, 2008....
kitty...my ex's parents are that way. drove me CRAZY.
in fact i overheard her asking my daughter on the phone about how messy my house was.
  • RollingC said on Sep 16, 2008....
I'm trying to keep this car clean as before I'd never wash it unless a blue moon came along and even then it'd be the carwash.
I've always kept my cars in mechanical working order but cleaning the inside was never a priority.  The only way I kept the car seats like new is to put seat covers on them....and even then I usually use old t-shirts and the like to cover them.
.....heh.... when I used to work with my old blue Silverado (Old Blue) I used to carry odds and ends (looked like junk) in the bed of the pickup. Never locked the truck and used to keep all kinds of expensive things under the seat or just throw a towel over them.   No one ever even thought of messing with the truck...lol....
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 16, 2008....
Roling OMG I do the same, I've left my wallet in full view on the front seat with merely a plastic bag over it.. come back two hours later and its still there!

    Like your style!
  • scipio said on Sep 17, 2008....
A new tie invites the soup of the day.

So a clean car may invite - who knows what ..........

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 17, 2008....
skald - I agree, though sometimes that is an unpopular opinion to hold.

Batty - stable on wheels ...... hmmmm.  interesting visual.  And I hope it's good for a person too.

Fallyn - the same is true with ER staff members.  I spent the first 6 months as an ER clerk being sick about once a week.  After that I doubt the plague could have taken me down.

OWK - My mom too!!!  She'd spend all of her time cleaning MY home when she used to visit.  I tried to stop her by cleaning before she came, but somehow I managed to not do a good enough job.  Finally I figured out that it made her happy.

RC and Lucy - same here, a little camoflage like a tshirt tossed over my purse and I always leave the doors unlocked.  It shocks some people, but since I don't even have a radio in the car there is really nothing to steal

scipio - I'm not following the analogy
  • Fallyn said on Sep 17, 2008....
UI, well, i'm hopeing this year will be better than last year for the kids...thye got EVERYTHING last year. ugg. but...same classmates this year...so hopefully....*crossing fingers*

oh...and the new tie thing? ...if you are wearing a brand new tie, inevitably you will spill something on it......if you have a clean car.....inevitably something REALLY messy will happen. :P ....keep your car messy to prevent something REALLY gross. :P
  • quietone said on Sep 17, 2008....
I have washed my new truck once in a year.  I am glad its the color that doesn't show dirt!  The inside, well, that is still pretty new and clean.  I don't like dirty insides.. I will make comments to the person about it.. LOL  guess you are glad you don't have me as a passenger!  LOL
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 17, 2008....
Fallyn - the kids sound like they're due for a break.

Oh!  I get it now!  My daughter has already christened my car with a milkshake!
  • Fallyn said on Sep 17, 2008....
god i hope so. the last few years we've spent coughing for weeks at a time..i'm rather tired of it.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 17, 2008....
Fallyn - I know money is tight, but have you considered an air filter for the house?  If the majority of sickness includes coughing it's possible that they have allergies or respiratory challenges that would benefit from at least an good air environment while they sleep.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 17, 2008....

I swear, dude ... she's about as much fun as being kicked in the head. I love her to death but she really needs to calm down. There's no Cleaning KGB that's gonna bust down the door if there's a fork in the sink for longer than 2.8 seconds.

  • Fallyn said on Sep 17, 2008....
UI......that might be possible. i know i'm tired of it.

oh...and on mom's coming to clean....myh grandma used to do that to my mom too.....and mom got the whole house completely spotless thinking my grandma would leave her alone about it..........nope....grandma comes in the living room and says "oh, i sorted your laundry for you" .....there was ONE sock.....and a single T'shirt.
mom totally gave up at that point.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 17, 2008....

LOL. I drop ONE dryer sheet on the floor and she'll spend 2 hours cleaning the bathroom. UGH.

She asked me why I drink like I do. I told her because I can. Couldn't tell her it makes her more fun to be around.

Anyway. Speaking of cleaning - I need to make a valiant stab at it before I head to A&W for one of the last cruise-ins of the year.

  • Fallyn said on Sep 17, 2008....
good luck with that cleaning kitty!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 17, 2008....
kitty - give up, wave the white flag

Fallyn - if you can it would be good
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 17, 2008....

*raises the eggshell white flag while throwing poison cookies*

I can't give up yet!!! LOL

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
kitty - what?! are you expecting to change her? *gasps*  It aint gonna happen honey.
  • one_wired_kitty said on Sep 18, 2008....

    LOL ... I know.

How did we go from filthy cars to anal housecleaning :p

  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
kitty - one form of dirt to another?
  • Fallyn said on Sep 18, 2008....
i'm not anal about housecleaning......but sometimes it may seem my house was in the general vicinity of one.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
Fallyn - in the vicinity of an anus or in the vicinity of house?  *giggles*
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 18, 2008....
ROFLMAO ~ Fallyn.... you are way too funy... my house is very very tidy but clean? its all in the eye of the beholder...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
Lucy - so how near sighted would your beholder have to be to believe you're an excellent house keeper?
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 18, 2008....
About a minus 6 on the scale. te he hee actually its cane cutting season here the windows the floors are covered in this fine dust.  I give up trying to dust or vac because no sooner than you have finished it gets coated again.. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
Lucy - works for me too.  As long as they're cutting cane over there I refuse to dust over here too!
  • Lucytorial said on Sep 18, 2008....
Yeh its called the butterfly effect....
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 18, 2008....
Lucy - well, then you should avoid dusting from about March to May because the pollen around here is insane. ;)
  • Fallyn said on Sep 18, 2008....
    an anus.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 19, 2008....
Fallyn - that's what I thought, but I did have to give you a hard time.
